I'm back in the world of the Employed (that'll make Adolf Blair and Herman Brown happy). I decided to take the job that is very local to me. Although £10K a year less than what I was on previously (downside: limits any chance of me visiting WDW again), the plus's are: little stress; journey time 9 minutes good day, 11 minutes bad, and the directors like me:hug: .

I turned down the other roles:

The really well paid one (£25K more than my previous role) were basically wanting me to sign up to a "slavery" contract.

The other (approx same salary) went along the following....

interviewed for a more junior role prior to Christmas
told me after Christmas that I was far too experienced for the role so "thanks but no thanks"
contacted me a week later saying they would like to interview me for a more senior role.
had interview; "what is this more senior role?"; head the Project Planning and Control Dept; "How does this differ from the gentleman's role that interviewed me prior to Christmas?"; It's his role; "What's happening to him?"; that's for us to handle.
Checked with the agency and apparantly this guy was so impressed with me he strongly recommended that I be brought in to take on a senior project managers role, not knowing he was going to be removed from his post.

I said "No thanks". As of 3 days ago, this guy still didn't know he was going to be given the shove.

That's brilliant news, sounds like you made a wise decision!

Congrats!

And i'm sure you'll make it back to Disney...think of all the money you'll save on petrol etc being so near to work. Heck, you could even use a pushbike! :rotfl:

Congrats. :thumbsup2 At least having your managers like you means that it's sorta like going to WDW everyday, except for the fact that they aren't in funny suits.. :lmao: Plus, this gives you job security, rather than the thought of being given the shove without notice like the other dude..

Slightly feeling sorry for the other dude you mentioned though, but what happens to him is not really any of our business I suppose. :)

Excellent news Richard:)

Are there any chances of career advancement with the new company?

thats great news richard:thumbsup2 sounds like you were right to steer clear of the other company:sad2:

great news Richard, really pleased for you, sounds like you have made the right decision - well done you !

Well done Richard, after taking a massive drop in salary myself 7 years ago to go into travel I can honestly say its definately worth it to be doing something I enjoy, after all you spend more time working than anywhere else so its important to enjoy it.

Excellent Richard.
Incidentaly, did you have any redundo insurance, and did you have any problems claiming.

Congratulations, you have made a very wise choice! I`m all for quality of life over money anyday.

Well done you for taking a drop in salary to have less stress and less travel time. You've saved money with less petrol costs so this will help with the
£10K drop.

I work less than a mile from home so walk to work and when I'm having a bad day I look at moving but I couldn't stand the thought of a 40 minute journey each way, parking costs and petrol costs.

The directors of the company also think the sun shines out of my derriere so I get pretty much left to my own devices and can come and go as I please. This alone is worth £10K!

I'm a great believer in what goes around comes around and I think you're in for lots of good luck. There are not many people who would have thought about the "other guy" and would have taken the job without blinking an eye.
So many people step on others to get what they want - Well done you!

I wish you all the very best in your new job.

I hadn't taken out any redundancy insurance. The only problems I came across was claiming JobSeekers Allowance from the Jobcentre Plus, but that was the fault of my former employer - my P45 "disappeared" and they wouldn't respond to the Jobcentre.

Congratulations, Richard, I really admire your decision! :thumbsup2 Wishing you all the very best in your new role... pixiedust:

Congratulations Richard! :thumbsup2

I think I would have stayed away from the other company aswell

:yay:

totally agree with Janet

Congratulations on the good news. As for going to WDW again, I'm a humble part time hospital domestic, DH is a postman, so our salaries are very low and we are managing to visit for the first time later this year.

Sounds like the right decision to me Richard. Good luck in your new role :)
