Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

Wow, that sounds like a great value! I really love the family shots in front of the waterfall. The Wilderness Lodge has no shortage of great scenery. The Jai Ho shots of you and Jeff are just awesome!

Seriously, every time I have a bollywood song at zumba I think of that darn photo and crack up. I think for us, it was the best scenery possible, it felt very "us" even though we were in FL whereas the other deluxes, as lovely as they are, would have looked for more "vacationy" than I think these do, just given where we live. I dunno but I'm glad we did it there instead of the YC.

It's my favorite family photo since our wedding to be honest. We have a good nightime TOL from 08 but it's so obviously in the park, it's less of a family photo and more of a memento. This, while not actually all that great of anyone individually, feels really "real" to me and has some personality and so the sum of the parts is pretty darn good! the other bonus for us is that Tay didn't really do traditional senior photos. He did a whole kind of grunge rockstar session in black and white that is beautifully artsy but I'm happy we got some decent shots of just him that are a bit more traditional as well and we wouldn't have that without the shoot.

Your commentary about the pics cracks me up. Reminded me of a hilarious book I got for Christmas called "Awkward Family Photos." Not that any of YOURs would be considered awkward, but its funny how we pick apart our own photos. Next time you are at a bookstore check it out, and be prepared for some belly laughs.:goodvibes

awkwardfamilyphotos.jpg

I'm going to have to look at it. Just seeing Jeff's death grip on Eric when he was on that rock cracks me up as an awkward moment. I'll never forget the last studio shot where they had the kids in the most contorted poses...it was a disaster! Someone had to be under Taylor's leg, etc etc etc. Honestly, it made me never want to a studio shot again!

Love all the pictures! What a nice variety of poses and locations! You have really given me something to think about for the May trip. It has been years since we had family pictures done -- the last ones, I think, were almost ten years ago. Yikes! I tried to book the Roots for this trip, but they are going to be out of town, so I may do the Disney photographers instead. Thanks for all the information on it! :goodvibes

Not to hijack or anything :rolleyes1 but I wonder how the price comparison is between the Roots and buying the private session from Disney. The Roots are simply amazing. I have seen so many of their photos that they are like celebs to me! I want to do my photo shoot and then take them out to dinner just to get to know them better and have them teach me a few camera techniques!

Good question and I have no idea. From what I understand from Trish's report, and their website, they don't typically do non-wedding shoots. I guess I assume they are quite pricey know how wedding sessions run but I really don't know. Their site says for portraits it's between $400-2000......

Loved hearing the recap on your photo session...isn't it nice to actually be IN the photos at least once per trip. That is the real value to me!

You got some great shots...my favourites are the ones on the rocks with the water and lodge behind you. I love the ones of just you and Jeff from that location!

I completely agree with you on the value of the package...it really is a steal. So glad you ended up with a photographer who you liked. You are so right - that can really make or break a session.

seriously, I swear sometimes it's the only way you can prove you were actually there!

those are the 2 family shots I have framed, a color one of the waterfall and a black and white with the lodge behind us. I didn't print up the one of Jeff and I but maybe I will one of these days!

we were so lucky with that. And honestly, so lucky the trip was long enough that I was ok having this "open" day where it could just be about a photo shoot, moving and then whatever we felt like. It was a bit of a blessing to be able to take that day and not feel like I was shortchanging the trip at all. In fact for the most part, it was a nice change/break in the middle of our WDW days.

Sometimes, we, as the Disney fanatics and good DISers that we are, do what could actually be considered TOO much homework and planning. And we get excited about things, about new experiences we want to share. Ok really, some of it is that it’s things we want to share, honestly and truly but there are often (speaking only for myself here) ulterior motives involved. Like getting people excited about the trip. Convincing them that NO they really have not done and seen everything. We had talked a LOT about the Yacht Club with the kids. Talking up SAB, spending hours looking at pictures of SAB and all the wonderful things that the YC had to offer. We hadn’t done the same thing for the WL as that was a surprise to the kids. YC was a totally different animal and people want to get there, and now. And, surprisingly knowing how hungry they were, they’d been quite willing to wait.

However, the photo selection (time taken to do it) had taken its toll on the kids and the combination of hunger and boredom was quickly turning into sullen teens and squirrelly tweens. When the decision had been made to wait, some strategy had to be discussed and decisions made. After all, there were several ways to get to the YC from the WL and we needed to decide what that road looked like.

