Downtown Disney Hotels

Can someone give me some advice on the Downtown Disney Hotels? We are going on a DCL 11/24/07 and are planning on doing the MK the day after Thanksgiving. We are currently booked in Port Canaveral for 11/22/07 and 11/23/07. We are a family of 5, Me, DW and 3dds, 16,10,and 9. I am thinking of changing to one of the Downtown hotels for those nights and driving over to the port on Saturday. Which downtown hotel would be best for our family?

We liked the Hotel Royal Plaza. We had a room that had two beds and a fold out couch, which gave us plenty of room. I know we had a tower room and I think it was a deluxe. It was the one with the huge bath tub which was so nice to relax in after the parks.

We haven't stayed in any other DTD hotels, hopefully someone else will answer too

Hotel Royal Plaza is a good pick for a family of 5. Double Tree Suites would also accomodate 5 people.

Of the two, I prefer HRP. It is closer to DTD (walking distance), and it has just completed an enormous renovation.

I'll echo the comments for the Royal Plaza. It is not a great hotel, but it is certainly a decent hotel. I would suggest you go to Travelzoo and click on the Orlando page as this hotel tends to show up there a lot and you can get a good deal. Just be warned though, this place does charge a lot of fees, so just allow about $30 above the room rate.

Ok. the Hotel Royal Plaza it is!!! Booked it tonight through the Downtown Disney Hotel site. It was 50.00 cheaper per night through that than mousesavers. There is a 20% discount through the Downtown site. 149.00 per night for premier tower. That will sleep all 5 of us it looks like. It will be a little more that 2 nights at the port, but it will save driving over early in the morning and save on parking.
