Downtown Disney???

I am rather confused We have never been to Walt Disney World and decided to take a little detour on our way home from our upcoming Disney Cruise. Anyway...after doing some meandering around the web I came across Downtown Disney. Can anyone tell me where that is? Is it a place of it's own that you have to have tickets to get too? We are staying at the Pop Century Resort, can we drive to Downtown Disney and shop and eat?

you dont require tickets to get in (although you do need tickets to get into the nightclub bit called pleasure island). if you imagine disney world to be a map where magic kingdom is north, epcot is south and animal kingdom is west, downtown disney is east. know this is a bit vague, but its the only way i can describe it!! its on the side of a lake
there's shops, restaurants, cinemas and loads more to do. theres planet hollywood, rainforest cafe, wolfgang pucks, earl of sandwich and loads more restaurants.
its also got the world's largest disney store, aptly named the world of disney.
its worth going to if you're in the area.

Downtown is a shopping and eating outside Mall per say. You can drive, and park in it from POP. It is a whole night in itself. No tickets are required. Next door is Pleasure Island which is all nightclubs. If you want to enter any of the nightclubs you must purchase a ticket (18.00 yesterday) and that gets you into 7 different clubs. Or you can just walk thru it and get a drink at one of the many outside bars. That is free, no tickets required. Next to that is Westside with more restaurants and more stores. It's hugh and will keep you occupied for an entire evening. Try it, you'll like it!

Do you know about how far it is from POP? We will be arriving at the Resort approx noon, could we plan on spending most of the afternoon and then have dinner there? I have will have three 15 yrd old with me and one 10 plus other adults, it sounds like this is a place for everyone. We just doing Magic Kingdom on Friday and coming home Sat, so I want to make the most and go to the great places. Any other sugguestions would be greatly appreciated!

I believe it is about 15 minutes by car from your resort. Are you arriving on Thursday around noon? You will need all day on Friday to do MK. It will be a great place to go for your entire party. There is something for everyone. If you want to spend a little money in the Westside is something called DisneyQuest which I think the kids would love. It is 5 floors of games and rides. I believe it is around 35.00 per, but I'm not sure about that.

Downtown Disney has something for everyone.I love the huge World of Disney store,and we always take in a movie at the AMC 24 theatre complex....And,of course,there's the Virgin Megastore,and all the delicious restaurants-Planet Hollywood,Wolfgang Pucks,and many more.....
You will love Downtown Disney,and you can either take your car from your resort,or hop on the Downtown Disney shuttle!

Your teens would love Disney Quest. You can get tickets from online brokers for for Disney Quest for around $25. Look on allearsnet.com and check out the "beyond the theme parks" section. It has great descriptions of DTD.

You could drop the kids at DQ and shop til your hearts content, then pick them up and have a great meal at any one of the many restaurants at DTD.

Pleasure Island is great but I'm not one to advocate taking kids there. I've seen families together there, but to us it's just not a place for kids. It's more of an adult evening in our opinion.

If you do decide to go to Pleasure Island, do not miss the Comedy Club and the Adventurers Club.
