Downtown Disney vs. the Boardwalk

JR's is lots of fun, the only thing I don't like about it is the fact you have to pay pay pay pay. In other words, you pay a cover, pay for your overpriced drinks of course and then pay to get your song heard. Be careful or you will spend a small fortune quickly!
Actually I find Jellyrolls drink prices to be the same (some cheaper) than other drinking establishments on property.
They do/did offer a $9 huge drink but that wasn't always what I wanted and beer was $5 a pop.
Each week they have a big red cup drink (32 oz.?) special on the board that I find is a good deal.
its a lot of fun for sure just be prepared to bring your wallet and leave it there :lmao:
You can put up songs for as little as $1 or as much as $20 (or more like a friend did - really wanted to hear that song!!). Obviously the more you spend, the faster it's played. I'll do anywhere from $2 to $10 for a song, depending on how much I want the song played.

So for an evening out at a fun bar, I find it worth every penny!!! :cool1:

You can follow the progress of rumors about clubs on PI reopening on my Blog located at: www.savepleasureisland.blogspot.com

There is a lot of mention about Jellyrolls in this thread but no mention of Atlantic Dance Hall which is right next to JR's. Admission is free and you can dance all you want and the DJ will play your requests if he/she has it.

Pleasure Island is not a place to plan on partying. Paradiso 37 is mainly a restaurant although there is a tequila bar in there too. Raglan Road too is mainly a restaurant and you'll find it clears out after 10pm. That leave House of Blues but HOB is a club that depends on whether anyone is performing as to whether it stays open late. If no one is performing then the dance club part is closed. Check: www.houseofblues.com/orlando Service Industry Night every Sunday night is packed to the rafters though.

Do plan to visit CityWalk if you can because it's as close to the PI experience as you can get. You can get a pass into all the clubs for $11.99 which is about half of what PI used to charge. Stick with Th-F-Sa nights as the rest of the week is dead.

Bob, thanks so much for the added info about Atlantic Dance, if we go to Jellyrolls maybe we'll stop over and check them out.

Also, thanks for the added links about Pleasure Island & HOB!!! I love HOB!!

I had no idea it was cheaper to get into all the clubs at CityWalk, good to know! I talked to DH about it and he sounds interested in going, however I have this thing about leaving Disney property (I know, I'm weird), and losing some Disney magic. We'll have to see how it plays out.

Anyone know how much it would cost to get from the Movies Value resort to downtown Orlando or city walk?

I am heading to Disney with my girlfriend for out 21st birthday and would like to go out for atleast a night or two.

I'm not sure how much it would cost, but I was thinking if we went we would bus it to Downtown Disney and then catch a cab from there since the taxi's are already lined up at Pleasure Island. I'm thinking it would be cheaper from DD.:confused3

This is good to know!:thumbsup2

Is Jellyrolls happening every night of the week?

Monday-Sunday, 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

DTD is a bit closer to Universal than the resorts however there are a lot of traffic lights between DTD and I-4 whereas a cab might be able to hop onto I-4 directly from the resorts so there would be less waiting time. Also, if you stayed at CityWalk until closing and then took a cab back you'd pretty much have to go back to the resort anyway because the last run of buses from DTD would likely have already departed.

Seriously, you might consider a 1-day car rental and save versus a round-trip cab ride. A one day rental is actually 24-hours which means you could really take advantage of a car to visit the outlets or regular malls or do something completely different, plus visit CityWalk. Something to consider.

I know I started this thread as DD vs. BW but I was doing some searching around and came across another thread, someone had posted about Rix Lounge in the Coronado Springs Resort.

Anyone have experience partying at this bar?

Here is a link to Rix: http://rixlounge.com/

Rix is a beautiful facility but not very large. There is a DJ and a small dance floor. My problem with Rix is that there are television monitors glowing everywhere with sports. The place can't decide whether it wants to be a sports bar or a club. The televisions distract from the latter, IMO.

We are a couple with kids that manages to get out a few nights during our visits. Always enjoyed PI and really have missed it since it closed, especially the dance clubs like Mannequins and Motions. We have been to the BW several times and do enjoy Atlantic Dance Hall but like someone else said it's hit or miss. We have been there when there was a good crowd and we have been there when we were practically alone. We are not into piano bars or irish singing so we will definately be "swinging" by ADH again on our weekend/week after Thanksgiving trip. Hopefully it will be on the "hit" nights rather than the misses. Any other couples in town want to meet for a few drinks?

So glad I found this thread...

My friend and I are meeting up in Orlando and we are really going to miss PI. We had some great times there while roommates on the CP. We're really bummed it's gone. Anyway, CityWalk is an option now I suppose but I don't want to have to drive (I'll have my car...she is flying in) because I want to let loose and I get buzzed after 2 beers so driving is sort of out. But on top of that, it just seems like such a hassle to get there. Any idea how much a cab to CityWalk would be from POR?

How is Jellyrolls on Thursday, Friday or Saturday? Like what night of those 3 would there probably be the most crowds? I've been there on CM nights and it's super fun...and on non-CM nights it is dead. How many people go to Atlantic Dance? It always seems closed when I have walked by.
