I just ordered one from Overstock.com for $18! It's down and white feathers. The customers who've received it gave it 4.2 out of 5 stars, so it must not be too "cheap." There's free shipping right now, too.
We bought ours at Kohls a year ago and love it. We paid less than $200 for a king. I can't remember the maker, it might be Sealy. One suggestion, make sure it is baffled and not just one big comforter. Otherwise, all the down will migrate to one area of the comforter, leaving the other areas bare!
Helpful hints:
Get the highest thread count you can afford
baffles are your friend
high fill power
highest quality down you can find *not feathers*
We have a down blanket for the spring/summer and a comforter for the winter. I don't know how we lived w/o either one of them. We're always the perfect temperature. No more chills or night sweats!
watch out if you have allergies. We had one and really bothered me. We got the down alternative comforter from Target a few years ago and love it. I think it was $69.99 for king size it comes in colors. Ours is a red color. Less messy and troublesome.
We use down alternative as well, it can go through the washer and dryer (not all down can--beware of high dry cleaning costs!) and is warm and comfy. I want to think it came from Bed, Bath & Beyond, I"m sure on sale or with one of their 20% off coupons.
Target has one til today. Woolrich down blanket any size 24.99. 240 thread count and 550 fill.Square quilting. We bought this last month and love it. Just ordered it online yesterday for my DS as his is shot and he needs a new one.I believe it is on page 21.
