downsides to 7 day expiration for waitlist?

I am waitlisting 1 day at the end of our vacation. If we don't get it, we will just travel home early. I currently have the expiration set for 31 days but is there any detriment to making it 7 days? I will bank my unused points at the end of July ( Dec UY). So if the waitlist comes through after that, I will have to borrow with both the 31 and the 7day.

I know there is something about canceling/replacing an existing reservation and not being able to put these points back in the current UY but this won't apply to us since we won't cancel/replace an existing res. and the points are being borrowed so they can't go back anyway.

Am I missing something?

If you cancel 30 or fewer days out all points go into a holding account, expire at the end of the use year unless used, and can only be used by reserving 60 days or fewer out. You do not have that issue in your situation since you will not be cancelling any part of your existing reservation but just trying to add a day and thus going to the 7 day waitlist is fine.

There's no downside in the situation you've described since you can make your travel decision that late. Even after that you can keep your eye on the website for availability.

If you're anxiety prone and have had bad dreams about forgetting to bank extra points and getting an unfriendly CM who won't help you make a first time exception(Not saying I've ever done that. . .nope. . .:rolleyes1), and your reservation is in the month that you have to bank points or lose 'em that 7 day wait list is heck to live with.

But then I want to fill my DVC bingo card and GFV is the last un-stayed DVC on my list. . .soooo.

But I see no downside in your situation.

The only time that deadline really matters is if you are replacing an existing booking and what you want will be less points than what you have reserved. If you waitlist to end a 7 days, and it came through, any points returned to the account would become holding points, which makes them restricted to being used for reservations booked 60 days or less out.

Since you want to just add a day, then leave it at 7 days out, but as mentioned, continue checking daily as sometimes you can snag what you want via website!
