Hi,

We are scheduled to stay at the Doubletree in Downtown disney, we are a family of 5 and really wanted a little bit more space, sm kitchenette, like the location too but didn't really want to spend the $$$ on 2 rooms on site, it looks OK, apparently the pool is also being renovated!

Has anyone stayed there lately? please let me know if it's OK !
:grouphug:

Also, We are going from Aug 18-29

We will have our van but what's the DT transportation like?

We will be there from April 30-May7 will post when we get back and let you know how it is. We will be using the bus transportation so I will let you know about that too. I spoke with the hotel the other day and they mentioned that all the rooms had the new down duvets and pillows etc. The pool closure is just a two week maintenance thing unfortunately during our holiday. If you got a good rate I don't think I would change. The suites are difficult to come by on Disney property.

Seven days and counting :cool1:

ottawamom,

Have a GREAT vacation!!! You must be so excited.......

langin,
We booked this hotel for August too! The price was right but I'm still not positive of this trip. I have a cruise booked but may have to cancel. If that happens I'll have this ressie to fall back on!!! Either way we'll have a great time. I think a 600 sq ft suite in DTD at these prices will be hard to beat!! :wave2:

We just got back for WDW. The DoubleTree Guest Suites worked out well for our family of 5 (boys 12, 10, 8). The rooms worked out really well for us. The boys took the bedroom and we used the sofa bed. The boys room had nice down duvets and very comfortable mattresses. Our mattress hadn't been changed since the renovation but it wasn't too bad. Unlike previous reports the room did not have a musty smell (I have a very sensitive nose). The room had been freshly wallpapered. The airconditioning worked well but it does blow directly onto the bed. We ended up turning it off at night. We got a deal through Mousesavers and had breakfast included. The service at the restaurant was quick we were in and out each day in about 20-30 min. We used the DTD transportation and it was also quite efficient. Two of the hotels on the route were still closed so I'm not sure how it will be during the summer. The buses were on time and they ran every 30 minutes. Two buses per day to the water parks (one in the morning and one in the afternoon, pick-ups afternoon and at park closing). The pool was closed during part of our stay but it was nice when we used it. We were the only ones there most of the time. It was early May though and not really what some might consider to be swimming weather. Overall I would recommend the hotel. We will definitely consider staying here again.

Thanks for remembering to post ottawamom :flower:

Glad you enjoyed yourselves. How far was it from the hotel to Downtown Disney? Is it an easy walk if you don't want to take the bus?

I would think it is a 10-15 minute walk. If you're tired we just hopped on the first bus we saw and got off at the Gosvenor hotel ( 5 min walk from there). Coming back we walked once and the other time we caught the bus at the Hilton and took it back to the hotel (rain was threatening). They do run a bus to DTD after 6:00 but we never managed to figure out where it picked up at DTD so we didn't take it.

I ask bc. from past experience I know that "continental" breakfasts can vary a great deal from hotel to hotel.

The breakfast was OK. Cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, bagels etc. When I compare it to the breakfasts I eat at home (in our house) I would say it was better than average. When I compare it to other restaurants it was Ok but the price was right. There was quite a selection of fresh fruit. The yogurt looked a little runny for my taste. The croissant were a little doughy, not crisp and flakey. If you can deal with that, which I did quite happily, I'd say go for it. The full continental breakfast had waffles, eggs(scrambled) bacon, sausage, pancakes, homefries etc. The bacon had a different taste than I'm accustomed to, the eggs were a bit dry, the waffle a bit doughy but it was all edible. My kids ate everything they could get their hands on each day and the service was good. Overall I guess I would give it an average to slightly above average rating.

Which is the one that was included with the deal through Mousesavers-- the one with cereal, fruit and bagels or the one with the eggs, bacon, etc?

If you had to pay extra for the eggs, bacon, pancakes, how much extra was it?
Sorry to be a pain, but I'm trying to sort out the details so we can best decide where to stay.

The Mousesavers deal included the cold items breakfast (cereal, breads, fruit). We got coupons for each day of our stay but they forgot to give us one for our seventh night so my husband went to the front desk and they gave him a full breakfast coupon for our last day ( hot items). The server said we could upgrade to the hot breakfast ($7/day I think) if we chose but we usually don't eat a hot breakfast everyday so we didn't bother. You could fill yourself up quite nicely on the cold items. Hope this helps.

Thanks ottawamom!
We only want the continental brkfst......something we can eat while we get ready in the room...... gotta get to the parks early!

BTW- we've been to Ottawa twice while vacationing in Canada. Lovely city and a beautiful country you have there!
