Double stroller Question

Can anyone recommend a double stroller that can hold over 110 lbs.? My DD is currently about 65 lbs. and my DS is about 45 lbs. Both are tall for their age. They appear pretty thin too, but apparently have heavy bones. :lmao:

I don't really want to buy a stroller as it will only be used by us in Disney, but the swap dates/weight capacity don't appear to be working for us. Maybe if someone is in the same boat as me, we can split the cost.

Wow, that's a really good question. I hope someone has some good advice.

I looked, and 100 lbs was the highest capacity I could find (you probably already knew that though):

You could consider one of the sit & stand combos. They genearlly have a capacity for the sit portion of 45ish lbs and the bigger one could stand (weight capacity not listed). You said your kids are tall, though, so they may have a really hard time fitting in a stroller designed for toddlers.

Are you going to be the only adult pushing? If not, it may be easier to get two single strollers (or even one single if the kids would take turns).

I am assuming you are going to Disneyworld, so you could do a length of stay rental of a double stroller. At $27/day that adds up quickly though. If you're doing Disneyland, I would definately do the free stroller rental with the Disney Visa card. DD was 49" when we were there and she fit with plenty of room in their rental stroller.

Thanks for looking.

There are a couple with 110 - 150 capacity. I guess what I was looking for was someone who used the Baby Jogger City Mini or the Maclaren Doubles with bigger kids and didn't have a problem. I contacted Orlando Stroller Rentals and a Baby's Best Friend to see if they were planning on adding the higher weight capacity strollers to their rentals. Maybe if others in my situation contact them with similar requests, they will add one or two to their rental equipment.

I don't know what your dates are but I am in a Maclaren Twin Triumph swap and it has summer openings. The stroller is rated for 110#. We liked it because our 5yr old is tall and when we had a jogger type last time he couldn't really sit up straight, with the Maclaren he is comfortably able to. Just an idea, check it out if you'd like. Good Luck!!:cool1:

Thanks! I checked the dates, but someone already has it reserved for my time.

I've used just about every double out there one time or another (I have an obsession with strollers, I admit it).

I can't see pushing more than 80lbs of child (single or double) in any stroller with small wheels like a Maclaren. I have a Mac single and love it but it's a bear to push on rough surfaces with my 50lb 4 year old as the wheels are small. For him, I have the Baby Jogger City (not the City Mini) and thanks to the air-filled larger wheels I can push it with one finger. As the size of the child goes up, the size of the wheels has to go up or you're going to get tired and cranky pushing that much weight around.

If you really need a double for two bigger kids, the BJ City Mini would work but in all honesty I'd seriously consider two BJ City Classics (each with a weight limit of 75lbs.) or two City Minis (weight limit of 50lbs) or a mix of both if you have two adults to push and if renting two singles is in your budget. I had posted the specs of the City Classic on another thread for someone who wanted to know if their tall child would fit and I think I remember it has a butt-to-canopy height of 22 or 24 inches. So when your child is sitting, measure from the surface of what he's sitting on to the top of his head to see how he'd fit.

You can find the specs of the City Mini here under "Let's Go Strolling stroller specs" to get an idea of how your kids would fit, but keep in mind that if you exceed the weight limit you risk damaging the stroller. Granted they're sturdy enough that it would probably take some significant weight to damage them as opposed to the 10lbs or so you're talking about, but it's something to keep in mind.

If your kids will fit and you're willing to push that much weight, the City Mini is an awesome stroller. But it would be easier for the adults and the kids would have more wiggle room if you could swing two City Classic singles.

I don't know of any place near WDW that rents full-size jogging doubles that have higher weight capacities. Worst case, you could just rent a Disney double stroller and see how you like it. :goodvibes

Thank you all for your input. Shannon from Orlando Strollers wrote back. She said she would love to find a higher weight capacity stroller as she is totally aware that there is a market for that type of rental. However, the one made by Baby Jogger is too big and wouldn't be allowed in the park. :( I don't know ... I am thinking about renting 1 City Classic (?) with the 75 lb weight requirement. I'll cross my fingers that my kids don't want to ride in there at the same time. LOL
