Double, Double, Toil & Trouble: a Halloween-inspired trip of “two’s” – an October 2016 TR

Hmmm....that is good to know! We'll maybe have to consider making the weekdays our primary park days and use those first couple of weekend days as resort days (or for other activities) :thumbsup2. Steve is already vying for another visit to Capone's so those early closure days would be the perfect opportunity.

We are ABSOLUTELY up for a Dismeet dinner or breakfast! We plan to dine at Toothsome in May, and also hope to get to the NBC Sports Grill (which will be a new one for us). And Margaritaville too! We'd also be in for a breakfast if that works better for you. I will confirm our dates soon and we can start making plans.

Anyone else happen to be planning for that same time period??

We're planning on getting Universal passes this year (kinda waiting to see if the water park is included) but as a local we could easily show up any weekend.

Silly question about the sealife aquarium, do they have cuttlefish? I adore them, and Seaworld has replaced that exhibit with shrimp, so I'd love to find another place.

Just curious how long you spent in the Sea Life area? We were considering this attraction but were wondering how big it was. Also hoping we might have good luck like you and find it nearly empty!

I don't often post on trip reports, but I enjoy reading yours. My family loves Medieval Times. The show, the food, etc. I have often wondered about the Pirates show, but it looks like we would be disappointed and should just stick to Medieval Times (although we just go to the one in GA and not wait for a FL vacation).

Hmmmm.....not sure about the cuttlefish, to be honest. I asked Steve if he remembered seeing them specifically and he's not 100% certain either. Hopefully maybe someone else reading along (who has also paid a visit to Sea Life) will know for sure and chime in with the answer.
Is that cast member photo bombing :rotfl2:

LOL, yes indeed he was :D. Gave us a good laugh when we scrolled through our pictures later that evening .

Well ......... perhaps Steve needed a special bandage for his errrmmm (fill in the blank) but how on earth housekeeping knew that must be a whole new story........ :hyper:

:scratchin ;)

I would say around 90 minutes or so. Longer if your kids want to spend some time in the play area, or if you take the behind the scenes tour (which is an additional $5 and runs every half hour if I remember correctly). It's definitely not huge but its great for families.

Thank you so much :goodvibes. Welcome aboard, it's great to have you posting!

We have also done Medieval Times (at the Toronto castle, several times) and Pirates does not measure up. Both the experience and the food are better at Medieval Times....and once again, the regular price is lower than Pirates. Pirates simply has to improve the overall experience and lower the price to be competitive, or I fear it will someday suffer the same fate as the long-closed Arabian Nights.

Oh, well thanks for trying to remember anyway!

Grad Bash is a special event for senior students in high school and both parks are closed to the public and open only for seniors, so you definitely want to plan around that. April 7, 21, 28 & 29, 2017 7PM - 2AM.
I'm a teacher at a high school in Jacksonville and I am going as a chaperone. We get special VIP fast passes for every ride. :smooth: Super excited! (Except the part where we get back to school at 5am :scared:

I just finished reading all your wonderful updates, glad you enjoyed the MNSSHP and the dessert party. The pirate dinner show looks like a fun time as well, sorry the VIP experience was not as good as it could have been and the food should be a highlight when it is a dinner show. The Orlando eye area looks really nice with all the different attractions.

Alright, I'm up to speed now. Soooooo much good material but unfortunately I just don't have the time to pick it all out. I may have lied when I said you left me in the dust 5 or 6 pages back. It was only 3 BUT IT FEELS LIKE 6!!!!!!

The towel sculpture......it need no explanations, we all know what it is. Didn't know WCP was 'that' kind of place.
If you get your turtles, get two of them and name them Sam and Ella.

Thanks for that great info. The only day that might impact us would be the Sunday, but we'll just plan for that to be an early park day and do something fun for dinner. I wonder if they are taking reservations for Toothsome yet? :scratchin I will bet it will be PACKED that weekend after the park closes to the public.

