Downgrading AP at Renewal

Question for those that may have done this already or may have some insight.

We currently have the Incredi-pass but don't think we are going to want to go during Thanksgiving or Christmas-time anymore so it makes sense when it comes time to renew our passes that we would renew to the Sorcerer's Pass.

So a couple of questions.

#1) If we downgrade at our renewal time should we still receive the 15% renewal discount?
#2) Do we have to call to renew since it is a "DVC" pass. I know it appears as though it would let me purchase a new one online, but on the renewal page it indicates you have to call to renew a DVC Pass.

You will get the renewal rate for the pass and yes, to renew your pass to Sorcerer you have to call DVC or do it in person.

Thanks, just seems odd to me that DVC can purchase a new one online but can't renew, that 's why I asked. I appreciate it.

When you renew and downgrade does the date it is activate start right away or do you have to activate them in the park next time you are there?

If you are renewing then it would start the day after your original pass expires. If you want a different activation date you have to buy a new pass (and don't get the 15% discount for renewal).

When renewing from an incredi-pass to a Sorcerer's, you pay the Sorcerer's renewal rate, currently $876.50 plus tax. Its cost as new is currently $969, i.e., the renewal discount on a Sorcerer's pass is currently about 10% not the 15% renewal discount for an incredi-pass. To get the renewal rate, you must renew between 60-days before to 30-days after your expiration date.

Base new is $969…15% discount was $823….these are both pre tax. The $876 you mention includes the tax..which is what I paid.

New Sorcerer with tax is $1032. So. I did get a 15% discount.

Yes, I have done it!

Yes, you can downgrade at time of renewal. My understanding about applying value of unused tickets to purchase of an AP is that it’s limited to one unused ticket applied to one AP.

You should be able to, yes. The only difference is old tickets are no longer "bridged" or brought up to current gate value. They are minted at what Disney sold them for when you originally purchased them.

I bought tickets for my kids for the Thanksgiving trip this year back in early December last year before the prices went up and before APs became available again (we were in the unfortunate circumstance where I didn't buy APs for everyone right away, and then they stopped selling them for a looong time, enough that I didn't want to risk APs not coming back and then pay more for tickets for a trip I knew we were taking). But of course APs came back, I decided to buy the kids APs, and now I have two sets of tickets we aren't going to use anytime soon. My husband and mine's APs renew in December, so I figure we can renew them in person to apply the value of the tickets and downgrade to Sorcerer's Pass for the following year.

That said, could I apply the value of one of the APs if I wanted? It should more than cover mine, I think, even with renewing, because I add on memory maker and water parks. I confess I keep going back and forth on whether to keep APs for both kids. My oldest is in college now, so he really is only going with us once a year at present. I got him the AP because I didn't want to have to deal with buying tickets AND didn't want to risk they stopped selling them again and not be able to get him one if he joins us more than once a year, but then the frugal part of my brain is telling me I am way overpaying for park tickets for him if he only comes once a year, lol.

They will not refund the difference of the AP and the renewal price but I’d the value of that is less than what you will spend, it should work to use the value of the AP toward your renewal.

Called MS just last week to downgrade our APs to the Sorcerer’s Pass. Slightly annoying that I couldn’t do it online but it didn’t take too long.
