hi! I need a double stroller for disney. I had a tandem one and hated it, it was sooo heavy. I'd like a lightweight side by side that fits through doors, easy to steer (I'm going myself) has shades over the girls, possibly reclining seats, and maybe storage underneath? I'm also looking for something not too expensive since we will most likely only use it hear, oh it has to fit a 42" 5 year old too? Does anything like this exist lol. I would just rent one at disney but I'd like one for the week beforehand when we are at sea world and with my grandparents, plus renting per day might cost near as much as just buying one! thanks

Last time we went to Disney, our kids were 1 & 2 and I took our side by side. It was a bit of a pain trying to get it through shops or crowds since it was so wide. This time our kids will be 2, 3 and 4. Since the 4 year old doesn't usually want to be in a stroller, we got a sit and stand stroller. The 2 year old can sit in the front and the 3 and 4 year olds can take turns riding in the back. It's very lightweight and easier to maneuver. It's much easier to use by myself than the side by side was. Just my opinion!

I've never used a stroller for a 3 or 5 yr old - they never needed one, do just fine! We've gone many times (me alone with them) and we take things a little at a time and go back to the resort for some R&R - never a complaint from either. They've been happy as clams :)

Are you really sure you'll need a stroller?

yes you will need a stroller. the kids are still young and need to sit time to time and if its crowded- by golly you want them right there were you cane see them. Mine are 4 and 2 1/2 and I bought this one in July for our trip there. I used it again in sept and saw more and more of these strollers. they are great- lightweight and easy to maneuver- much easier than when I had to use my tandem or my double jogging stroller. I sometimes go by myself and this one is hands down the easiest! even dh said the same thing when we used it in July over the 4th when it is so crowded. I really only use it now for going to disney or the zoo- somewhere were there will be alot of walking.

here it is and its $10 off right now

I've used a double side by side umbrella stroller for the past 5 trips, since 2000. I have never had any problems manuvering it in WDW whatsoever!

The one I currently have is the Kolcraft.

I got mine at Target for $50. They also carried it at Babies R Us. Because it's so reasonable, you don't get all those extras like baskets but it's a bargain.

Here's another reasonable one by InStep. It's a little more expensive but looks great.

Then I've seen many with little ones with the Graco DuoRider side by side but it's always been too pricey for me...I'd definitely buy it if I had twins. Here's a website with free shipping but it's still $129: Graco DuoRider

I recently ordered a double, side-by-side umbrella stroller from Burlington Coat Factory on-line. The stroller is by Schwinn and is perfect for my 1-year-old and 4-year-old. It is very sturdy, yet not overly heavy. It also steers great. I can quite easily steer it with one hand, which I can't say for my single umbrella stroller.

The best part about this stroller was the cost. I was able to buy it for $89.99 plus shipping and handling. Definitly worth it for us. It took approximately 3 weeks to arrive, as they need to import it, so order early.

Best of luck on your stroller shopping. Please let me know if I can tell you anything more about the stroller. I am attempting to paste the webpage for the Schwinn stroller below.

I did a bunch of stroller comparisons before picking one to bring my sons in. They are 2½ and 4 and are both tall (my 2½ year old is 38½" and my 4 year old is 44"). We had a Graco front/back double that was great when they were smaller but it's a monster when it's folded and VERY heavy. It's too hard to steer now with all that weight so I sold it. We also have a sit and stand and took that on our first trip. It did OK but my 4 year old wasn't thrilled that if he wanted to sit, he had to sit facing backwards and it was a problem if the little one (21 months at the time) wanted to nap and I reclined him, then his older brother couldn't sit, he had to stand. It wasn't too bad on that trip b/c it was DH and I with my parents so between DH and my Dad, he was up on their shoulders a lot. :) When DH and I went on our own with them this spring we took a Graco side by side that I got at a yard sale for less that $10 and it did great! They were both comfy in it, it wasn't too wide to fit through doors and down aisles. I had no trouble getting it through crowds although we go early and are headed out before it gets really crowded and are back after our few hour break. My oldest's head hit the top of the canopy but didn't prevent it from being extended over them. It did bother him though. Also, if my oldest wanted to recline (happened a few times, he even napped once), his head sort of hangs off the back so he was forced to hold it at an odd angle.

The Graco side by side fell apart after that trip so I was picking a new one before our upcoming trip. I am taking them alone and we are meeting 2 of my girlfriends and their kids there (one is sharing our room also with her kids and no DH and the other will be there with her kids and her DH). Since I'm going alone with them I want a double b/c I want to be able to strap them both in if need be! ;) I did an extensive search to find the right one. I ruled out the Graco side by side b/c of the canopy hitting DS 4s head (he's now 6 months older and taller too). We tried the Jeep umbrella one and even DS 2 was tall enough that if he let his feet slip off of the strap footrest, he was kicking the wheels. DS 4s feet could drag the ground. The canopy is also pretty small on that one. I narrowed it down to either an Inglesina Twin Swift(sells for $199) or a Chicco Citta Twin ($140) and decided on the Citta Twin just because my oldest won't be stroller size for much longer so why spend more than I have to. Both of these strollers are umbrella folding so they are compact when folded (the Graco side by side folds flat but still wide), both have TALL reclining seats (DS 4s head doesn't hang off) and independent hoods so one can be covered and the other open...no fighing over that. :) They are also HOODS rather than canopys so they are domed giving more head room and better sun coverage. You can also sort of adjust the height of the hood. The leg rests extend to make the seat a little deeper which prevented DS 4s feet from dragging or kicking the wheels. It also makes a nice long reclined seat for my 2 year old if he wants to nap. :) The Inglesina has GREAT resale value. The Chicco is a new model but a "used only a few times" one sold not long ago on eBay for $125 so I figured I'll take good care of it, use it for what we need it for then sell it.

