My 5 year old son is having Double Inguinal Hernia surgery tomorrow morning! :sad1: I just got the call to be at the hospital at 6:15 am  and now it's hitting home. I am getting nervous (and scared)! Anyone have any experience with this with their son? Any tips? Any words of advice?? Thanks!

My son had inguinal hernia surgery when he was 3 month old. Everything went without a hitch and was back home the following day. The doctor kept him overnight since he was a premature baby. If it was not for that, he would have gone home that afternoon...

I'll throw some Pixie dust your way just in case..... :wizard:

Good to hear!!! They say my son will be going home the same day. Thanks for the pixie dust!!!!

My son had this surgery when he was about 2 years old. He went home within a few hours of the surgery...and felt fine!

My dd had a hernia repaired-it was harder on me than her. She was fine-I was a basket case LOL.

my nephew had hernia surgery when he was 6 and my sister said the same thing... went home the same day & no problems. "uncomfortable" for a few days & then sensitive for a while longer, but he did FINE... my sister on the other hand still has to see a counsler about it... JUST JOKING

neither of my boys (so far) have had hernia surgery, however my oldest when he was 4 had an emergency apdempticy (I know I spelled it wrong.. it's the appendix removal) and he spent a week in the hospital as it burst as the surgeon was removing it. overall he did fine though! I on the other hand, am still scarred by that. ugh. I don't like someone cutting on my baby...

Good Luck & let us know how all goes. Thanks

My DS had the same surgery at age 5 and everything went fine. It was definitely much more traumatic for me than him. He came out of the anesthesia crying, which was sad for me-he was actually lucid enough to say he didn't know why he was crying, but he couldn't stop. I held him in the recovery room while he calmed down and slept a bit. Then they had him eat a popsicle I think, before he could go home. Once at home, he was almost good as new right away.

Good luck!

You are too funny!! I will probably need to see a shrink!!! Yeah, this is the first major thing (other than the 2 weeks he spent in the NICU when he was born) that he's had.....it's scary! I don't want anything to happen to him! (I am VERY over protective)!! I don't like it, but I am!

Thank you all for all your words, they are very comforting and I AM feeling better about it! ;)

Yeah, I am worried about him crying too....that's gonna kill me! They only let 1 parent in the recovery room right after....maybe I SHOULDN'T beg my husband for it to be me!!! Nah, that might make me worse off! He's a tough kid and I am sure he will be fine (if I keep telling myself that, I might just believe it)!!!!

My 7 year old son is having umbillical hernia surgery on Friday. Glad to hear someone else is, well, nervous :)

Praying for you (and your son) for a safe surgery on Friday! Will leave an updated tomorrow as to how mine went! (I am also glad I am not the only one "nervous")! :)

The surgery went well and my son is recovering fine! :woohoo: I have to keep reminding him that he just had surgery and he has to be calm and take it easy!!! The hard part is that he can't play outside at recess time at daycare for 2 weeks! YIKES!! Not sure how that's going to go over!! I want to thank you all for your comforting words, prayers and well wishes! :worship:

Glad all went well! You are right the hard part is keeping them still AFTER. I looked at the DR like he was nuts when he said that.

So glad your son is doing so well. Our surgery was today. DS is a little sore, and really should be taking a nap, but he's too busy eating ice cream and watching movies. He keeps moving too fast and then realizes what he's done. Keeping him down all day tomorrow is not going to be fun :)

Two of my boys had them. One very young and one at age 18. The younger one was so easy. When they get older they are worse patients. It still wasn't that bad.
Good luck! You and he will be fine!
