Does anyone know how late taxis are found at Dover Priory train station?

We (family of 5) were thinking of taking a train from St. Pancras station arriving around 10pm (11pm at the latest) in Dover. I was hoping to then take a taxi from the train station to the hotel (probably Best Western). We prefer to arrive in Dover the night before for peace of mind and to allow time to tour Dover Castle before boarding the next day (with the convenience of a hotel to hold our luggage while we tour).

Thank you!

Dover is TINY (to my surprise) and it seemed like pretty much everyone arriving in Dover was getting on the Disney cruise ship the following day, so my guess would be that there would always be taxi's there when the train is arriving, ESPECIALLY knowing that there would be a ship departing the following day. (Literally, I'm pretty sure everyone at the Best Western was sailing with us).

Another option would be to call your hotel upon arrival and have them send a taxi for you (or take the taxi number with you so you can call). FYI - Taxi's were VERY backed up the morning of sailing, but they were pretty much going round trip from the hotel(s) to the port and that was maybe a 5 minute ride.

We used Dover Heritage Taxis (now part of http://www.dovertaxis.com/) when we were in Dover in 2015 - from the station to the hotel, from the hotel to Dover Castle and back, and from the hotel to the port. We pre-booked from the hotel to the port online, and just happened to get the same cab/driver when we arrived in Dover on the train in the afternoon a couple of days prior to our embarkation date. We had a party of 5, and I doubt there are many minivan cabs - so we lucked out. We had the hotel call for a cab the next day to take us to the castle - gain, the same cab and driver! By the time we got back from the castle (we arranged a pick-up with him when he dropped us off), we knew who would be picking us up to go to the port.

The point of all that is... Get in touch with a cab company in Dover and pre-book transportation if you're worried. It was easy to pre-book, and we had a great experience with the company we used.

I think I am going to follow your plans and prebook all our pre-cruise Dover taxi needs through Dover Heritage taxis.

You all have been so helpful with sharing your experiences. Thank you!

Do you think it makes sense to just get a taxi from the taxi rank at the cruise terminal when we disembark or do I need to prebook that too since I need something that seats 5?

Dover's small, and there aren't a lot of taxis in town. I'd pre-book for 5, since when we were there 3 years ago there were only 1 or 2 taxis in town that could hold that many (plus luggage).

We are arriving in Dover the morning of our cruise by train from London. We arrive at 9:40 a.m. Will taxis be plentiful from the train station to the port or should we pre-book? Party of 7, so we’ll have to take 2 taxis. Thanks!
