Hi everyone. Off to the land of the Mouse in two weeks and DW and i fancy a day in Downtown Orlando,Has anybody been there and could tell me what its like,is there much to see and do there etc. Big question is it safe to go there???

Never been to downtown Orlando so not sure what's there - probably just normal city centre stuff.

There was an area around Church Street Station that once was a good place for evening entertainment but It went downhill a little when Disney opened Pleasure Island and Downtown Disney. I think it's a bit better now though.

Found this website:

Downtown Orlando is just your regular city centre with alot of business workers, not alot to see so I would say better places to spend your time such as Celebration etc.

Claire ;)

Thanks for the info.By the way forgive me for being dumb but what or where is Celebration??
2 weeks tomorrow:yay:

Celebration in just south of the 192 which runs along the bottom of Disney. Celebration was the 'model' town created by Disney and it is a lovely place to visit and shop or eat in or just to enjoy the surroundings.

Oh you must visit Celebration.

Park up near the lake and take a walk around. This place is beyond perfect.

If you have time there is a local cafe called "sherlocks" it is owed by an english couple and the home made scones are to die for :lovestruc, my family and I had a great time talking to them during our visit.

Take the time also to have a drive around, the properties there are beautiful.

My only experience with Downtown Orlando was a few years ago we visited Church St Station, leaving late at night to get the coach back to hotel there were a lot of groups hanging around, one lad came over and asked if we wanted any drugs. Not been back since.

Sherlocks is no longer there.

I have been to Downtown orlando a few times during my past few visits but have gone with a friend who works down there in a club. There doesn't seem much to do there unless you are planning on going in the evening for a night out, which is great. There are loads of bars and clubs and places to eay but other than that there isn't much to do really. I have never seen any trouble there but it is advisable to stay in the busy streets rather than wander off around near the railway line, where some of the more unsavoury people hang out.

I agree. Downtown Orlando is only worth the visit if you want a night out on the town. With no pleasure island anymore it's where the clubbing experience is at. The stories you hear about Downtown you would think it is some kind of ghetto... it's really not though. I think it looks rather nice. Just like any city really... just don't wander off down deserted side tracks... you'd be fine!

I would echo many of sentiments that others have expressed about Downtown Orlando, it's a nice enough city centre but that is about all you could say. The only thing that does commend it, if you are in the area and interested in that kind of thing (which my wife and I were) is the Orlando history museum, which I rather enjoyed.

Would agree that Celebration would probably be a better bet. We've been to downtown Orlando but only to see Orlando Magic play.

Not sure if it's common knowledge, but there are three interconnected lakes that you can walk round. The last one (furthest from the town centre) has the most beautiful houses around it.

Lots of wildlife to see too. It was a very tranquil experience for us walking round there at Easter, when everywhere else was packed with people. Only the odd jogger or cyclist saying a cheery 'hi' as they passed.

Great ice-creams and shakes at Kilwin's (next to the cinema, overlooking the lake in the town centre) once you've done the walk!

Nice little shops to browse in too.
