I'm not a die-hard fan but I do try to watch when there is a new episode, but apparently I missed one. How the heck with Dr. Lui and her husband end up with a teenage daughter?

That is his daughter from a previous marriage. I believe she lived in NY with her Mom and just moved to CA to live with them.

Strangely enough I think the teenage daughter looks like the step-mom (Dr Li) - her mother must be Asain as well - that girl looks nothing like her dad!
