Hey everyone:

My wife and I are going down in September and staying at the Double Tree at the entrance to Universal. Does anyone have any opinions about this hotel? We usually stay at Disney but this time we are doing Univeral/Seaworld instead of Disney.

We are staying from 9/21-9/25 and with hotel and tickets and air the total price is $720. The hotel is $59/night.

We have not been down to Universal in over 5 years.. I'm pretty excited about going again and I think I got a nice deal on the trip..

Any thoughts are appreciated..

Kevin

I will be at the Doubletree the exact 4 nights as you.

We got a similar deal for my family of 4 from Chicago, Tickets, air and hotel $1020.
Check out the threads on the Entertainment Book "Meal and Movie Deal" coupons and you could be eating free every night of your trip as well, we will be.
It would have cost us as much to have driven to Wisconsin Dells for the same Days, if not more.

Expedia has nice pictures of the hotel. 360 degree views.

It's our first time to Universal, can't wait!

See you in the Lobby!

We did a package there in '02 when it was a Hyatt. Hotel was clean, rooms were comfy. At that time it was more geared to business travelers but still convenient to the parks.

Its gotta be nice, the Double Tree here in my home town is awesome, and it sounds like you got a heck of a deal on that $59 a night is a great price, where did you find that deal????????????

We stayed there last May, and it was a great hotel. It is directly across the street from Universal but not close enough to walk there. We were lucky enough to get facing the park from the 12th floor which was nice.
Enjoy your stay

Hello:

The deal for $59/night is listed under the orlando section of travelzoo
Enjoy!

Thanks Agent K, that is such a good deal on such a great spot, that may make me re-evaluate my planning. M

I have to disagree about the Doubletree being too far to walk to US/Ioa. We stayed there last summer with two children under 5 and made the walk daily pushing strollers. It's about 20 minutes. About 5 minutes into the walk, you walk past the parking entrance where you park if you drove. When we walked out we'd zip right by the traffic jam at the light leaving the parking decks. I saw dozens of folks walking each day. When we stayed at RPR and chose to walk instead of wait on the boat, the walk was about the same, maybe a little shorter. We are pretty fit, but I saw many walking who didn't look very fit at all. popcorn::

Yeah, it's one of the closest offsite hotels to the parks. The walk is 10 minutes across Kirkman road, and then you're in the parking garage. Here, I'll show you.

Anyway, the DoubleTree seems to be the quiet hotel in the area. They don't get many reviews. It's like the hidden thing sitting right there next to the park.
If people say it's good then go for it.

Stayed here about 12 times now over the last 6 years. Last time was last October. Always loved the place for the location to Universal and always got the price at about $60 per night which is a bargain. The hotel has been pretty much fully refurbished and the new rooms are fantastic. I would also agree that you can easily walk to the parks it is probably just over a mile to the end of the moving walkways as you enter Citywalk so not too bad. Becareful crossing Kirkman as its a bit worrying the first couple of times you do it but watch the lights and you will be ok. If you miss the walk light it can be about 6 or 7 minutes before it comes round again though.
There is a free shuttle bus if you want, we normally only used this on a night to get to Citywalk but only if the time fitted in with the plans.
Only other thing I would suggest is to join the HiltonHonors program as you get free parking (not that i have seen anyone charged) and you also get a free newspaper each day (USA Today).
