Has anyone stayed at the Double Tree hotel at the entrance to Universal? I know its a "sister" hotel, but is it worth the savings? I've always stayed on the resort. I am trying to pull together a short vacation during Memorial Day weekend..

Thanks!!

For me, no. I have stayed at the Double Tree many times when I'm come in at night and just need some place cheap before my onsite stay starts. I really like the DT and the location is great. You can walk to the parks from there but to me a Universal trip has to include staying at one of their hotels.

A big part of the experience for my family are the Universal hotels. We have stayed at all three and fotl, having an easy walk to the parks and just the feel of being onsite is a requirement for us to go to Universal. If my family had to choose between going but staying offsite and not going, we would choose not going. Of course that is just us but it tells you how much the onsite hotels are what we consider a part of a Universal vacation. Many disagree with that.

I agree.

Lots of people stay at the Doubletree though. If you can swing staying onsite, it is worth it.

While I love staying onsite sometimes our budget doesn't allow us to and this year is the same and we will be staying at the bestwestern plus universal which is right up from The Doubletree and we have stayed at the Doubletree several times and while it is nothing fancy it is a nice clean hotel and we never had a bad stay there and while most say splurge to stay onsite sometimes some of us are on tight budgets and can't stay onsite but if you can afford it then I am like the others go for staying onsite
But The Doubletree is a nice hotel and you can't go wrong with staying there :thumbsup2

You can always get an AP and enjoy rates almost as low as the DTU. If we're running short on funds, I usually book at 1 day at RPR with my AP discount and the rest of our trip at DTU(good hotel, great cookies at check-in) or the Holiday Inn. This gives us 2 days of express pass at a fraction of the cost.

Have a great trip, whatever you decide.:goodvibes

Since it'll be a short vacation just remember you'll be spending more time at the parks than the hotel.

I never stood onsite but loved Doubletree. The hotel is great- very comfortable rooms and professional people working there.
:dance3::dance3:
They have a section at the back of the hotel with the pool, it's a courtyard with tables and several small food restaurants.

We now never stay offsite. If we cannot afford onsite we save up and postpone the trip to afford it. But on the other hand we live rather close to the parks so we visit the parks a lot.:thumbsup2

We just booked flights. We get in at midnight and our stay at Universal starts the next day. I was thinking of booking this hotel.
My plan is to check in late (1:00 or 1:30 am!) and sleep in, and then call a taxi to move over to RPR. Since we won't be enjoying the hotel amenities and literally just sleeping I want something close and clean to move to RPR.
Sounds like the Doubletree fits the bill. I can get an AP rate of 185 at RPR for our extra night but it seems like a waste if we aren't getting in until after midnight.

I can't find the Doubletree for less than 135 for that night. I don't know if the shuffle is worth it for a 50 dollar savings. Might as well go straight to RPR.
I guess I'll call and see if they can add a night to my reservation with the APH rate.
