I have a package booked between Christmas and New Years. I know, crazy, right? It is 3 days/2 nights, so i need a night before and after. We are considering using the Holida Inn Downtown Disney and/or the Hilton there. I thought being on site they would be convenient. However, remembering the traffic near downtown Disney when we were there in April with the construction and the extra crowds of the season, I am second guessing myself. Thinking about going to the marriott village or another hilton. We have our own car and points for a free night at all 3 hotel brands. Advice?

It's just my humble O, but I wouldn't shy away from the Hotel blvd. hotels. We always use them at the front of our vacations. We have stayed in most of them and they work for us. The Hilton is the closest and with the new pedestrian bridges that take you up and over the road, it will be an easy walk to DS. We use it and the Best Western most times but have used the Holiday before as well. We usually like to head to DS, maybe take a nice boat ride over to POFQ or over to Old Key West. And we usually spend the late night at DS eating at Raglan and having a relaxing evening at the hole in the wall or the Rainforest bar down on the water. I really do think that those pedestrian bridges will make it even better.

I'm going to move this over to the Orlando Hotels board, you'll find much more discussion of the DTD hotels over there. :)

If you were to stay outside of DTD then I assume you would have to drive to visit DTD whereas if you stayed at one of their hotels you could just walk over. I have stayed at several different properties there and the Hilton was by far my favourite. It is the closest walk, has nice rooms and a very nice pool area.

What is the walk like to DS? First Day, I have to go to POFQ to check in, but last day if the walk is decent it may be a plus. I was more thinking that getting to/from parks on that first and last day would be quicker if on site. But was worried the traffic may negate that. Although we mostly drive ourselves around when at Disney, we do use their transportation some. I am sure any alternatives to their transportation will be preferable with the crowds.

From the Hilton, you can be at DS in easily under 5 minutes. It basically is right across a busy street. We always had to wait for the signal, cross and wait again and cross, but now you will just have to walk over both roads. The Holiday is probably 7-8 minute walk. Best Western right at ten.

If you are going to be going to DTD, then yes it might be worth it but factor in higher points required and parking fees. The Hilton is directly across the street and an easy walk. The Doubletree is the farthest walk, but still totally doable, but you will get a suite that was just completely renovated a year ago.

If you are not using the time at DTD, then I certainly would look outside property to avoid the extra fees and the traffic. Check in to the Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista SOUTH, only a few years old. It is a short, easy 10 minute drive to POFQ for you. Includes an awesome breakfast including cooked to order omelets.
