I have always stayed at HRH but just couldnt afford it this time along with the Premiere Celebration pakage so booked the Doubletree hotel. I would appreciate any and all feedback from anyone who has stayed there before. How close is it to IOA/Universal? Is it within walking distance? Are the rooms okay? I guess I would just like some reassurance that I didnt make a big mistake.

If you happen to be talking about the doubletree at the entrance of universal, I happened to think it was not bad. The rooms were very nice, and I really liked the view. (we were upgraded to a universal view for free). Our room did not have fridge and that happened to be the biggest downfall of our entire stay.

Trust me I usually stay on property at universal and disney, so I have sort of high standards. I read reviews and i thought the room was going to be a giant dump. In the end it turned out to be a really good stay!

Hope that helps!

Trip was July 2011!

We stayed at the Double Tree at the Entrance to Universal (I'll assume that's the one you are talking about), and really liked it. It's not as fancy as the onsite hotels, but it's a lot cheaper. The room was a good size and confortable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There are a couple of dining options in the hotel, a Starbucks, a bar, a sit down resturant and a quick server cafe area. And let's not forget the free cookies at check in!

We never walked to the parks but it didn't appear to be that long a walk. The hotel is litteraly across the street from the park complex entrance, but it's probably a 10 minute walk past the parking areas to get to the entrance of city walk. There is a free shuttle bus that runs to the park but it only runs a limited number of times (couple in the morning couple in the afternoon) and it has limited space so you need to be sure you get passes the night before from the information desk in the hotel. There are also always cabs on stand by which will cost you $5 with tip.

We stayed there in Dec. 08. Obviously, it's been awhile, so hopefully it hasn't gone downhill, but we liked it. The room was clean and large. The service was great. We did have a refridgerator in our room which was nice. They did charge extra for parking and using the in-room safe.
We walked to the parks every day. It took us about 15-20 minutes (including walking through CityWalk) to get to the park entrance gates. The hardest part is crossing the major highway in front of the hotel. It's about 8 lanes and can be heavy traffic during rush hour. Make sure you use the crosswalk. The rest of the walk is fine.
I would stay there again (if we couldn't stay on-site :thumbsup2).
Hope you have a great trip.

I stayed there for a day once, it was a very nice hotel i must say i like it better than Portifino BAY. We were put on the sixteenth floor, so it had a great view. It is only about a mile away for IoA and Universal so not that far.:cool1:

I've heard very good reviews of the hotel. I don't think you would be disappointed.

I have only heard good things about Doubletree. The only thing that I heard people complain about was that you have to pay to park there. The Holiday Inn right there behind Doubletree does not charge.

I stayed there for a week in Sept 08 and it was excellent!! Nice walk to Universal and their food court was pretty good as well.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I know we will have a great time. Its just hard giving up staying onsite after the last several years. Sounds like the Doubletree is very conveniently located and I appreciate the reviews.
