I know that Disney doesn't want to hear the diagnosis, they instead want to hear WHY waiting in line is an issue. I've heard and read conflicting information on approval.

No one can give you a script, but just explain why waiting in a standard line is difficult.

What should one say (specifically) when trying to acquire the DAS pass?

DISboards doesn't allow posting of specific scripts, as each individual's needs may be unique even with the same/similar diagnosis.

You (or someone on behalf of the individual) should discuss the person's NEEDS as specifically related to waiting in a standard queue environment. Think of other situations where a queue is involved and how that individual handles reacts -- maybe a line at the movie theater, long line at a check-out counter, fast food, bouncy house at a local festival, etc.

Enjoy your vacation!

We can’t tell you what to say.
Just like other diagnoses, Down Syndrome varies tremendously from person to person.
I know people with children who have Down Syndrome who are enrolled in college and have very little need/want for accommodations.
I also know people with Down Syndrome who have many difficulties.

So, your task is to communicate to the CM what you are concerned about regarding waiting in the regular lines. What about waiting in the regular lines will cause issues and what kind of issues.

Thanks everyone! I didn't realize that my OP violated rules, so I will be removing that! I have just read lots of horror stories, so I was trying to avoid that! I appreciate the feedback!

On thing that might help is trying it with out the DAS and this way you can go in and say my child has a hard time in lines because of and let the CM know what is hard about lines. Also you can ask for the stroller to be used as a wheelchair if they are that age and if you think that will help

My son has Down syndrome. We haven’t really had to explain why the last few times because it is apparent. As others have stated, just explain why you need it and it should not be an issue. We get one every year - feel free to PM if you have questions. My son made it very easy on us last time by throwing a tantrum in the guest services line - no explanation needed on why we wanted a DAS when he was yelling, “Nooooooo! Noooooo!” Lol! Depending on the age, also ask for a stroller as a wheelchair pass. If too old for a stroller, I recommend considering if a wheelchair is needed.

My BFF’s son has Down Syndrome. He would need zero accommodations. He’s in his early 30s. He is a wonderful person who has a job, lives independently and is just a great person.

I know someone with down sysdom too that will need no accommodations also someone with ASD that does better then I do in lines this is why it is need based not DX based for getting the DAS
