I'm planning to take my digital camera with me to WDW. It's my 3.5 yo DS and 8 yo DN's first visit so I expect to take MANY pictures. Trying to figure out though what to do when my memory card is full. I don't really want to take my laptop just to download these pictures, but would rather find a place where I can download them and save to disk. Any suggestions?

You can now download pics to a disk in the photo processing place at MK now (don't recall the name of it). I believe it is $12/disk. I heard they were going to also do this at resorts, but I don't know if they did yet. BUT from what I've read it takes quite a while and I would just be really paranoid that it didn't work and I'd come home with a blank disk and had erased all my pictures!!

I just bought a 1GB memory card instead, so combined with my other smaller cards I should be able to take over 500 pictures. Personally, spending the $90 on the 1GB card is worth it. I'm even considering buying another 512mb card to give me another 150+ pics. The prices on cards has gone down considerably lately.

It might even be worth it to get a couple of smaller memory cards I bought one recently at best buy on sale for $24(?) holds 80 pics so plus my 24 i get internal I figured i was set, but I am taking my lap top so I can download and look at pics maybe even print while there. Sometimes i cant tell on that little screen on the camera if the pic is good.

I'm planning on finding a Walgreens/CVS/Rite Aid/Target or whatever. You can dump a ton of pics on a CD probably for around $7-8! Maybe do a mapquest search to see what's nearby where you're staying? Also, preview pics on your camera and delete pics you know you don't want so you don't waste space on the CD.
Have fun!
:)

I'm new to this whole digital camera thing, but I've never printed pics out from my own computer before. I either get them from Snapfish or WalMart. I was hoping to find a WalMart on the trip, download the pics off of my memory card, and then have the actual prints made (it takes an hour). I thought it would be cool to come home with actual photos.

I also read that this will be available in the resorts soon :)

You can dump them onto a disk at Wal-mart for $2.84 for 200+ pics. That's way better than what Disney/Kodak would charge you. If there is a nearby Wal-Mart and you have a way to get there, that's what I would do. I usually wait until my card is full or almost full and print what I want and dump it all on a disk. They give you a little print out of all the pics on the disk so you know what's on there.

Brenda

btw, printing is only $.19 a pic at Wal-Mart now.

If you are a Snapfish.com user, they have a new thing where you can email your photos to save@mysnapfish.com (you see them on the web immediately,) and they automatically go into your account online -- then you can dump the memory & know the photos are saved. Best of all, it's free!

Wow, thanks for that info about Wal-Mart, CinderellasMama. Those prices are great! I'm going to start going there instead of CVS! :)

There is a thread on the Theme Park board with lots of info on digital cameras. Also if you download your pictures to a CD, make sure they are on there before deleting your memory card. A while back someone here found out when they got home that the CD was blank and they lost their pictures.

You're welcome! I work at my local W-M so I'll stop by the photo lab on my lunch and pop my card in the machine, print what I want, and put the rest on a disk. It takes an hour or less but I usually pick mine up when I get off. You can also send photos from your computer to the W-M site and pick them up in an hour at whatever location you pick. I have done this also and it works great.

I would bring an extra memory card. That way, if you fill up one, you can just pop in the second one and continue snapping pictures. Also, it's best to have an extra one in case anything happens to the first one.

I say bring the laptop
thats what I am going to do -
I have 2 memory cards and still want to download them everynight...
figure I can order pictures and they will be home before me too!

I was thinking of bringing the laptop, but with two kids (which means three suitcases) plus a car seat who wants to lug another bag? You all convinced me to buy another memory card, so I bought a 1 GB, should hold plenty of pics and I'll swing into a Walmart in the evening and download to a disc if I need to. Thanks for all the info.

Last October, we were about to spend $100 on a new memory card at the photo store in EPCOT (too many princess breakfasts!!) :sad2: when the CM mentioned that for a few dollars (don't remember the exact amount, but I think it was less than $10) they would burn all of the photos from our memory card to a CD. So, we turned in our disk and went picture-less for four hours, and then voila - we had a CD with all 70+ pictures on it!!

I did check the CD to make sure before deleting the pictures from my camera, and then started by deleting the less "valuable" pix first, just in case, but I had absolutely no problems.

We're going again this October and plan to do the same thing, rather than spend $$$ on a card that will only get used when we're on vacation. I'm pretty sure that they have this service at the gift shops at WDW hotels as well. I'm sure that it's a service that will be expanding, rather than declining, given the growing numbers of digital camera users.

Hope this helps!!

How do you check to make sure the CD is fine before you delete the pictures on your memory card? I just purchased my first digital camera last week for our upcoming trip. I don't have a laptop, so my only option(other that buying a bunch of memory cards) is to have a CD done.

Is this service offered in all of the parks?

Well, we actually had a portable DVD player with us (we used it on the plane) and found out that it will also play a CD (display the pictures). However, if you don't have one of those, I'm not sure. I would investigate at the photo counters in the parks - I bet that they could play it on a computer there and check to make sure the files are on it.

I would guess that they also double-check at the photo lab when they burn the pix to the CD in the first place, but I would probably not be comfortable deleting my photos from the memory card until I could be sure. But there are computers everywhere - even the front desk at the hotel could probably check for you!!

I'm bringing a digital camera, too, mainly to avoid the hassle at the airport with film. I am also planning on having the photos downloaded onto a CD at WDW. If it is reasonable, I'm planning on asking the CM to take the CD to another computer and check the pictures. Maybe I'll have to drag it to a different resort, I don't know. Point is, I will be checking the CD BEFORE I erase the memory card. :rotfl:

I didn't even think about airport security and digital camera. :earseek:

Is there anything I need to worry about? Is it best to have the camera hand checked?

for the ability to download, also for plane trip (play dvd's), plus if for some reason (can't think of one right now), but the kids get bored and want to play games or watch dvd's in the room.

DH got one for work trip and I CRINGE when he wants to take my precious (laptop) away from me...have PC but dawgoneit, it's so confining!