Steve wants to go back to the Skeletons Museum at the Eye complex in May. We visited it once during the first few weeks it was open, and they were still putting the finishing touches on some of the exhibits. Since we've done the Eye 3 times, Sea Life twice, and Tussauds twice, Skeletons would be our next repeat. We might try and combine that with a meal at either the Shake Shack or Sugar Factory :).

Wait up guys!!!!! I go and do some adulting this week and you all skip ahead 5 or 6 pages.

check out my ticker......Tink is almost in the castle :jumping1:

So.....do share the details of your trip! Which parks do you plan to visit? What ADR's have you made? You know we expect a photo or two while you're there, right?

OMG, I am such an idiot :o. I was just going to ask to sam and ella are. And then I realized.....salmonella......I am such a dunce sometimes .

Ok does anyone else want some more details on this????

Have a great trip @dancin Disney style! I'm counting on you to warm it up for us - we get there on the 16th!

Heck ya! I do! :p

Tuesday, October 18th (continued)

After finishing up at Sea Life, we headed over to the entrance to Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. If the empty line out front was any indication, we suspected the inside might be as quiet and crowd-free as Sea Life had been.

We had a bit of an issue with our tickets here: the young man didn’t want to allow us to utilize the old ticket that had been purchased for May, despite us also having the printed email authorization from Merlin customer service to extend the ticket validity indefinitely. It took a bit of assertiveness :rolleyes2 on my part for him to grudgingly permit us admittance. Steve was more than a little annoyed by the time we finally made our way through the turnstiles and into the attraction.

Not much had changed since our first visit there in December 2015, but it definitely was quieter this time around so we had lots of time to spend taking tons of pictures with all the incredibly realistic wax figures. We started off in the Florida everglades room, where Steve caught a ride on an airboat:

14908294_10155139872976416_6308519455490640698_n.jpg

We moved on to the area which features an assortment of prominent individuals who made their mark on American history. There was, among others, Uncle Sam……. “I want YOU!”:

14910530_10155139873631416_5228026538654825812_n.jpg

Abraham Lincoln…. “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years”:

14908295_10155139873661416_2453138262519320970_n.jpg

Barack Obama…. “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”:

14600956_10155139873666416_310624012433020741_n.jpg

Martin Luther King … “I have a dream”.

14721455_10155139873956416_4941627177790491581_n.jpg

From their, we moved onto those that changed America in other, less political way: from Walt Disney … “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible”:

14354922_10155139874156416_5143761934563549375_n.jpg

…..to the brilliant mind of Albert Einstein (who was surprisingly short. Who knew? :confused3):

14907252_10155139874056416_7873002420889991563_n.jpg

We spent some time checking out Madame Tussaud’s art studio, a place which we largely skipped on our first visit.

14915352_10155139874466416_135467257379274954_n.jpg

This was also the place where guests could have wax hands made, for an additional cost. This was probably the busiest area of the whole attraction, with several families lined up to have their own wax creations made. Personally, I find them a bit creepy …. but yet I can understand their appeal as they are definitely a very personal souvenir.

The sports area was a favourite once again for Steve, but I’m sure none of you are surprised by that. Basketball and hockey are our family’s sports of choice, so of course Steve made a beeline to the Shaq exhibit…..but tall as my big Steve is, he was dwarfed by Shaq’s likeness.

14915330_10155139875201416_2550582920955810349_n.jpg

After Shaq embarrassed him on the court, he ended up relegated to acting as Tiger Woods’ caddy .

The next section was dedicated to the biggest names in the music industry. Both current day and historical icons are represented here, everyone from Pitbull to Ricky Martin to Elvis.

Because I was feeling “Happy”, I enjoyed an extra moment or two arm-in-arm with my buddy Pharrell Williams :goodvibes.

14581530_10155139876716416_8301532084689258267_n.jpg

After the music area, we moved on to the portion of the museum dedicated to the biggest names in television. Steve sat down for a late-night interview with Jimmy Fallon:

14925298_10155139876911416_7470068280645966973_n.jpg

….while I opted to bare my soul to the amazing Oprah Winfrey. She was lookin’ rather fabulous for a 63 year old. I can only hope I age as gracefully.