Beaches and Cream was actually not the target destination. For a couple of reasons. One, it’s not a CS option and our TS credits were spoken for. Plus we still had CS credits on our WL KTTW cards that we needed to use versus dipping into the new ones on our YC room keys. Two, I’d really only chatted up the ice cream option, not so much the food. Why? Well…because as I told then, you could get a B&C burger at Hurricane Hannahs AND go in the pool! Now some of you may be going but….Evan doesn’t actually have a room yet…how can he get into SAB? Honestly, we didn’t know. What we did know is that we had nothing to lose by trying, either way we could all get food there and if needed, some could go to the quiet pool. About this time we got a call from Sandie. They were now (finally) at the aiport. They actually hadn’t done a THING for Paul at the ER. Apparently given what he was already taking for pain management, along with his blood pressure medicine, meant that they couldn’t really do anything other than monitor it for a bit, which they did, and if memory serves send him off with a RX to get filled once whatever he was on, wore off. At this point they’d missed 4 potential flights. There were still 3 more that would get them there at a decent hour so we were hopeful. Sandie however was REALLY stressed (far more than I realized at that moment) about the fact that Evan didn’t have a room. Bearing in mind of course that in reality Evan would sleep in our room and Taylor in theirs, it was all about that elusive room key and SAB. I wasn’t worried at that point. But Sandie was. And, as I later learned, spent QUITE a bit of time on the phone with the YC and our TA trying despereately to convince them to grant us access to their room. Except they needed to BE there to actually add Evan to the key.

Had I known I would have told everyone to not bother calling. I knew this. It was a huge huge wasted effort on both of their parts that I think added to Sandie and Jeff’s stress level, and I’m sure to our TA’s. In some ways it’s probably better that I was unaware but those poor two were beating their heads against a stone wall that wasn’t going anywhere. I digress. Bottom line is, we knew heading over there we were still one key card short.

Now you might think, given the lateness and the hunger level that we’d just take a cab over. It would have been faster. We did have a room after all. But no. We thought it would be almost as fast (and cheaper…3 cabs into the trip we wanted to conserve) and more fun to head to Epcot and walk to the YC from there. That way if people were truly too hungry to wait, we’d just get something at the World Showcase.

So that’s what we did! We hopped on a bus (I really don’t recall having to wait but we were so sweaty and a bit miserable that who knows) and then headed into Epcot. If you thought the photo shoot was hot….the trek through Epcot felt like the longest hottest walk ever. 6 dehydrated campers struggling across the baking hot cement of future world in search of cool waters. And then I spotted it. A never done. With perfect timing.

CLUB COOL!

In a bazillion years I couldn’t have timed that better had I actually made a plan. Escaping into the lovely AC we all bellied up to the bar. And I watched as my family all tried Beverly. And made faces. I admit, I kind of like it. Then again, I like Campari! One of them was especially refreshing to all of us. The Kinley Lemon from Israel We must have guzzled 4 cups each, though others were popular with the crew as well. We then hit the conveniently located facilities right in Club Cool. Very smart, sticking a bathroom there if you ask me. Refreshed and revitalized we did some browsing around the shop and then forged onward.

I have to say, as tortuous as the first part of that walk seemed, I’m glad we did it the way we did. It was pretty darn cool to watch the kids (and Jeff’s) eyes grow huge as we came through the International Gateway, seeing the Boardwalk, the BC and the YC and realizing that yes, THAT is where we are staying and yes, it is THIS close to Epcot! Still. It was hot out. Darn hot. Walking by SAB and seeing Hurricane Hannahs definitely increased the drive to get to the room, get changed and get wet! And eat of course (though at the moment the pool might have been winning). Honestly I think by the time we did all of that it may well have been 2:30 before we got to the room. For some reason it took a bit to get to our room, I got turned around. I don’t recall what happened but something did, either walking there, upon entry, or what but Evan got in trouble. Whatever it was it got him in time out and a pool delay. Which meant I got a pool delay as well. I was NOT happy about that. The rest of the gang changed, lubed up, and headed out. Sure they thought the room was cool but the lure of SAB and cheeseburgers far outweighed anything else. since he couldn't have a time out alone I decided to go ahead and call bell services to see if our stuff had arrived, figuring I might as well be productive. Sure enough, our luggage was in fact there, as was our grocery order (which I did know, from an email from garden grocer), and it would be right up.

