Hi neighbors to the north :wave2:. We're planning a long weekend in Toronto in August with a 13 month old baby. I was originally thinking of staying at the Delta Chelsea, but now we're considering other options. The idea of tip-toeing around after the baby goes to sleep doesn't seem very pleasant :headache:. Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel suite anywhere downtown? My research is showing either rundown suites or suites way out of our price range. Or even your best tips for making the most out of staying in a one room hotel room with an infant? Help! Thanks!

Have you tried the Cambridge Suites? It is only *slightly* further away from a TTC stop than some more expensive hotels. We have stayed there with our daughter and found it clean and good for families. Well priced too. It has a bedroom that is separated from the sitting area with french doors, which worked for us. We were able to put our DD to bed early and still relax and watch TV in the living room.

Is your baby a particularly light sleeper? I remember my daughter at that age, once she was down, she was OUT and slept through quite a bit, especially that first stretch of sleep.

It's probably too expensive in the summer, but you might check out the Residence Inn downtown to see if they have any deals. The hotel is great, the location is good, and we saved a lot of money by having a full kitchen and being able to cook some of our meals in the hotel.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I will check those out. The baby is a heavy sleeper at times and not at all other times. It would be our luck that this would be one of those other times

Another vote here for the Residence Inn Downtown. It's awesome. :thumbsup2

Clean, bright, SPACIOUS rooms, lovely furniture, great hot and cold breakfast buffet, indoor pool, hot tub, business centre, fitness room, and even a complimentary evening social/manager's reception on certain nights of the week...usually Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays I think (enough food that you can easily have dinner at the hotel that evening). Staff are very, very friendly. Some rooms have a view of the CN Tower. Full kitchens in every room (full fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave). You can get a studio suite (which is like one very large room), or there are also one and two bedroom suites (if you want to be able to have a totally separate sleeping area with a door).

Location is fabulous. Walk to the CN Tower, the Rogers Centre, The Hockey Hall of Fame, Union Station, The Air Canada Centre, Roy Thomson Hall, and more. We even walked to the Eaton Centre (and that was in January, when it was FREEZING...so a walk there in the summer would be a piece of cake). The hotel offers many packages that include tickets to certain attractions plus valet parking...worth checking into.

The Delta Chelsea has some sections that have not yet been renovated.....my brother in law stays there regularly with his family, and would not book anything less than business class. Apparently they have received some rooms in the past that are questionable, andthey needed to upgrade on check-in in order to guarantee the better accomodations that you'd normally expect from a Delta property.

The Residence Inn Downtown is the top rated hotel in Toronto according to TripAdvisor. We had an amazing stay there earlier this year, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. You can also get 50% off a second night's stay by purchasing Lays Chips......check out www.chiptrips.ca for the details. You need 50 points in order to get the 2nd night discount, which is equivalent to 5 large bags of chips (or 2.5 large bags if you get the ones specially marked with double points). Would save you about $100 Cdn. And you would have some comfort food to boot  .

I loove Residence Inns. The one downtown can be expensive though. My favorite one is the Toronto Airport Residence Inn. We stayed there for 6 weeks this spring while my house was being renovated.

Another vote for the Residence Inn Downtown / Entertainment District if you want to be right downtown. There are a few other Residence Inns around if you will have a car and don't mind be on the outskirts (the one in Vaughan is near Canada's Wonderland and the huge Vaughan Mills Mall, the one in Mississauga Meadowvale is in a corporate park but not too far from shopping etc. if you wil have a car.)

Another option for right downtown would be to check out the Courtyard by Marriott on Yonge St. Not sure if they have suites or not, but the rooms are nice and the prices reasonable (at least they were the last time I stayed there).