14856023_10155139877131416_2397352616262498639_o.jpg

One of my favourite photo ops in the ENTIRE museum, though, had to be with Jim Parsons. Steve and I are HUGE fans of Big Bang Theory, and let’s be honest……this will be the closest that I’ll ever get to spending anytime with the incorrigible Sheldon Cooper, so there was no way I was rushing this moment. I think Steve worried that he eventually might have to pry me off of that bench. Bazinga! :teeth:

14900522_10155139878076416_8622308726812461726_n.jpg

The movie section was next. Tussaud’s has given the nod to several movies that appeal to the youngest guests, including Shrek:

14479676_10155139878566416_6412305724508172703_n.jpg

…..Jurassic Park:

……and Kung Fu Panda:

14656408_10155139878631416_116853125532190915_n.jpg

That is one of my favourite pictures of Steve on this visit to Tussaud’s. He’s such a funny guy sometimes. No inhibitions whatsoever!!

Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe were both well represented in this area.......

14611094_10155139878481416_8031838022251143251_n.jpg

as were more current celebrities among who were Tom Hanks:

14595679_10155139880331416_5119835893214415330_n.jpg

Zendaya and Selena Gomez:

14606328_10155139879206416_8663710724354093945_n.jpg

Johnny Depp (who is much skinnier than I would have ever pictured him….he needs to stop drinking so much rum and indulging in an Oreo or two):

14572876_10155139879941416_6073094955536186519_n.jpg

Samuel L. Jackson (who was SO realistic I half expected this wax figure to start speaking to us ):

14695494_10155139880856416_3462635044669178349_n.jpg

Will Smith:

14639653_10155139880906416_2837086349154801636_n.jpg

….and Brad Pitt.

14595557_10155139881146416_8518651844212630352_n.jpg

Many of the Tussaud’s displays have assorted props which allow guests to step even further into the “scene”….but for the most part, we avoided the hats and other clothing items for hygiene purposes. Neither of us are germophobes per se, but the thought of putting something on that thousands of other people have worn…..nope. Can’t do it :crazy2:.

There are many more wax statues featured in Tussaud’s that I haven’t mentioned, so this is a place you could spend quite a lot of time in…..especially if you have teenagers. It’s also a place where you can get rather slowed down on busy days, as you wait for other folks to finish their selfies (and re-take them 5 times for “just the right shot” :rolleyes1) before they move on to the next star. With the Eye complex so empty, this visit was glorious and uncrowded, and I wholeheartedly recommend visiting in the morning for the best experience ::yes::.

Next up on the agenda……lunch, of course. It was time to “shake” :hyper: things up a bit.

Still reading along!! I can't find the original post but it sounds like you've planned a May trip while I've been missing:thumbsup2.
Funnily enough we decided to cancel our May trip to Universal last night. We are all absolutely fine with the decision (made easier by the fact that we just spent a week there in October.) We just kept robbing from the big August Disney trip budget to pad the May trip to Universal (which was planned on a whim because we had enough points for free flights into FLL). Nobody was over the top excited, so we are planning a bigger, badder Disney trip and we'll go over to Volcano Bay while we are there. We're still going to take the time off and spend 4 or 5 days at the cottage for the May long weekend. Win/Win.
We just couldn't make it work the way we want with the exchange rate and I feel relieved to not be worrying about the rising cost anymore.

Your Tussaud's pictures are awesome! I also don't feel the need to go anymore because there are so many pictures I feel like I've been there:rotfl:.
I plan to go back and do a more thorough read of your updates once I finish packing and cleaning for this weekends basketball tournament :).

Love the pictures. Steve still looks mad on the airboat ride, he looks like he should have growled at the man on the entrance to let you through without any further ado! Will Smith looks so good too, that picture has caught him just right :thumbsup2

We did the Wax Museum in 2015 as well. It doesn't look like much has changed but fun to still walk thru! Glad to see that Shelly was still there! I think that was my oldest son's favorite as well!