Pretty soon there was a “knock knock knock”. Our luggage was there! No groceries through. The Bell Services CM said OOPS! My bad, I’ll be right back.

“knock knock knock!”.

Our groceries! I tipped him, he left. I went to unpack the groceries and…things were missing. Important things. Things like beer and wine.

“ring ring ring”. I called down. OOPS! I forget to check the refrigerator. Let me go look. Here they are, I’ll be right up.

It was almost a comedy of errors, that pool guy made three trips to get us our stuff! And did it all with a smile and a great attitude. Which meant a nice tip. Given that our stuff was there I decided to unpack and make Evan cool his jets. I did give him an apple and some juice since we had goodies and munched one myself to take the edge off. Actually I’m pretty sure I made him do Kumon now that I think about it. Frankly unpacking made me cool my jets and feel settled. For me it worked out well, I could settle us in, I mean stake the spaces I wanted for my stuff, without everyone else in my way. I unpacked myself and the boys. Taylor would go into Sandie and Pauls room, as would Kendall if in fact there was a daybed (though it didn’t sound like there would be). Assuming there wouldn’t, I staged her stuff by her bed and left some drawers and closet for jeff and got all our toiletries out and arranged.

By now it was probably 3:30. Evan and I needed lunch and he’d been sufficiently humbled and deprived. So off we went. Lest you fall over that we ate so late, (what horrible parents!) you have to understand my crew. It is not unusual on the weekends for me not to eat until 1 or later. My kids around noon. So it was late to be sure but not as awful as it sounds. Really. :rotfl: We are 2 meal a day people as a general rule, they are just big meals. I didn't feel bad, they'd been given ample opportunities to make a different choice, though to be fair I paid for it the most. Jeff had texted me to tell me where they were and where some chairs were that they’d saved. Interestingly enough they were at the furthest possible point from the YC that you could be. He says it was all that was available but I don't buy it, I think it was about slide proximity. He had come back up with a key for Evan (Taylor's I think) while I was unpacking to get the refillable mugs for everyone and then had come back with two full mugs of coke so he could make us each a drink. I love that man. I think he’d realized I needed one at that point! By doing that we had two with us to use for that initial entry, and since the others had wristbands already, they were set. We got our wristbands on and then walked back out, to Hurricane Hannahs. We both got a burger and a ticket to go back and claim our gelato later and then wandered back in, with our food. Technically I don’t think you are supposed to eat there but no one stopped us. Evan inhaled his burger, skipped the fries and took off for the slide. I ate about half of both my fries and burger and then really wanted to get wet. We were parked at the base of the slide, big kids and Jeff doing the slide and Eric off in the “swirly” section of the pool.

The view from my lounge chair

IMAG0072.jpg

A never done, done, for Evan. First slide down the SAB slide. AWESOME and FAST was his verdict. And no, I didn't go down it.

IMAG0074.jpg

I confess. I had built up the HH/B&C burger to be such an amazing thing in my mind that it was probably doomed to failure. Maybe because it was from HH and not B&C, maybe because it was 4:00 and I was hours late, heck almost a day late in eating, who knows. Either way it was just, at best, ok. However food is food and I couldn’t bear to throw it away so I set it aside and headed to go swirl with Eric.

A boy and his bucket. Gotta love that aspect of the kids meal!

IMAG0073.jpg

I am guessing that what he called the “swirlies” is really what they call sinking sands.

Probably one of the best pools in Walt Disney World, StormAlong Bay is over 3 acres large. There are actually several sections to the pool which sits in the middle of Disney’s Beach Club and Disney’s yacht Club Resorts. Each section by each resort are separate and different so be sure to try both. There is a deep circular area with jets that push you like a river current around the pool. There is also the larger area where the the water slide empties out (The water slide is not to be missed! but sometimes the line gets long) In addition, the *sinking sand* area delights both kids and adults. There are several 'hot tubs' located in secluded locations around Stormalong Bay . A separate wading pool area with sand is located near the ShipWreck water slide entrance for small children and includes a kids water slide.
It is delightful! I mean really really delightful!

