I have a table for 4 at a restaurant even though there are only 2 on my DDP.
If another 2 diners also join us on our ressies and have their own DDP can their credits be taken from their DDP and our credits be taken from ours? Or will the restaurant want to take them from just one diner? Does that question make any sense?

You server can divide your table into as many parties as you want, each party paying their own check with their own DDP or OOP using whatever method they want. Each diner is listed with exactly with what they ordered seperately, regardless of how you divide the check. So they always have the information to divide into any group of diners. I have done this many times.

To make checkout easier, let your server know ahead of time how you want the check split. When your meal is over then s/he will be able to bring correct reciept right away rather than have to reenter them.

The question makes perfect sense, and you should ask for two checks to avoid confusion at the end of the meal.

The server can't put all four meals on your DDP. Your room key will specify how many people are on DDP -- for example, 2A. The server is not supposed to be able to charge any more meals than the number shown on your room key. So they'll charge you for your meal, your friends for their meal, and both of you will get additional bills for the tip and any non-DDP items you may have ordered.

The only time additional people joining you would have any impact would be if the additions put you at six or more in your party. If that happened, all checks in the party would be subject to the 18% automatic gratuity. Absent that situation, the amount you tip is up to you.
