There have been no reports as far as I remember that anyone has been able to switch a dessert for an appetizer on the basic plan. The reports we are getting is that such a substitution is never permitted.
this is the ONLY post I have seen this year that confirms a guest was able to substitute an appetizer for a dessert on the basic plan in 2008. This poster traveled in January so it's possible they were operating on the 2007 plan (the 2007 plan was honored for anyone who checked in prior to January 1).
My best advice is that you should ask at the restaurant and prepare to be turned down. If you purchase the basic dining plan anticipating that you will be able to switch the dessert allowance for an appetizer at will, please be advised that most reports have been negative.
we're planning to just pay OOP for any appetizer we really want (and that's about half the restaurants we're planning on dining at) - but we don't want to give up the dessert, either!
This is not allowed where I work at WCC. The computer system is set up to know what is an appetizer, what is an entree and what is a dessert. When you swipe the card at the end of the meal, the computer automatically "rejects" anything known as an appetizer (same with alcohol) and leaves the charge on the bill instead of zeroing it out for the plan.
Well, since it would be reasonable that ALL the restaurant computers property-wide are programmed the same way - thank you VERY much for the definitive response!!!!!