The Chicco also comes with a custom fit rain cover for no additional cost. It has nice wide seats too. My 2½ year old can even sit with his knees up in a sort of "criss cross applesauce" position with one knee up and be very comfy. I can post a pic of them in it if you'd like. They both like it and are very comfortable in it. It's easy to push and steer with them in it and on the mall trips and at a birthday party at a local zoo, I've had no problems fitting through any doors or anything. I got it when BabyAge.com had a 10% off sale and $3.95 shipping so it was like $127. I'd like to have found something cheaper but I didn't want to have problems with DS 4 being mad about the canopy hitting his head and not wanting to leave it out to cover his sleeping brother or have DS 2 kicking the wheels all day.

wow, lollipop mom I think i have your situation to the tee!! although everyone else's suggestions are great, i have the same problems with the height thing, since she's 42' now most likely around 43" when we go, and she's 38lbs so weight is a factor in a lot of these strollers. I love the idea of the adjustable leg rests! Lollipop mom I'd love it if you write me a pm after you've used this for your trip to let me know for sure how its works! I'm going myself also so a stroller is a must since it'd be impossible to carry everything plus the little one most likely and keep a close eye on the bigger one!! Thanks so much!!! everyone's points were great and I will take them all into consideration!!

Sure, be glad to! :)

I can't wait till I don't have to worry about these things anymore.

When we went in July with a 2-year old boy and a 5-year old girl. We took one cosco umberella stroller and Graco light-weight stroller. our son like to sleep in the stroller and reclining graco stroller was good for him and he loved it. Our 5-year old daughter some times like to walk and other times likes to sit in the stroller. When she is not sitting we used the stroller to put our bugs. I took one stroller and my DH took another. We never had any problems in the disney bus. We also put colorful ribbons on top of the stroller so that we can identify very easily.

here's another suggestion- this is what we plan to do this year -- we have done it at zoos and malls here.

we take our 2 umbrella strollers with us -- (chicco london's).
we usually each push one.
HOWEVER... we bought the umbrella stroller connectors so that 1 person can push both strollers at 1 time if need be. It does make the strollers a little bit wide. But, for the amount of times that 1 of us will be pushing both kids ... it is worth it!

we have a graco duoglider and took that to wdw last year. it worked fine -- however it is so big getting on and off buses, trains, etc.
hope that helps!!

I just ordered the Schwin stroller akghutton mentioned. I ordered mine from strollers4less.com for $99.54 and shipping is free right now so that is all I paid. They said the reg price was $119. I have a duoglider but didn't want to fight this beast on the buses and stuff so I bought yet another stroller. We have a 7 yr old, 3 yr old, 22 mo. old and a 8 mo. old so we have lots of years of strollers ahead of us so I hope I like it.

with our Jeep double stroller my daughter is 42 inches and doesnt have a problem at all sitting in it. Our son who is 2 1/2 had no problems reclining in it and sleeping either. I do miss the storage area but like that this is so lightweight and easy to get around the park in crowds.

thanks everyone!! although being i'm with them myself most of the time my grandparents are only going to magic kingdom to visit with us the rest of the parks i'm solo. so I need a single stroller to fit them both! But that other one Disney_1derland
mentioned seems nice too and cheaper! Now how do I compare them? I like the fact the others have such a resale value too! hmmm what to do I'd be interested in hearing from both of you with a pm after your trip. THANK YOU
Becky

i just noticed that the avalon one only holds up to 30lbs on each side?? Paige is 37-38 now and will most likely be another lb bigger when we go?
Becky

and they told me 30 lbs is their 'tested' weight for a child but it also 'tested' for up to 10 pounds of stuff in the basket so 40 pounds per side is what they say if you call. She also said that they test it at 30% less than what it is able to hold. We've been using ours for 6 months with a 37 pounder in one side and a 30 pounder in the other and it is WONDERFUL. Easy to push, easy to steer and a dream to fold and carry. I can carry this stroller and my two year old with no problems which I consider to be quite a feat. For the price it is an amazing stroller.

It probably does not have quite the re-sell the others do BUT....I have seen practically broken Cosco's go for more than I paid for this one so I guess that overall the double stroller market is a hot one!

We are going Nov 4-13, I'll let you know what we think!

Now I have to say I've used the Schwinn one linked on here. Just a 2 weeks ago I took my neice and nephew (3 months and 2 yrs) to the mall. I couldn't get this thing in the door-- had to have both doors open- so I had to have help-- couldn't do it myself. Also, I couldn't fit it up the main walking aisles at Sear's!! The main aisles where they sometimes set up small displays in the center-- the thing was just to wide. I didn't enjoy it one bit. My sister just got it and she said the same thing. She said it's really hard to take anywhere that may be space limited. The other thing both my DH and her's agreed upon is it's pretty flimsy. She ordered online and isn't the least bit happy w/ it. Just adding.

I have 5yo twin girls. First trip we brought our double with us, lst year we rented. RENTING is the way to go. When you leave the park, take your card and just pick up another at another park. No folding, carrying etc.

the Avalon is not too wide for a standard doorway, that's one of the big reasons we chose it. Now, I can see it being a pain in a crowded gift shop where the walkways are not wide, but at the mall we've never had a problem getting it in and out of the major stores.

And no, I'm not an Avalon salesperson, just one very happy customer who spent 7 months trying to find the right stroller and we are VERY happy!