The water felt SO good. It was hot out! Granted, I wouldn’t call the water cold but it was refreshingly wet. Slightly cooler would have been nice but it still felt great.

You can see the haze!

IMG_5722.jpg

Not sure what this picture is supposed to be of

IMG_5723.jpg

All of these photos were taken around 4:30. I was finally getting wet and relaxed at 4:30. OH it felt good! And as a result…not much in the way of pictures. While Eric and I were "swirling" I noticed a crowd around my lounge chair. A crowd with cameras. What the....????

I made my way closer to see what was going on.

A squirell was making off with my cheeseburger.

And apparently that was a noteworthy, photo opportunity for someone else. So if you see a picture of a squirrel eating a cheeseburger and fries on someone elses TR, just know that I am the idiot that left it out. You might even see my tell tale Tink tote bag under the chair. Jeff refreshed our drinks at some point and Kendall and I jumped in on a water volleyball game around 5 while Jeff went in search of a Sandie and Paul update. Which made me realize something.

I really needed a new suit. Mine was not geared towards jumping up and down! :rotfl: Not that anything happened mind you but there was a quick adjustment and tightening of all related strings and straps.

Volleyball was a blast. We sucked but we had a ton of fun and some quality girl time.

We had dinner reservations at Tutto for 7:25. Or so I thought. Given that we were working with only one bathroom and I’d gotten to the pool last, we decided to do shifts. First, Jeff updated me on the Sandie and Paul situation they had gotten on a plane! (the good news!) but they wouldn’t LAND until 11:25 (the bad news!). Which meant it would be a LATE night for all of us. Ugh. But all that really mattered was they were on a plane. We discussed a quick complete change of touring plan for the following day given their arrival time, and then Jeff, Kendall and Taylor headed up. About 45 minutes later I made the boys take a shower at the pool (everyone had fully showered before pictures) and then we headed up so I could hop in for a “real” shower.

I never did get that gelato. :( Of course I didn't realize that until I was in the shower.

By 7:15 we were dressed and ready to go.

Up next
Would Tutto live up to my expectations? What would the kids think? Would we get a hard time since we only had 6 instead of 8? And…what time would Sandie and Paul really get to the hotel? Plus…an unexpected treat.

Well, it sounds like a fairly typical day when you travel with a large group. Something unexpected always happens, so its great you guys went with the flow.

So, the burger was NOT good??? What? I was salivating as you were talking about burgers and SAB. I was thinking, great idea for May. Then you let some squirrel run off with it. What the.......?

Loved your lounge chair pictures. Nothing like the true perspective. Those pictures are dangerous though, because I think I am the only one who hasn't been to SAB in our adventurous little group and Me thinks I need some extra time there!!!! :rotfl:

Oh yeah - I almost forgot - I hope Sandy and Paul really due get to MCO by 1130!

I :lovestruc the burgers at HH and BnC so surely you just had an off afternoon. Even the squirrel agrees with me. ;)

Think you're going to have to try the slide in May. I haven't tried it either. It'll be an adventure.

Crossing my fingers that you loved Tutto!! I already know what I'm ordering there in May...:rolleyes1

Hmmmmm.. I agree, ours were great this summer, so someone either grilled them to death, or something went awry...
I am not a slide person, either.

I hope you enjoy Tutto's and I am glad you finally got to put your feet up!

Oh you are all going down that slide in May....and I will be there with my waterproof camera to document it!!! :thumbsup2
Volleyball sounds like fun....I always enjoy the games at the pool....especially trivia :goodvibes
I still haven't been to Tutto since it was changed from Alfredo's :sad2: I know, I know...but I really loved Alfredo's  I have an idea of what I want to eat all being delivered by a cute waiter ;)
Hope you don't have too long of a wait at night for the rest of your group. I really can't imagine trying to corral that many people. I would have an i.v. of ritas draining into my veins

well really, what else can you do? Very typical.

I didn't intend to let him run off with it, I just wanted to go swirl with Eric. That said I was mindful of the hour and our impending dinner at Tutto so stopped the minute I felt full. It wasn't bad..it just wasn't earth shattering. I had built it up to be earth shattering.

Extra time for all I say! I certainly felt short changed (and I'm sure Evan did too), we all could have stayed there for another few hours.

