Downgrading from a lock off to a 1BD?

If I have a lockoff 2BD reservation is it possible to “downgrade” it to a 1BD without having to fight for availability (i.e. just take the 1BD side of a reservation and drop the studio)? My family’s schedule is a bit up in the air for next year and we’re trying to figure out much space we’d want. Mentally I cannot justify having a 2BD for 3 people, but if my son and husband can come along as well we’re going to want the extra space. I know that we could book a 1BD and a studio and cancel the studio, but we’d prefer to be all together if everyone comes.

We probably won’t know about everyone’s availability until 60-90 days out, and by that time we’d be unlikely to be able to grab a 1BD if we wanted to downgrade the 2. But if we could “break” the lockoff it would work.

Unfortunately you can’t drop the studio or 1br from a 2br lock off.

It’s a cancel and rebook, with the risk of losing the entire reservation.

A few had luck calling MS and they made it happen but most was not successful calling MS.

We were not able to do that so I would go in expecting it to be a no.

I would try booking the lockoff separately and then asking MS to link them together and request adjacent/adjoining 1Bd+studio— there’s no guarantee but at least you won’t lose your room if you want to downsize?
You end up paying the “lock off premium” if you do it that way though, don’t you? With the two halves adding up to a greater cost than the 2 bedroom booked as a lockoff?

I know when we book at AUL they are the same…I’m not sure about WDW because we’re usually in studios or 1bd.

Yes, you do…but it allows you to cancel one part out if some can’t go.

So, it depends which is more important. For me, I’d book the two bedroom and if not everyone goes, then I’d enjoy the space!!
