We are considering staying at Double Tree in DT Disney this summer. Looking for info on the bus system from here to Theme and water parks (trying to avoid a rent-a-car.) Are the busses as dependable as those from the on site hotels? We've stayed at P-Orleans and All-Stars and been satisfied. Will I be as happy as the bus system from Double Tree in DT Disney? Any advice/help hee is appreciated
Thanks!!pirate:

I think the best thing to do is to walk to DTD and take the resort buses. I appears that is what people here suggest often. We are staying offsite but renting because with three little ones I just did not want to chance any lengthy bus wait.

We have stayed in 3 different DD hotels. The busses are nicer than the WDW transport busses. They are more like the coach style busses. However, they run a little less often than WDW resort busses. The come about every 30 minutes.

Hmmm, I never thought about just walking to DT Disney and taking the shuttles in. Thanks for the heads up! This is a great idea!

I think the buses from Downtown Disney only run to the resorts, not the parks. Also, they are SLOW (we waited for about 45 minutes to an hour once, should have taken a taxi!).

The buses from the Doubletree are about every 30 minutes. We stayed there once for an extended stay (must have been more than a week, but I forget it was years ago), and we used the bus system every day. It was fine for us.

If you have to get somewhere early, like for a dining reservation, you can always take a cab, then take the bus back. Or get a car for part of the time if you want. Mousesavers has information on rental car locations and discounts.

Hi Sully Dad!

We stayed at the Doubletree last June for 9 days. As the PP stated, the buses are nicer than the Disney buses but they do run less frequently - about every 30 minutes. Also if you need to be at the parks before opening for a character breakfast you would need to have a car or take a cab. We are late risers (2 teens in our party) so it was never an issue for us.

The buses at DTD only go to the resorts - not the parks. One thing we did though - we went to other resorts for dinner or shows (can't miss Bob Jackson at POR!) after the parks, then went on to DTD & caught the bus from DTD back to Doubletree. The buses returning from the parks were extremely full since there are only a few scheduled, so this was a much more pleasant option for us. One night though, a cruise bus was brought in for the overflow & we had about 8 of us on the bus. The bus drivers were ALWAYS wonderful - pleasant & very helpful.

Walking to DTD in the heat of summer is not fun - at least not for those of us from up north. Even in June we had temps in the upper 90's - one day topped 100!

I would definitely stay at the Doubletree again - we enjoyed it & the price was incredible. Any bus issues were negligable to us. Any questions, just ask!
