downgrade yourself?

I was wondering if anyone has ever "downgraded" their reservation.
The reason I am asking, we have a trip coming up in November, we are also in the process of buying a home. We already have a pretty bare bones trip, and we are thinking that a Disney trip might be just what we need after the stress of buying a home.
That being said, we are booked for a full hookup and are renting a popup, we are now thinking of just flying our camping stuff down there and tent camping to save even more money, but I am not sure how that would work with the concrete pad for the tent.

Is there a way to still pay the full hookup price but request a partial, then they could "pixie dust" another family and give them a full hookup for the price of a partial?

I'm not sure there is a way to pay for a more expensive site and donate the difference if you want a partial.

Switching to a partial should only be a phone call as long as one is available. I think it is a nice gesture to want to spread some pixie dust, I'm just not sure how they would manage it.

Nice gesture but probably not in the computer system to make that change. We have down-graded in the past and let it go at that.

We get Fast Pass tickets after getting off Soarin' then hit the rest of EPCOT. As we are leaving I look for a couple walking in then ask if they like Soarin', have yet to find somebody who said no, hand them the tickets and usually tell them to walk on NOW.

that's the issue here, there are no partial available, so what I am thinking is when we get there to check in, to ask to be downgraded, if all the sites are truly taken then they could upgrade someone else who is in a partial, they can tell on the reservation if its someone in a popup, who has no preferences, so as not to put another tent camper on a full. we still pay the same price, but we downgrade ourselves.

Even in a full hookup site there is the "sandy" (cocina?) area behind the pad for a tent, correct? You could just pitch it up there!

Just a bit worried our tent is too big. I am sure we could make it work. I also find the partials a bit quieter without generators and whatnot. Any trip to Disney I will be happy, so we should be okay.

Okay, I'm not being smart here - but why are people running their generators when there's power at the sites? Im confused lol

Ok maybe not generators, sorry that was me not thinking, but just running ac and keeping the campers running. Just the noises. Typically we find the partials quieter due to more people tent camping.

Nov 8-13. There has been nothing at all. There wasn't anything when we initially booked or we would've home with partial and now we are a month out.

Keep trying. Things always pop up (no punt intended). We are there 11/2-11/9 staying in a tent site. And I have been able to tweek it a little this week.

Ironically enough, we have a TT and have been to FWC probably 12 times the last 6 years. We just thought it would be fun (different) and cheaper to tent camp. We are driving 1100 miles. Good luck.

Edit - also try some different combination of your dates like including the day before and/or the day after. I've seen some weird combination come up for some dates and not others. Don't know why, but that it how I got the 2nd added to my ressie. Wasn't showing up until I included it in like a 5 day search and showed available. The CS was able to take it and add it to my current ressie. Hope it makes sense.

CiCiBee,

If you're worried about the size of your tent, call Reservations and ask the CM to add the dimensions of your tent as a note on your ressie. That way the assigner will see it and make sure you get a Full site with a sand pad large enough to accommodate you.

Also, once you arrive and check in, if you get to your site and it WON'T fit your tent, if you see an empty site of the same type that will, call the Front Desk from a Comfort Station (the outside House Phone has the numbers listed at it) and ask them to switch you over. This happened to me back in 2011 when I was assigned a site in 2000, went to it, and someone was set up on it. But I saw an empty site I liked, called from the CS, and it was easy shmeezy.

Actually, in general, we find that most tent campers are noisier than camper units. The fact being (all places, not just FW) they are mostly outside their units for the most part (tents, whatever) and the noise tends to carry more. That's been our 'take' over the years. :goodvibes

We have no hit our next dilemma, I would love to call Disney and tell them our size of tent, but it is a tent that we ordered from the UK and I have no idea how to translate the measurements into what size they would be here to let someone know. That sounds completely crazy, but its not a tent that is sold in the States.

what measurements do you have? Maybe someone on hear can help you with the translations

If in Metric system you can post it here. I can help and I am sure many others here would help.

The reservations folks should be internationally savy enough to translate metric to feet and inches.

this is what the website says :)
Groundsheet: PE 12 x 12 130 g/m² 10,000 mm HH

The 12 x 12 has me stumped. From UK they could be using feet. Not logical in metric measurments. 12 centimeters is 5 inches so it would be 5 inches x 5 in. No. 12 meters by 12 meters would close to 40 ft x 40 ft. Not logical for a tent. 1600 sq ft. The 130 g/m2 is weight per sq meter. The 10000 mm HH means it is very very good against water. PE IDK. Can you find any other measurements and or type.

Google is your friend on deciphering these things. It looks like the "Groundsheet: PE 12 x 12 130 g/m² " is something Kampa uses to describe the tent floor. The only thing that comes up in a search are tents from Kampa. Different size tents all have the same ground sheet description.
The 10,000 mm HH is a European standard for measuring the waterproofness of fabrics. 10,000mm is the lowest to be considered waterproof. Per this article, Gortex is 28,000mm HH. HH stands for hydrostatic head.

Here is the Kampa web page. This has the dimensions for the tents in cm. It takes a little figuring out, but if you pick the model you ordered, it shows a little diagram with the dimensions drawn in.
