Dr. Google Question

Edit: Someone PM'd the specific info I needed. All good now!! Have a good weekend

I hate to ask a Dr. Google type question, but I think it's relatively simple and Google evades me.

If an imaging report says a finding is 2.0 cm × 1.7, does that mean it is essentially a 2 cm mass, a 3.4 cm, or some other formula?

The answer makes a big difference. Yes, I know my doctor will let me know, but I hate waiting all weekend to know which is the actual size.

Thanks 🥰

None of that makes any sense. I'd ask to clarify. A mass is not going to be perfectly rectangular, but I suppose they can approximate how it might fit into a rectangle. It should also be 3 dimensional, although I supposed you wouldn't know from a traditional X-ray.

It's not an xray - CT with contrast. Some findings dimensional, some are specifically a size. Different organs. I understand that it is length and heigth (or some version), I'm trying to figure out what is considered the 1 number size (i.e., length x width, the greatest dimension, another formula).

I was hoping someone who actually works in radiology or imaging results might know, but I discuss the various findings with different specialists in the next few weeks. Sorry, but not needing speculation because I have enough of that in my own brain.😂

I found a few things of Google if you are just looking for size it states 2cm is about the size of a grape
If you are looking for other details I found several but it all depends on where it was and what color it shows up on MRI - white versus black etc
I also found some listings based on size for some other areas I am not going to discuss because I have faith this is not your problem ❤️🙏
BTW I am a Google expert - I know enough to be dangerous !! 🤣❤️
If you’re interested in reading anything I found hit me up - I won’t give it to you because im not feeding your anxiety because I care !!! ❤️❤️

2.0 cm in one dimension (length) by 1.7 cm in the other dimension (width). Some radiologists would provide a 3rd measurement (the 'height' of the lesion), but sometimes that is not provided. The basic 2 dimensions are usually the most reproducible on CT.

When I read my sonogram results I took it to mean that is the size 2cm x 1.7cm.

This. My sonogram listed out the measurements. True, it's not rectangular but you can measure an approximate width and length.

CT?

Without other information I'm going to read this as a "mass" with a diameter of 2 cm at its widest part on the horizontal plane, and a maximum height of 1.7 cm on the perpendicular plane.

Not a radiologist though, sorry.
