Downside of discount tickets?

I remember when I last looked at buying tickets form, say, Undercover Tourist, there was a small downside.

I can't remember what it was. Was it that they couldn't be linked to KTTW cards? I suppose it does not matter now.

Let me ask the question fresh? Is there any downside? It seems now you can link them to MDE, get a Magic Band, make FP+ ressies. Anything I am missing that is lacking?

What about booking a "package" with Disney? Do you do better pricewise on the whole package when you buy your tickets from Disney? When using a room discount?

The only downside I've ever found is that tickets have to be purchased from Disney in order to qualify for free dining.

Your Undercover Tourist tickets cannot be part of a Disney Package. So they won't qualify you for any perks that come with booking a package, i.e. free dining, DisneyQuest passes, mini golf passes, discounts on activities, free arcade play, etc. If you are interested in these things, which come as part of a Magic Your Way deal you need to run the numbers and see if the savings from Undercover Tourist is better. It wasn't for us. We used the DisneyQuest and the Mini golf Vouchers which saved us almost $100.00. The UT discount was less than that. Do the math and you can make an informed decision.

Besides that, the tickets are good. They can be linked to your MDE account and Magic Bands. We have used them in the past. No problem.

This is partially incorrect. You can book a ticketless package for room and dining package by calling Disney CRO and booking over the phone. This entitles you to all package components. I did this for my trip next month and just received my DQ and minigolf vouchers, discount coupons and Arcade voucher in the mail this week. I bought my tickets through UT. Our week is not a free dining week so we weren't eligible for that anyway.

So I have everything the package offers but got a decent discount on my tickets!

Yes, that's the way it has been in the past. *Free* Dining packages require at least 2-day MYW base passes for everyone staying in the room.

But if you buy from someplace like UT, you don't get the magic bands automatically, right? You have to buy them separately and link them to your tickets? (Can you do that in advance or only when you get there?)

If you're staying in a Disney Resort Hotel, you will get MBs regardless of whether you buy tickets from them or not. The MBs are also the key to your room.

If you're staying offsite, you will not get MBs, even if you order your tickets from Disney directly. However, you can purchase MBs once you arrive at Disney if you want to use them instead of your ticket for admission to the parks and redeeming your FP+.

Btw I price bridged our six day it tickets to annual passes yesterday z I had to remind the cm to do it, but once I did it was no problem at all. (I figured out how much I was suppose to pay before going and when she have us a number several hundred higher I questioned it.)

For my October trip last year, I bought my room and tickets via travelocity because they had a code that gave me a little off the tickets along with a nice discount on my room. I was able to link my room ressies to my MDE account and get magic bands, but...could not link my tickets. Once onsite, cast members at both my hotel and at customer service in the parks could not link my park tickets to my account on my magic band (and I spent a fair amount of time trying to make this work).

So, I had to carry cards to get into the parks. Not a huge deal, but fishing cards out of my backpack was not nearly as easy as scanning a band. For this year's trip, I bought my park tickets directly from Disney, because the little savings I could have gotten elsewhere wasn't worth the hassle (IMO).