I :lovestruc the burgers at HH and BnC so surely you just had an off afternoon. Even the squirrel agrees with me. ;)

Very well could be, I'm willing to try it again!

Think you're going to have to try the slide in May. I haven't tried it either. It'll be an adventure.

Now now, I didn't say I didn't go on the slide at all on the trip. I just didn't go on it that day!

Crossing my fingers that you loved Tutto!! I already know what I'm ordering there in May...:rolleyes1

What are you ordering?

Hmmmmm.. I agree, ours were great this summer, so someone either grilled them to death, or something went awry...
I am not a slide person, either.

I wasn't feeling slidey at that moment, it had been a bit of a long day. Which is not to say I didn't get my slide on later. Grilled to death was about how it tasted. Could have just been a rotten time of day to get one. Not lunch but not quite dinner either. Also simply could have been I waited so darn long to eat that nothing tasted quite right. I'd give it another chance to be sure.

I hope you enjoy Tutto's and I am glad you finally got to put your feet up!

Me too! And I was able to enjoy it so much more knowing we were unpacked so it was all worth it

Oh you are all going down that slide in May....and I will be there with my waterproof camera to document it!!! :thumbsup2

I'll go down but....pictures? :scared1:

There is a trick to that slide and I'll leave it at that. For now.

Volleyball sounds like fun....I always enjoy the games at the pool....especially trivia :goodvibes

It was so much fun!!! I'd do it again in May

Tracy

VERY cute waiters. I gave up corralling a long time ago, it's greatly increased my sanity. :rotfl:

No slide for you Cynthia??!!! And you too Christine!!! Geez...I wish I knew that when we were laying poolside last October. This has to be remedied. Tracy..we are counting on you!

Glad all the stresses of the day with being one key short, and fretting over the travel arrangements of your late arrivals were all but forgotten when you touched those swirling sands.;)

Too funny about your hot walk over from Epcot. I was having nightmares and flashbacks all the same time. Just be glad you were doing it with tweens and teens as opposed to a 4 and 7 year old:rotfl:

Can't wait to hear about Tutto. :goodvibes

First, someone mentioned the Akward Family Photos book, checkout this website! There are some hysterical pictures!

Sounds like you had an interesting day!! Not unlike several of our days in December! It must have felt great to finally get in the pool!

I agree you we all have to try the slide at least once in May! I admit, I'm not the pool slide kinda girl but I think we have to experience it at least once!!!

I hope your evening went well! Can't wait for more!!!

Goodness, I could feel the heat coming off the pavement on that Future World trek! Maybe, because I have experienced it too many times! :lmao: Club Cool is truly an Oasis out there! Great idea to stop!

At least Evan's timeout had a silver lining in that you were able to unpack and organize. I always feel better once that is done.

SAB sounds like so much fun!!! What a great way to spend the rest of the afternoon! Too funny about the squirrel making off with your cheeseburger. Cheeky devil! :rotfl:

Loved your update!

I almost always come back to the BC through EPCOT when we are leaving MK, so I can understand your choice! We usually take the monorail because we love riding it, but you didn't have that option, plus it takes more time than the bus.

What a great time to experience Club Cool!

:worship: on being able to wait so long for lunch. I get, let's say, a wee bit grumpy when I haven't eaten. In fact, the words that strike the most fear in my DH are: "I'm getting hungry"

Glad to hear you all got a much needed dip in SAB and enjoyed so much of what it had to offer.

I have never been to Tutto, so I look forward to hearing about it. I imagine you would have another chance to make up for the missing gelato for dessert.

You are such a great mom for keeping your COOL through all of that. I'm sure I would have more than one meltdown by that point. SAB looks amazing... still not sure I can get past the New England theming, which being from New England, I find a little...well, familiar, let's say. :lmao: Although, it does look gorgeous. And the proximity to EPCOT can't be equaled, I'm guessing, particularly if you're like me and that's your favorite park.

And I really hope you all liked Tutto. We went there for lunch last year and it was really good. I'm not going to say it was the best food I've ever eaten, as I'm Italian and from the Northeast where Italians are not exactly in short supply (although many of us are pretty short....:lmao:), but our meals were very fresh and delicious. It was among the top three meals of our trip last year.

I would love to be at Stormalong Bay right now! :lmao: I think it has something to do with the snow Mother Nature has been dumping all over New England that's tickling my pool fancy.

