Both hotels are offering good rates for our trip in August. We have not stayed at either hotel. Any feedback on which one we should choose of the two would be greatly appreciated!

We've stayed at both and I would highly recommend the Hyatt over the Doubletree...the hotel and rooms are much nicer IMO and the Hyatt has a DL shuttle, don't know if the DT has one.

Have a great trip :flower3:

I haven't stayed at either one, but I bid on priceline for our trip in July (3 1/2 star hotels in anaheim) and got the Doubletree. Honestly I was hoping for the Hyatt or Crowne Plaza, but we got a good deal so hopefully it all works out. The reviews and pictures on TripAdvisor all look really good and it shows that they do have a DL shuttle. I will be glad to give you a report on it when we return, but it will be a few weeks. :)

Thanks for the info. I was also wondering if the KIDS suite are worth the extra price ? It sounds really nice?

I will be looking forward to your entire trip report. It will be our first trip to DL also! I have been looking through all the trip reports and they all seem to give the Doubletree good reviews

I bid on Priceline as well for upcoming July trip. I got the hyatt. Just to let you know, I called the front desk and they said I could upgrade to a suite or kidsuite for $25-40 a night. We are still undecided about the upgrade. I will post pics when we return on JUly 19 th! HOpe you enjoy your first trip. DLR is magical!!

If you are looking for either of those hotels, I would definitely suggest using Priceline. I'm staying from the 7-12 of august at the Hyatt at a great rate of $41 per night. Definitely research some bidding sites (betterbidding or biddingfortravel)

I'm looking forward to staying at the Hyatt, but the Doubletree was good in my opinion. The rooms are pretty large and nice enough. There is a free shuttle from there as well that goes to Disneyland. Also the Block at Orange is right next door and there are a lot of nifty shops/restaurant/entertainment.

Sounds like a great deal! My only reservation was on a past bidding experience on hotwire. I chose a three star hotel for booking and we recieved a hotel that was barely a two star on all the websites. They would not cancel the reservation no matter how many times I called to complain! So I am very skeptical about bidding. Is there anyway to guarantee I get the hyatt? Thanks for the feedback

Our trip is at the same time! I noticed that u have stayed at the DL resort several times . We really wanted to stay at the GC but just don't wanna spend that much money! Looking for the nicest hotel close with a nice price too! We have stayed at the GF,WL,and the CR at WDW and are looking for something to those nice hotels

There is no way to guarantee getting a specific hotel on Priceline unfortunately; however, Priceline is much more accurate with the star rating. Recent 3.5* wins I saw were the Anaheim Hilton Suites, Crowne Plaza, Doubletree and of course the Hyatt. Betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com has a list of hotels that fall under certain categories in the areas you're searching as well as tips for bidding strategies.

I would love to stay at one of the Disney Resort hotels too, especially, but haven't been able to since I was in high school (on my parent's dime). They need more affordable options on-site IMO. Since then, I've stayed at few cheap motels, or pretty nice hotels when I'm in Anaheim for business. I've only discovered how to really take best advantage of Priceline recently, so I will be taking more trips to DLR in the future. The Doubletree is a good place to stay, and the reviews for the Hyatt Regency OC look great if you don't want to use the risk of Priceline. Also, a lot of people on here love HOJO, but I've never been.

Anyway, maybe I will see you when I'm there! I'll have my LGMH on me somewhere.

Thanks for the help. We are now looking at bidding for a room on Priceline. I am wondering if the winning bid price will have anything to do with the hotel choice i get from priceline ? For example, if I bid $37 and get the bid will I be put in the cheapest hotel from list and if I bid $50 will I get one of the nicer choices? Thanks again for all the help![/COLOR]

That's not necessarily how it works. The hotels give them a minimum bid to accept, but it doesn't necessarily correspond to the most or least expensive though the Hyatt Regency was the cheapest from the hotels in the 3.5 list. I definitely suggest you go to the bidding for travel website faq

My winning bid for hyatt on Priceline was $42. That was my starting bid, so they may have accepted cheaper. My dates were 7-12 to 7-18. Good luck to you.

I also want to suggest you look at betterbidding.com. I've never done priceline but I did hotwire last year and didn't have a problem. I've heard that some people get a lower hotel than they were expecting (like what happened with PP) but i didn't have that problem. In fact, I was 99% sure I knew which hotel I was getting. You can look at the list of amenities and then look on betterbidding to see which hotels people have won with those same amenities. That way it's not as much of a gamble. With priceline you really don't know which hotel you're getting but I guess they're stricter about their star ratings which is good. Good luck!

Torgue: I sent you a PM with a bidding strategy. Hope that helps.

Thanks again! I am going to place my bid later in the week and see what happens. I will be so happy to just have my reservations finished and know that we will be at DLR in August!

I've stayed at both hotels, the Hyatt and Doubletree. The Doubletree stay was a result of a Priceline bid. Both are nice hotels, but I'd give the edge to Hyatt. Also, if you have a car with you, note that both hotels charge for parking, and their daily parking fees are not cheap ($14 for the Hyatt, $12 for the Doubletree, unless they have raised their rates since my visits).

We've stayed in a Hyatt kidsuite before. It was nice to have the extra room and indeed it is spacious. You get bunk beds and a TV in the kids' room and a microwave (fridges are in all the rooms) in a kidsuite. However, I didn't think it was worth the upgrade because we were hardly in our room. If you were going to be in your room more, than I'd say go for it...however, not worth it if all you do is sleep in your room after a long day of touring.

One more thing, I just completed a Priceline stay at a Hilton hotel in Oregon earlier this month, and found out something new. Apparently, some Hiltons have a contract with Priceline for a King bed room only. So if you do get a Hilton hotel via Priceline, you may want to call ahead to ask about that -- you don't want to find out the hard way, if you're travelling with your family, that you have only a King bed.

Ok, well things did not go exactly how I planned . We moved our trip from August to October. I placed a bid on priceline at $41 and won! And we have a little problem. The hotel is the Crowne Plaza. I had only done a little research on this hotel. I called the front desk today to check on the reservation. I requested a room with 2 queen beds and they said that there is no way of knowing what type of room that we will recieve until we check in but she will add the request. I can't imagine all three of us sleeping in a King Bed together for an entire week. We will be miserable and get no sleep! Any suggestions? I am very disapointed and thinking about just booking a suite at the Doubletree and eating the $200 at the Crowne Plaza ?

ooh, yeah, this is why I have never booked with priceline, you just never know what you're going to get. I have never stayed at Crown Plaza, but I don't think I would just flush my money down the toilet just yet (that's just me). There is still the chance that you will get double beds. If they don't offer you double, maybe just the threat of leaving right then and there *might* sway them to be more accomadating-even though they already have your money, they would still be losing your business and any additional revenue you might generate during your stay (i.e. parking fees, room service, tips, etc...)

The other suggestion is maybe bring an aerobed with you, if possible. Sometimes those air mattresses are more comfortable than hotel beds anyway.
