Downtown Disney require a ticket?

We're not doing the park hopper this year and we have actually never been to Downtown Disney. What is required for admission? I don't think we want to waste one of our park tickets for that (because of our group going this year).

No admission for Downtown Disney Marketplace - lots of shops and restaurants; no admission for Downtown Disney West Side - more shops and restaurants and AMC movie theatre. Pleasure Island only requires admission to get into the bars after 7pm - you can still walk through to do shopping and to get from Marketplace to West Side in the evenings. Disney Quest is the only other place that requires admission at DTD.
