Downtown Disney Hotels????

Thinking of taking my wife on a surprise DW trip in December 2003 to sse the X-MAS decorations (this would get me big brownie points). However, the trip would have to be cheap. I noticed that this past Dec. some DD hotels (Grovsvnor, Hilton) offered some great deals $29 -$49 p/night. As a matter of fact right now the Grovsnor has $69 for August and $59 for Sept.

I'd appreciate some input from any who have stayed at any of the DD hotels.

I just got Courtyard at DD for $29 for next week on priceline. You could keep looking and book something & then change. But I think you sometimes get cheaper rates the closer you wait.

I've stayed at both the Marriot and BW via Priceline. My opinion on both: It's better than the Howard Johnson's MGE and other's like it. At $30 a pop from Priceline, we were beyond satisfied. We then asked ourselves at which point we would cease to be satisfied. The answer is around 60 to 70 per night.

At some of their list prices (the BW for my June stay lists $109 per night) I wouldn't do it. I'd be happy at the 60-70 price, overjoyed at $30. I've heard pretty much the same thing elswhere, although some are a little above. I'd suggest going to this page:

Mary from Mousesavers seems very thrilled with the Royal Plaza and Doubletree, although I've never been inside either. Anyway, my opinion on the two I've seen is it's not the Beach Club, it's not even equal to a moderate, but it's better, to me, than the All Star Resorts. You'll get older hotels, but bigger rooms. ANd the location can't be beat.