Looks like a great time, and I'm hoping everything at Tutto works out!

Oh, I love the look of SAB! I will make sure that I will stay at the BCV at least once to be able to go to this pool!

Which reminds me that I did not want to post about the DVC changes on Jen's and LL's thread (did not want to take it too off topic), but happily will reply to you on your own thread on this:

I saw it, I had read about the rumors just after I put my offer in and then was very afraid of what it might be and that I might close after they announced a change, some of those rumors hinted towards early December. And it wasn't certain that contracts bought previous would be grandfathered... I was therefore very relieved when my resale closed in late November! :thumbsup2

I am very happy that finally we know what is going to happen! I am also slightly happy to know that I will not be affected by this change even though it would most likely not make me rethink my decision. Once I saw how many points you need to stay at the non-DVC Disney hotels, I really could not see myself going for this. I understand that there are some circumstances where it might make sense (points in holding accounts etc.). And of course having to fly across the Atlantic to use my points, there might be times when it will be difficult for me to actually use them. But my plan is to rather rent them out if this is the case and use the money for another vacation. I even have some friends here in Germany who might be interested in renting my points if I can't use them. Of course, I am lucky and nothing has changed for me since I will be grandfathered in. I am not too concerned about resale value, I rather see this as a nice bonus that I could even get some money back in case I need or want to sell. The only thing I would be concerned if I would not be able to sell my points at all in a case when I could not afford to pay the annual dues and thus really had to sell. I don't see that happening in the near future, though...

Ok, now I have rambled on for quite a bit, but you asked about it!! :lmao:

Wow what a stressful way to start the transfer of resorts, hopefully swimming in SAB made up for it...it looks gorgeous!

Can't wait to hear what you guys thought of tuttua italia:goodvibes

No slide for you Cynthia??!!! And you too Christine!!! Geez...I wish I knew that when we were laying poolside last October. This has to be remedied. Tracy..we are counting on you!

No slide for me that day :rotfl:.... we were there for 5 nights, lots of time still...you'll have to wait and see!

Glad all the stresses of the day with being one key short, and fretting over the travel arrangements of your late arrivals were all but forgotten when you touched those swirling sands.;)

They really were!

Too funny about your hot walk over from Epcot. I was having nightmares and flashbacks all the same time. Just be glad you were doing it with tweens and teens as opposed to a 4 and 7 year old:rotfl:

I thought of you while we were doing it :rotfl:

Goodness, I could feel the heat coming off the pavement on that Future World trek! Maybe, because I have experienced it too many times! :lmao: Club Cool is truly an Oasis out there! Great idea to stop!

It sang out to me as we walked by, Oasis is exactly the right word!

At least Evan's timeout had a silver lining in that you were able to unpack and organize. I always feel better once that is done.

Me too. As with the WL a bit of a bummer as I lost pool time (that could have been since it wasn't raining) but it is just so nice to unpack with everyone out of the room and really feel settled! I am looking forward (HUGELY) to may pool time without the demands of anyone else cutting into it. :rotfl: that was probably the best part of our Palm Springs trip, we just hung by the pool...because we could! With kids, actually relaxing by the pool, seems to be a bit impossible. relaxing that is with a book and a drink. Swirling Sands and Volleyball is equally relaxing...just in a different way!

SAB sounds like so much fun!!! What a great way to spend the rest of the afternoon! Too funny about the squirrel making off with your cheeseburger. Cheeky devil! :rotfl:

It is the BEST pool, absolutely love it! I can't wait to be there again!!!!!!!

Loved your update!

I almost always come back to the BC through EPCOT when we are leaving MK, so I can understand your choice! We usually take the monorail because we love riding it, but you didn't have that option, plus it takes more time than the bus.

I am glad we made the choice and would do that route again. Fun idea on a way to come back from MK, I'll have to remember that.

Club Cool couldn't have appeared at a better time and it was even more fun as no one really knew it existed and I'd never been there so it was just all around a fun, fresh and refreshing thing to do at a very needed cooling down moment!

I think we all get grumpy. Honestly I probably should have had Jeff bring up my lunch, and eat it while unpacking if I'd have thought about it but I was kind of on a mission to get down there. I didn't eat till 1 yesterday. :rotfl:
