We'll be going there for the first time this trip (during the day, shopping). We'll be staying at a resort, but have a car available- is it better to drive and park, or take the bus?

And- are any of the stores "don't miss"? We have 2 DD's 2 and 5. (We're actually planning to SKIP Bibbidy Bobbity Boutique since the 2 1/2 year old would be jealous that her sister got a makeover and not her :) ).

Personally, I never miss a trip to Once Upon a Toy - the Potato Head station is too much fun! And, I'm sure that I don't even have to mention the enormous World of Disney- keep an eye out for the giant spitting Stitch. Also, it's always fun to top off a day of shopping with a sundae or ice cream float from the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain. :thumbsup2

Have a great time!

I don't know about the transportation, but as far as stores, you should try the lego store, once upon a toy, the days of christmas store and world of disney (the largest disney store on property with merchandise from all disney shops and stores at disney world). These are all located at downtown disney marketplace. There are a few good shops on at Downtown disney westside too.

I don't know about the Disney transportation (where they let you off, how often they run, etc.), but I do know that the parking can be challenging at Downtown Disney. We did okay last November, but we got lucky and got a good spot.

Also, if you have a lot of bags an occasional trip back to the car to drop them off can be helpful.

Can you get your packages delivered to the hotel from Downtown Disney?

I think taking the boat from POFQ/POR would be a fun transportation choice, but not the fastest.

If you're staying on property at a Disney resort then transportation is great. You usually make a stop at Typhoon Lagoon then Downtown Disney then PI. The Typhoon Lagoon stop is right at the front of the water park. The DTD stop is right where the Christmas shop is and the PI stop is in front of Planet Hollywood's area. When we stayed at POP it was about a 20 minute ride since you made other stops but the buses start when Typhoon Lagoon opens and run through the day and into the night b/c of PI. Not sure about packages to the room but I think you can do that. We always prefer to carry them back ourselves since the buses usually aren't crowded.

If you're staying at a DTD hotel then the buses don't start till 6pm and they drop off around PI I think. We prefer to drive if we're staying at a DTD hotel.

I'd say drive...that way you don't have to worry about trying to get all your stuff back on a crowded bus.

I also prefer to drive to DTD so that I can put my packages in the trunk.

Parking on the Marketplace side is pretty confusing, but parking at the West Side is much more normal. If you plan on walking through both the Marketplace side and the West Side, I advise parking on the West Side to make it easier to find a spot and easier to find your car again when you leave.

My personal faves include the Lego store and the Christmas shop (where you can get your Guest of Honor badges engraved with the kids' names).

On the West Side I love to visit the Virgin Records Megastore. It's a lot like a really large Borders Books and Music.

I also like to catch a movie at the Pleasure Island AMC Theater once in a while, but that's just me.

Deciding whether to take the bus or car is really about personal preference.

Probably a car would get you to the parking lot faster, but then you have to find a spot, and WALK back to your car when you leave. If you go all over DTD that can be a considerable distance from where you end up, as DTD is quite sprawling.

If you take the bus, sure you have to wait for the bus, but it drops you off in a central location, and you can pick it up there too. Actually there are two stops - one in the middle of DTD, and one at the far end of the Marketplace. If you can get dropped off at the Marketplace end and start your visit there, that's probably better. They only use that drop during certain hours though.

The other pluses of the bus are that you don't have to designate a driver - if someone wants alcohol, and you don't have to navigate around WDW. EVeryone gets to simply ride.

The distance from your resort to DTD will vary considerably depending in which resort you are staying at, and what time of day you go. This will also affect how many stops your bus will make. If you have to loop around CBR it might be faster to drive. If you are coming directly from PORFQ - you will take a ratehr pleasant short boat ride to DTD.

The Boutique is located at the back of the WoD store. It would be a shame to miss the entire store just to avoid the Boutique area. It is pretty easy to walk right past it anyhow. Also, if you intend to get you younger daughter anything princess, that store is any young girl's paradise! They have tons of costumes, hats, stuffed animals, hair ribbons, toys, etc. the store has a number of other sections too. It's also a great place to find stuff for folks back home, and the far side has a great pirate theme for the boys.

Our favorite dining at DTD is Wolfgang Puck's Express. You can sit outside and the food is great. We've loved everythign we've had there, especially for the price.

We were quite disappointed with the Wolfgang Puck Cafe though. So not worht the extra money.

HoB was good, but has strictly Southern food. Good, but a little limited.

We looked at Raglan Road, but the overpowering smell of grease deterred us. Not that I dislike fish and chips.

Bongos was neat. The decor, including the bathrooms, is very nice. The food is Cuban, so it's exotic and might not be to everyone's liking.

If you've never been to a Rainforest Cafe, it's fun to check ti out. the food's not the best, but the theming is really fun. Even if you just wander through the giftshop.

You can also take a boat shuttle to either Saratoga Springs or POR. You could even eat there. If you just want a break from the noise or a way to settle down the little one, this might be just the thing. Also, the resorts are usually pretty quiet mid-day.

As for stores, in addition to the ones people mentioned already...there's a Disney pet store that's really cute if you have pets. At the back of the Chritmas store they will personalize lots of stuff. They have laser embroidery and engraving, and I they do other stuff in the store sometimes - like painting ornaments.

There's also a store that only has stuff under ten dollars. It's basically stuff you can find elsewhere, and some seasonal clearance items, but it can be a fun little place to let the kids loose.

My family & I always take our car to Downtown Disney, because the Disney Transport Buses from the Contemporary suck. We have found they always take at least 45 minutes or more, going & comming back. However we always manage to park in the Marketplace parking lot. Somtimes we have got lucky & found a spot right away, other times we had to drive around but we always ended up with a spot there.

Might I suggestt taking your daughter to the Boutique, despite any jealousies that her little sister might have?

There will be plenty of things that the younger one will have a chance to continue to experience long after the older has to stop (trick or treating, visiting Santa etc.) Shouldn't there be some perks to being the oldest as well? Trust me, in the end it all balances out.

I don't think it is really fair for your older daughter to miss out just because her sister would be jealous. I have three sisters (one being older) and we never missed out on things because the others would be jealous. You just have to find something special for the younger daughter to make her feel special also if it appears that it is going to bother her to be left out of the makeover. There are so many stores in Downtown Disney that I'm sure you will be able to find something for you younger daughter. The World of Disney store is awesome and the Lego store is a don't miss also.
As to the driving or taking the bus, is you don't mind the hassle of trying to find a parking space and looking for you car to put you bags in, it might be easier for you to take your car so you don't have to carry your bags around.
Have a wonderful time. :goodvibes

We always stay in the DTD area hotels (my husband has conferences at one of these hotels during our visit), so we just walk over. We prefer to ditch a car and just ride around on Disney transportation during our visit!

My kids LOVE the magic store in DTD. There is always someone in there doing tricks. Otherwise, we are in and out of every store and enjoy them all......but you definitely don't want to miss the Lego store or any of the toy stores if you have little ones tagging along.

My kids beg to eat at Planet Hollywood every year. It's not necessarily my favorite, but something about the place is very appealing to the kids.

I am undecided on the boutique. I'd be paying for 3 makeovers, and I'm afraid to price it out! However, my son gets his hair cut and spiked every year at the MK barbershop, so I'm thinking it's only fair the girls get something done, too.
