I am torn between these two choices. There is a great rate available for the DT if we pre-pay. However, when we factor in the cost of parking and breakfast, it will be a bit more than the Candy Cane.

Just curious what you all have to say about these two resorts. We are two adults w/out kids who will be at DL in Aug...for a few nights mid-week. We typically stay at moderates when at WDW. Thanks!

We loved the Double tree suites. It was brand new when we stayed there. The beds are great and the two room set up was very nice. We walked to Target to get breakfast items so that was cheap. We also didn't have a car to park.

My daughter and I stayed at CCI for a week this past August and loved it. The location was excellent, we could walk back and forth if we wanted and they also had a bus that ran very on schedule back and forth to DL. They have a breakfast every morning: fruit, muffins, cereal, coffee, juice, and I think sweet rolls or donuts. The grounds are very clean along with the rooms being clean too. We are big WDW visitors and try to stay on Disney property as much as we can. We thought the DL hotels were just abit out of our price range, and CCI seemed to be as close to staying on Disney property as you can get.

Good luck and have a great trip!

Thanks for the responses so far....I have an additional question!

How is the coffee at the Candy Cane? Or is there a Starbucks/good coffee establishment located within quick walking distance. I already know there is a Starbucks inside the DT. (This question is for my husband :surfweb: )

THANKS! :thumbsup2

I'm a Starbucks junkie to say the least and always search them out when traveling. The closest ones that I know of are not within walking distance and are further down Harbor with one at the Marriott and one at the Hyatt.

Starbucks Locations

The premium rooms at CCI actually have a grinder and they provide the little packet of beans daily. It's so-so I guess but nothing to rave about.......it's still hotel coffee.

I usually just wait until I get in the park and grab a latte on Main Street. While we're at DL, this is the only time when Starbucks actually takes a back seat to my itenerary!

We've stayed at both places and the rooms at each were very nice (and I'm pretty picky about hotel rooms). The staff at both are very pleasant as well. The beds at each are very comfy. When we stayed at Doubletree, we used DH's Hilton point level to get free limited breakfast.

Doubletree: Pro - larger rooms (if you are not spending much time in the room, it may not be worth it).
Con - parking fee to stay at the hotel, further distance from the park (making it more difficult to walk to DL), no free breakfast

Candy Cane: Pro - free expanded continental breakfast (bagels, cereal, muffins, fruit), free parking, walking distance to DL (or take their free shuttle)
Con - smaller hotel, first floor rooms close to the pool & breakfast area can get pretty noisy between 7 and 8 am.

Thanks for all your advice!!

We went ahead and booked a DLR package staying at the Candy Cane through DU for August. Looking so forward to seeing my old "home" park and showing it to my DH who has never been. While I now live a few hours from WDW, DL will always hold that very special place in my heart. Plus, I get to see DCA for the first time. Back in '98 (my last visit)....DL was just DL...not DLR!
