Down Payment Options?

If I was to buy Direct from Disney and put 10% down, what options do I have to do so? Is it credit card only or can I send a check?

Also, if I buy resale, do they require money up front, like $500 then pay the balance at closing?

I know you can use the credit card for the down payment via Disney, but not sure about the other option.

I do know that when I bought resale, I needed to send 10% down in the form of a check (TSS, who I used, does not accept credit cards for the purchase). Once they got that, the contract was sent to Disney for ROFR.

The balance was due, certified check or money order, at the time of closing.

On my add on I put an initial down on my CC to hold the purchase, then sent in the rest of my down by check with the paper work(I used cashier check, but they take personal too). For my resale I put 100 down by credit card and then sent the remainder due at closing by cashier check.

Who'd you use for resale that you could put the down payment via credit card?

Direct from Disney would have to be via cc or debit card. No checks, at least that was our experience. They wouldn't process the deal without the money essentially in hand via a cc #. I used my debit card, essentially the same as writing that check, the money was just removed from my account immediately vs. 1-x number of days like a paper check.

Actually, we signed our paperwork in March, 2009 while doing the tour at SSR and put an initial $500 down (via credit card) when we signed the paperwork and then were required to send in a voided check and the remaining downpayment, either by check (mailed with the voided check) or credit card (call MS with credit card number). So, you *can* pay by check or credit card if buying direct through Disney. We have a Disney Visa so we, of course, opted for the points.

Ok, again what I said was my experience... but you still paid your initial downpayment via cc - did they give you the option of paying that initial $500 by check while you were there? I just ask because when we first took the tour we were given the option of splitting the payment in half like you mention, but the only option given us that day was via cc or debit card...and then if we wanted to send in the rest later it could be by check - but not until after they already had money from us.

We were told we could pay by check, but that it would slow things down because of they way they process checks.

I'm assuming the voided check you had to send in was for automatic monthly payment of your dues or your loan?

not sure if that applies to everyone though. I think it may be for the people with real low credit scores.

Yes, that is correct - since we opted for direct debit from our checking account, we had to provide a voided check.

Magic beans, huh? You think those are what the Bush's Baked Beans people use to get their golden retriever to talk? :rotfl:

Since I don't travel with my checkbook, I honestly didn't even ask my Guide about paying the initial down payment by check, so I'm not sure about that. I only know that we could pay the remaining down payment via check or credit card.

Again - just my experience... but maybe it's just a guide thing then... or maybe they've become more flexible - I don't know... our first tour was in 06 with one guide who said must be cc initially, but the remainder could be by check... no purchase that day, not quite ready. 2nd tour was in early 07, different guide, same response... no purchase that day - I was ready, DW was not yet there... When we did finally purchase a month later, it as over the phone from home - and we had the same guide as 2nd tour, and no checks were allowed, only cc or debit card... so I just don't know. :confused3 I wasn't trying to be accusatory or disbelieving Crystal :sad2: ...but was just sharing my experience and trying to see what your guide said. :flower3:

We purchased 9 years ago....so maybe things have changed, but we paid the initial $500 with a check.

Our recent add-on was done with a cc over the phone...........

Stopher, :grouphug: - you weren't at all being accusatory or disbelieving. If anything contained in my posts made you feel that way, I apologize. :grouphug:
