Double Double Disney Trouble - Two Moms of Multiples Makin' Magical Memories

Joining in!! Great updates and pix! Your food choices look so good! September is my very favorite time to go....crowds and heat are not bad! Can't wait to read more!

Oh, I am hungry now after reading your snack post. On our last trip, we didn't plan out our snacks at all. I ended up going to the gift store at the end of our trip to use up several snack credits. We won't have that problem this time! I have started making a list of available snacks, and I will have a list of the ones I want to try.

MMMMmmmmm, everyone of your snacks look wonderful!!! I would just add Mickey Ice Cream bar and a rice crispy Mickey head. Sorry, no good advice on Via Napoli vs. Tony's. :(

Yes, a Mickey bar is a definite must-do. So definite I didn't include it in my list, lol. :rotfl: Seriously, we are going to have to get the boys at least one.

As to the rice crispy Mickey head, I had not considered it as I am kind of picky about my rice crispy treats. Are they any good? Are they soft and sweet? or hard and bland? If they are like the kind you buy from Kellogg, then I will give them a try. If they are like off-brands then I might give them a pass. What do you think?

I had a friend once tell me that the difference was whether or not they used butter (instead of margarine) and if they were old (because they go stale quickly). Not sure if this is true or not.

We'll be there those days too!!! My DH and I are joining my DD (Amy), DSIL (Tim), and Cady, our 2 yr old DGD, staying at All Star Movies - Cady loves 101 Dalmations. She LOVES the commercial "Wipe, Wipe, Wipe Your Paws"!!! She also loves Sofia, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Doc McStuffins, Little Einsteins (and Barney)!

DH, Cady and I are flying in on Sept 13. DD & DSIL are driving in Sept 14. We're staying til Sept 21.

Maybe we'll see yall around!!!! Oh, my oldest daughter's name is Kristin!

:welcome:

That's cool that you are going the same week. It just gets freaky when we start sharing names. What can I say, great minds must think alike. :lmao:

They boys are crazy about all things Disney Junior. It is really different for their generation. I read an article somewhere once about how children today are the first generation to grow up with Mickey as a regular character on TV since the baby boomers. And they were talking about how it would impact Disney in the future. My gut reaction was, "that's not true, I knew who Mickey was." but then I realized, I didn't grow up with Mickey on TV. I basically saw him in a few TV specials, like Mickey's Christmas Carol (I loved that version). Don't get me wrong. I love the Mouse, but I don't think I ever responded to Mickey the way my nephews do. It is pure Disney Magic.

If you like coconut (LOVE IT!), you have to try the School bread in Norway!!! Also, when we were there in Nov/Dec, we spent a lot of our snack credits in the Big Top Circus building in Magic Kingdom (by Mickey and Minnie's house). We got Cady a Mickey cookie, and I brought back quite a few of the cake pops. (My girls love to get cake pops from Starbucks)

There are all kinds of snack foods there - you will go crazy!!! I mean, the kids will go crazy!! haha

We have ADRs for many of the same restaurants - Ohana (dinner), Garden Grill, Hollywood & Vine (lunch), Crystal Palace, Chefs de France!! With the list of restaurants that we (I) love at Disney, plus trying to fit in some new restaurants, plus all the snacks - we'd have to be eating every 3 hours!! lol

I might give the school bread a try. I have heard good things about it. I am not a CocoNUT, but my mom likes it.

I really wrestled with doing a Hollywood & Vine lunch. So let me know how that goes for you and we might do it next time. I ultimately chose breakfast because it was my favorite breakfast buffet from last trip and I have heard bad things about the food, so I figured they were talking about lunch and dinner and decided to avoid it. But this restaurant is a must with preschoolers. They love their Disney Junior. And now that Sophia is replacing Handy Manny's meet n greet this is the only way the boys will get to see Manny and the Little Einsteins.

I would enjoy a trip where all I did was eat every 3 hours. But I think the 4 year olds would mutiny. :rotfl2:

One more post - we are renting a jogging stroller from A Baby's Best Friend. They are talked about a lot on the disboards, and so I googled it and really liked that they steam clean the strollers in between uses. They do have double strollers too. My daughter didn't want to bring her big, bulky stroller down and have to fight with it on the buses, and I bought the stroller that is sold in the Disney gift shops on our last trip, but it doesn't recline. Although she really does sleep good in it, when I saw the stroller on ABBF, I talked Amy in to renting one.

On our last trip, I brought in one of her baby blankets, and when she fell asleep in the stroller, I draped the blanket over the sun viser part so it blocked even more sun. I used a clothes pin to clip it to the viser so it wouldn't blow off.

She is also renting a baby bed from them (she's bringing her own sheets though). Even though Cady is 2, she still sleeps in her baby bed and sleeps really good. On her previous two visits to Disney, she shared a bed with me or her mom and she's a kicker and moves all over, so the adult doesn't get much sleep. (and when her mommy doesn't sleep, she's very cranky! true story - lol) Cady does NOT sleep well in a pack and play.

You may want to check out abbf.com.

I think this was the site I was planning to rent from. :cool1: But we are looking at a regular double stroller as opposed to the jogging. We did a jogging for the twins last trip and it didn't have enough resistance. I know that sounds weird right. But basically, Nana was a stroller that doubles as a walker. Regular strollers do better for this than jogging.

Now the baby bed, that is something I am strongly considering. I know Disney will supply one for us. But the babies don't share a bed. And as I think I have mentioned before, Bryan is very particular. I do not know if he will sleep in a pack n play. I think I might get a bed if I can fit it in the budget.

Snacks are always good ! I love the school bread! But you should definitely try zebra domes and dole whips !

:welcome:

I love the Zebra Dome suggestion. I hadn't thought of that. And I need a good excuse to visit AKL. I love AKL. I would really like to buy points in that resort.

Dole whip, hmmm. I have never had one. Ever. I am not a big soft serve fan or pineapple fan, but maybe that is because I have never had them together :scratchin hmmm. I think my best bet is to convince someone else in my group to get one and let me try it. :thumbsup2

Those snacks look wonderful!!! And I completely agree with you about the frozen lemonades. They are a great snack when it's hot out. Super cold, tasty, and don't melt as fast as ice cream. You can enjoy those for quite a while as you wander around a park. We are big fans of those.

I may have to take a couple notes from your list. Epcot is going to be our snack around the world day, and you've got some yummy-looking items on your list! Mmmmm, salted caramel.... :thumbsup2

I hadn't really thought about it, but you are right they did last longer than the ice cream. Maybe that is why they worked so much better. They were also easier to pass around. We got one and everyone got some.

If you have any more suggestions for Epcot, I am all ears :listen: I love the idea of snacking around the world. And I don't think I have picked out enough stuff.

Joining in!! Great updates and pix! Your food choices look so good! September is my very favorite time to go....crowds and heat are not bad! Can't wait to read more!

:welcome:

Oh the heat. I thought it would be nothing in September. Oh how I was wrong. In 2008 we went in May and the weather was warm and beautiful. It was hot, but enjoyable. I thought September would be like May. Oh how wrong I was. It was sweltering. I don't know how people survive the summer. If I had my pick, I would go in May again, but September has free dining and a school vacation, so it works out the best. What is a little heat compared to free dining.

We won't have that problem this time! I have started making a list of available snacks, and I will have a list of the ones I want to try.

I think we tried to take a few snacks home last time. But that didn't go well, they melted or got smashed. :crazy2:

The whole trip, I made a point of not obsessing over the credits. I told myself to use them for anything and everything I wanted when I felt like it. And when I ran out, we would be out and that would be okay. It turns out on the last day we still had two or three left. It was good not worrying about them. But I did blow through a bunch on silly things. But that was nice. I remember going to get snacks before Fantasmic and coming back with my arms full of completely wasteful, bad for you, rubish. And it was fantastic. Then I spent a ton at Epcot at all the different countries. So my best advice is enjoy them and don't let value or saving them for certain things hamper your enjoyment of them.

Thank you all so much for reading along. I genuinely love the comments, so keep them coming!

THE TRANSPORTATION

I know, I know, try to contain your excitement for this thrilling post. Well, maybe not thrilling, but essential, there isn't a trip if we don't get down there.

The Transportation to Disney: 2 Priuses or Prii (not sure how to make Prius plural)
We will be driving from Atlanta to Orlando in two cars. Even with the cost of gas and tolls it is still cheaper than flying. The hard part is going to be getting the luggage for 8 people (2 of which are infants) into two compact trunks. One of the Priuses is 1st generation which is about the size of a Corolla and its trunk is tiny. Luckily, the other is a 2nd generation and has a hatchback, so it holds a good bit more. But it is still going to be tight.

The drive from Atlanta to Orlando is 8 hoursish without stops. There will be stops. I am hoping to make it in under 12 hours. My stretch goal is 10, but that is a stretch.

I love road trips. Maybe because we went on the road with my dad so much as a kid, but whatever the reason I love driving places.

That being said, I am a strong Type A. So I have scheduled stops and goal times for reaching each stop as well as goal times for departing from the stops. So for me the day plays out a little like a game. I don’t know why it amuses me; I can completely see how everyone else would find it boring and unnecessarily stressful. But it gets me excited. On the other hand, I am real “meh” about the car ride home.

I am planning to leave at…3 am. Yep, for real. Call me crazy, but this is the time my husband and I came up with. He agreed to this in one of those rare moments where I got him to actually talk about the Disney Trip with me before going back to discussing irrigation (seriously he loves his job).

How did we come up with 3am? Since I am budgeting about 12 hours for the trip, the options were:

Drive through the night
Leave in the morning get there in the evening

Naturally, when you start to consider leaving in the morning, you push it earlier and earlier because the earlier you leave, the earlier you arrive. So we were talking about something like leaving at 6 in the morning and getting there about 6 at night. Now my boys go to bed between 7 and 8 every night. If we got in at 6 and they slept all day in the car then they are not going to go to bed at their usual time. In fact, we would be lucky if they were asleep by 9. I have early days planned (which is fine because they wake up early anyways), and I do not want to start the trip off with sleepy babies. So then we circled back to driving through the night. The problem with that is then my sleep schedule is off, because I am the driver. I don’t want to get to Disney and be completely jet lagged (and we never even stepped on a plane).

So that lead us to 3am. This time allows my husband and I to go to bed early (8pm) and wake up at 3am giving us 7 hours of sleep which is typical for us. The babies will wake up when we put them in their car seats, get a bottle, and go back to sleep pretty quickly because they are not use to being up at 3 am. We figure that gives us about 3 to 5 hours of them solidly sleeping. When they wake up, we are going to stop for breakfast and stretch our legs. I have allotted 2 hours (an insane amount of time for me on a road trip) for this break. This should wear them out so they don’t dislike being back in their car seats so much. Right now they can make it about 2 hours in between naps. I think they will be going a little longer than that by the time we go on the trip, but they should be happy to play in their car seats before lulling back to sleep.

We will drive for a couple of hours and then take another break to change diapers and give them a snack. This is when I figure they will start to melt down. I am only allowing 30 minutes for this stop which is just enough time to gas the car, change diapers, and reload. I think when we go to reload they are going to protest against the car seats. But we will tough through it. At this point, Disney should only be a couple of hours away.

The Transportation around Disney: Cars and Disney Transportation

Since we are staying on property we are planning to make use of the bus system. I think it will be easier in some cases (such as Magic Kingdom) than trying to drive, park, and take a tram. I know it will be easier than snapping 4 kids into car seats and then getting them back out.

However, I have dining plans at other resorts and it will be easier just to drive to those directly. So we will do whatever is most convenient.

The Transportation in the Parks: Rented Double Stroller for the Babies and Walking for the 4 year olds???

I have a double stroller for my babies, but it is the only thing that fits in the trunk. So we are going to rent rather than dragging it down there and back. That way we can have luxury items like clothes and toiletries.

I have suggested to my sister that she rent one for the 4 year olds as well…but she isn’t biting. Is this a huge mistake? Can two 4 year olds (newly 4, they turn 4 about 6 weeks before we leave) really walk the parks? :scared: I know her logic is that they never use a stroller at home so why would they need one in the parks? But when we go shopping they are also typically in a buggy. Can we rent one of those? j/k.

Seriously, should I just rent one for her, and then when we have it she will thank me for my amazing Disney Trip Planning Skillz? We are also taking the strap on baby carriers to carry the babies on us. I doubt we will wear these all day, but do you think we can wear them enough that the 4 year olds can use the stroller if necessary? I am also considering renting 2 sit or stand strollers. This would allow the 4 year olds sit if they need to, but means I am getting and therefore have to deal with two strollers. If my sister were going to do a stroller for sure, then yeah, it would probably be better than 2 double strollers. I just don’t know what to do. There are not a lot of companies renting the sit and stands either. I could get a glider for the 4 year olds, but I don’t know if gliding is the same and getting to actually sit down.

Given the budget, I don’t think I can afford to do much more than rent the cheapest double stroller I can find. At a minimum, I am looking for one that fully reclines. Are there any other must haves? Any veterans out there with some advice?

In our most recent conversation, I believe Keara was considering going to a local goodwill and buying a double stroller (as it could be cheaper than renting). But I think that is a lot to bet on. First they have to have it and second it has to be a good deal. And I personally, do not like the idea of taking vacation time to go shopping.

Well that raps up my Transportation thoughts. As you can see I need help with the strollers.

So as usual I am obsessing about my Disney Trip. Only 65 days to go!!!

I found an app for my phone that counts down the days until I leave. When I installed it yesterday, I was shocked to see the number 66. I had looked online at the countdown and it was at 71 just a day or so ago it felt like.

In some ways I am really glad my trip is getting close. In others, I am getting nervous. Money is tight and I am working hard to make my budget, but we aren't there yet. :scared:

Further, because of the room upgrade, my plan for saving spending money had be kaboshed. I don't want to go with empty pockets!!!

I will pull it out. I always do. I have a plan. I just need to have faith in my plan. But I am thinking I need to cancel Dine with an Imagineer and up my Sci Fi reservation from 6 to 8. Part of me is sad, but part of me feels relief at not having to come up with that money. There is always next trip.

Also, I think I am going to call the Kouzzina breakfast a miss too. I was the only one really interested in it. And it will be nice to sleep in that day. :rotfl2: <--I am laughing because my kids don't sleep in. They will be up between 6:30 and 7:30 no matter what. But maybe my DH and I can draw straws or something so that one of us can sleep in.

That takes me down to only Olivia's Breakfast, Kona Breakfast, Sci Fi Lunch, Jiko Dinner, T-Rex Dessert, and La Hacenda Appetizers for Out of Pocket. :guilty: What else can I cut? Maybe we will just eat less and really try to share.

And for those of you out there wondering why I like the dining plan, this is it. Otherwise, I would be doing this about all our dining selections.

Speaking of Dining...

My mom is really upset about me taking Liberty Tree Tavern off the menu. So I am trying to find a way to put it back on. Right now I have a lunch ADR on our departure day. I had left that park selection open, so we could revisit whatever park we felt the need to. Every time, I try to plan our last park we always end up somewhere unexpected. And I don't want mom to miss a favorite.

Here is currently how our two planned MK days work out:

MK Day 1: 7:30am Kona, 11:00 Be Our Guest, 4ish a light dinner at a QS, 8:30 Ohana

MK Day 2: Breakfast in room, 11:30 Crystal Palace, 4:50 Tony's Town Square

Mom is interested in the Pot Roast at LTT, so it has to be Lunch. If I put it in for Crystal Palace, then I need to move Crystal Palace to ???

My current thought is I could move LTT to Lunch on Day 2, Crystal Palace to Dinner on Day to, and Tony's Town Square to light dinner spot on Day 1.

So that squeezes :crowded: it in. Well, actually what is getting squeezed is Tony's Town Square, but that's okay...I think...I really am trying to get good with it...

Now I just have to see if the all the ADRs required to make this shift possible are available.

Oh, and I am pretty sure Via Napoli is getting cut.

Wow I have a laundry list of reservation work to be done.

Update Sci Fi from 6 to 8 people.
Cancel Dine with an Imagineer
Cancel Via Napoli
Cancel Kouzzina's
Move Tony's Town Square
Move Crystal Palace
Reserve Liberty Tree Tavern

Whew, I better get busy.

I would probably make a breakfast ADR for Crystal Palace, then move Tony's a little later, and fit LTT in for lunch.

Woh, that transportation post.... I had forgotten how it felt to travel (by car) with two littles. All the planning and packing and breaks for diapering and feeding..... and then, still, not knowing how it's all going to work out in the end... :scared1: You are a rockin, brave momma!
I'm sending you lots and lots of pixie dust that the boys enjoy the ride and don't get fussy and you have a painless drive to the World! :thumbsup2

Hmmm, the stroller issue. That's a tough one. I think I'd let your sister have her way. Honestly, the worst that could happen is her little guys poop out and she has to rent a Disney stroller. If it happens every day, well, tough lesson learned for your sis.

But, she may only need one on a day or two. My son walked the parks for 10 days when he was newly five. A little older, but not a huge difference. He did great. Only one night did he fall asleep on dad while we were waiting for the fireworks and couldn't wake back up - so dad carried him to the buses, for the (standing) ride back to Pop Century, and then back to our room.

Granted, that would be a lot tougher with two kids, but with four/five adults, and if it's only a day or two that they get so exhausted, you could make it work. And one double stroller will make navigating the crowds a lot easier the rest of the time. I think it's worth a shot. Just make sure she's open to renting in a pinch. There's no point in making everyone miserable over $30 (or whatever a double stroller is nowadays :faint:).

I can't suggest much when it comes to the Epcot snacks, we tried snacking around the world for the first time on our last trip, so haven't had a chance to try a lot (sushi in Japan, éclair and mousse in France). But, I'll be sure to include a review after our trip, or pass along any highlights we come across. Only 8 more days! :cool1:

Good Luck working out your reservations. I don't envy you trying to come up with the perfect meal plan for that many people. We have a difficult time agreeing on where we want to go and there's only the four of us. :lmao:

I really like this suggestion. Thank you so much. I can't just add it to the MK Day 2 because we are taking advantage of EMMHs that morning. So I will have to replace Kona breakfast on MK Day 1. But I can move Kona breakfast to the Kouzzina breakfast slot that I was considering canceling anyways. Yeah, Kona isn't as convenient to Epcot as it is to MK, but we can arrive late that morning since we are only doing World Showcase anyways.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. You are a genius! :wizard:

Now lets hope my luck holds out and the necessary ADRs are all still available. But this way I just need a lunch LTT and a breakfast Crystal Palace and a breakfast Kona. The Crystal Palace breakfast will be the hardest as I need that first thing in the morning.

Thanks, I need all the help I can get. The few day trips we have taken to Tennessee, the boys have cried the last half of the way home. So I don't expect going to Disney to be too different. They just give out of thier car seats.

I like this approach. A little bit of tough love. The cost of a Disney Stroller though makes me :faint: There are four adults going, one per kid. But we can manage. I am more worried with having the option of strapping them down, than I am with them falling alseep.

Only 8 days! Wow that is just around the corner. I a cannot wait for you TR. Universal is going to be such a suprise and such a welcomed releife after a tent at fort wilderness in the summer.

Are the kids driving you nuts asking for hints yet?

lol, we really only have 4 people too. The 4 year olds and babies don't get a vote. But it is four adults who have made a monetary investment and want to get what they want out of the experience. And of course we try to consider the kids. Otherwise, I think all 4 adults would prefer Yak and Yeti to Tusker House. But the boys love Daisy. :lmao:

Poor Babies and poor you! I really hope it goes better this time. They are getting older, maybe they'll be a bit more interested in their toys this time. Or maybe you could try some cartoons on a kindle or something to draw their attention off the carseats. Good luck!

Ahhh, I didn't consider that particular issue. I was thinking more of the whining, "I'm tired," "Carry Me" type issues. If you've got a runner, I'd go with the stroller all the way. Losing a little guy at Disney World would freak me out!!!

Only 8 days! Wow that is just around the corner. I a cannot wait for you TR. Universal is going to be such a suprise and such a welcomed releife after a tent at fort wilderness in the summer.

They are definitely trying to figure it out, especially now that Matt is constantly talking about the trip. He told Em it was a 14 hour drive (it's more like 16) and she was trying to estimate the mileage based on interstate speeds. She had a pretty good estimate going, until I foiled her by reminding her that some locations include long highway drives (like when we visit my sister in Destin, there's two hours of highway driving at the end that takes for-freaking-ever). She had to expand her circle of possibilities then. Ha!
Either she's a really good actress or I've been worrying about nothing. She sure seems to be clueless now. Or maybe Matt's game-playing is giving her doubts...
We'll see.

But we all seem to put the kids first. If they're happy, everybody is happy. Well, look at it this way, you've got years and years ahead of you to try some of the places you are missing this time around. (It just sucks waiting for it....)

My DD is 4, and she is to the point that she doesn't want me to take the stroller when we go out to places like the zoo, but I take it anyway. I'm always glad I do. Most of the time she is walking, but when she wants a snack she'll ride in it (that way we can keep moving). And by the end of the day, she tends to ride more. I like your idea of renting one double stroller and also having the baby carriers. If the 4yo get tired, they can take a break in the stroller while the baby/babies are worn. I would think they will want to do less walking each subsequent day. If that happens, you could rent a Disney stroller. But do that as needed. I doubt you'd need it for the whole trip.

Oh, one more thing. As a caveat, I must say I haven't used a double stroller before. But I highly recommend the Baby Jogger Citi Mini (it comes as a double too). That is what we took on our last trip. It has an incredibly easy fold, which is nice when you are getting on the bus. It also fully reclines, and the sun shade is huge. It also steers very well. So I think those are the things you should consider: recline, fold, steerability, shade. If you can, go to someplace like babies r us and try out the models that are available to rent. That will give you a better idea of what you want/need.

We were at Kmart yesterday and they had their athletic shoes buy one, get one free!!! My daughter bought Cady a pair of Doc McStuffin and a pair of Sofia light up tennis shoes!

They also had Cars and Jake and the Neverland Pirates for boys.

Just in case the boys needed new shoes for the trip!!!

But we all seem to put the kids first. If they're happy, everybody is happy. Well, look at it this way, you've got years and years ahead of you to try some of the places you are missing this time around. (It just sucks waiting for it....)

I think you have her stumped. That is awesome!!! You are going to have such a great time. You are in the single digits now, right?

I like the suggestion about taking something to distract them. I will talk to my family. Keara has a DVD player that straps on the back of the seat. If she doesn't use it for her kids we might use it for ours. Bryan LOVES cartoons. I feel like a bad mom when I let my 9 month old watch tv, but it really calms him down. And when I have to bathe the other one and get them ready for bed, it is a life saver. My husband has "approved" educational :teacher: programing that they are permitted to watch. Whatever, makes him feel better. But every now and then I watch Sophia the First (hey, what can I say I think it is cute :confused3). And Bryan will stop what he is doing and watch with me. :happytv:

As far as strapping down the 4yos... They are definately a flight risk. Keara does pretty good with letting them have a little freedom to walk around and they are good about holding hands when they are told to, and if there was one I wouldn't be so worried. But there are two and even when you have more adults it is confusing. It isn't like you can just assign one adult to each child, they look just alike, and when they are running around you cannot tell them apart instantly. You have to stop and think. And that split second can cost ya. But I do think it is possible to get by with one stroller. I also think I can order one from some place other than disney once we get down there if it looks like we need it after the first day. We might have to wait a day, but someone will have a stroller we can rent for the remainder of our trip for less than Disney.

That is good to hear. I think the babies are going to get worn quite a bit. I have been trying to go to the mall or RV shopping (lots of walking in the heat) on the weekends. It seems when they are on us, they last longer than in their stroller. I guess it is because they can see more? But I have also started walking daily (getting in shape for the vacation), and are enjoying that. I tend to walk at the end of the day when they are getting whiny and tired and they settle down and enjoy the stroll, so I take that as a good sign.

I like the idea of going to Babies R Us and trying them out. I am leaning towards renting from A Baby's Best Friend because they are the best price I have found. They have both the regular citi mini double and the jogging citi mini double. We disliked the boy's jogging stroller last trip, so we were considering a regular. But to be honest, I am not sure I "know" the difference. The Big Wheel on the jogging stroller was a pain when trying to move it around. And my mother complained that it moved too easily, it didn't really 'support' the person pushing it. Which would make sense if you were actually jogging, you wouldn't want the "Shopping with a buggy" effect (they say when you shop with a buggy you don't burn as many calories because you use the buggy for support).

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! :hyper:

I really hope they are still on sale.

We buy most of our clothes second hand (my mother would die if she knew I was putting this up on the internet). But shoes are some of the hardest things to buy second hand. So good shoe sales are AWESOME!!!

:offtopic: We buy most of the kids clothes from Children's consignment sales. There are several in our area. Since we like for the twins to match, we get the twin clothes from Multiples Club's Consignment Sale. Consignment Sales happen twice a year (spring and fall). Fall Sales will be starting up in August!!! I am so excited. I am hoping to find some Disney Treasures to take on our trip. Right now I am at 5 Disney outfits and I really need 10.

GROCERIES

As I mentioned earlier, I do not want to go shopping on arrival day. That leaves me to deal with the tricky groceries. We don’t need a lot because of the dining plan, but I am going to have to have milk, formula, baby food, baby snacks, diapers, breakfast items, water bottles and gallons of water.

Now, I could just bring stuff from home. But as I have already said, trunk real estate is at a premium. And things like milk won’t travel well. However, rather than buying milk at the resort for my children I am considering boxed milk??? Has anyone tried this? It could make the trip.

But the 4 year olds drink A LOT of milk. And they will need at least a couple gallons. Which leads to the next issue…

Refrigerator real estate.

I am assuming we have a standard size mini fridge. And we will basically be able to get about 1 gallon of milk in there along with a few bottles of water. Will a pitcher of tea also fit? Or maybe a second gallon of milk?

Is anyone familiar with the Tea at Landscape of Flavors? I am asking, because my husband and I drink a lot of it. And we don’t do well with anything other than fresh brewed. So we will need to bring a Tea Maker and get a couple gallons of water and tea to make our own if it isn’t fresh brewed. Maybe we should just bring a water filter pitcher and stick to water.

So now that shopping list is really growing.

I think I am going to take advantage of Garden Grocer for whatever we chose to not pack. So I guess I need to get a packing list started next…

Oh my! I just looked up diapers on Garden Grocer :faint: I think a Wal-Mart run is now a definate.

I tried boxed milk once, and I didn't like it at all. I've never tried it for my kids though. Not sure if they would drink it.

If you're going to do a grocery run for diapers anyway, why not do one Walmart run and be done? Maybe you could send your DH while yall are unpacking everything??? (Just a suggestion - I could never send my DH to get baby things; he'd never get the right things and he'd wind up spending way too much money buying things that weren't on the list - lol)

IF yall are going to go to Walmart, how about getting one of those styrofoam ice chests (they're usually pretty cheap) and then getting a couple of gallons of milk. You can ice it up with ice from the ice machines. You can leave the ice chest behind at the end of the week.

The little refrigerators are kinda small, but really hold a decent amount. A friend of my brother's, who was at Disney same time as us, brought me a HUGE bottle of apple juice for my DGD (Cady). We also had 2 of her bottles in the frig. We ate a few of our meals at the food court, and since you get a drink with your meal, and we had a mug for our soft drinks, my mom and I would get a milk to bring back to the room. And the dining plan includes the larger milk (I think its the 16 oz bottle). So we always had a few of those in the frig, along with that huge apple juice.

If you did the styrofoam chest, you could fit tea in the frig (or in the ice chest).

After thinking it through, we are going to do one Wal-mart run at the begining of the trip. I was trying to avoid it, because for me, every minute of vacation counts. But we have the car, so it isn't terribly inconvenient.

I could never trust my husband with buying baby items. :rotfl2: He would come back with all the wrong stuff. :sad2:

But since we are doing a trip, it will be a pretty big trip. So I figure I will leave my DH to unpack and watch the babies, while the rest of us go to Wal-Mart.

Given how much milk the 4 year olds drink, we might have to visit again during the middle of the trip. I have a half day break in the middle of the trip for things like laundry and a 2nd wal-mart run.

PACKING

I promise the fun stuff is coming. Just bear with me a little longer.

This is my least favorite part of any trip. But with Trunk space at a premium, I am going to have to pack very very carefully.

Let’s start with who I am packing for. I am going to assume that Aaron and I will take care of our children and ourselves and get the hatchback trunk. As well as a small overflow from the other trunk. Keara, Nana, and the four year olds will take the smaller trunk. (Remember we are taking 2 Prius(s) still don’t know how to make it plural. One is a second generation with a hatch back. The other is a first generation and has a body a lot like a corolla or any other compact sedan. So little itty bitty compact trunk and big hatch back.

This plan makes me a little nervous because Nana can’t pack light, and I am afraid she will pack a huge bag and take up all the trunk space. But I will leave them to sort that out. If we cannot fit everything into the two trunks, Keara will end up driving her Taurus instead. And while the trunk is bigger, it is not as fuel efficient and doesn’t need the miles. So we really need to fit in the two trunks.

Aaron and I will pack light. We traditionally fit in one suitcase with one toiletry bag. We are not bad at all. And since I cut out all the Signature meals basically, I am not going to pack anything other than what I plan to wear at the parks. So our bags look something like this:

Our Suitcase
5 T-Shirts for me
5 T-Shirts for him
5 Capris for me
5 Shorts for him
9 pairs socks for me
9 pairs socks for him
9 underwear for me
9 underwear for him
5 bras for me
1 pair of flip flops for me
1 pair of sandals for him
1 swim suit for me
1 set of trunks for him
4 sets of pjs each
Disposable ponchos
1 to 2 umbrellas
Laptop with HDMI cable for TV
Vinylmations & Pins
Phone charger

We will wear hats and sneakers down, so they will not be packed.

Toiletries Bag
I think this is self explanatory

Baby Luggage
16 carefully selected outfits
4 back up outfits
2 back up hats
2 Mickey Swim outfits (pictured in a previous post including little shoes and hats)
2 extra sets of trunks
2 plastic swim diapers
10 swim diapers
16 sets of pjs
10 Over night diapers
4 to 6 blankets
1 large blanket to double as play mat
1 large light, breathable blanket to cover stroller
Clothes pins to pin blanket to stroller (thank you Magic2000 for the tip)
2 to 4 bed toys/plush
Assortment of stroller toys
Sound Machine
Portable Sound Machine
20 regular diapers
2 packages of wipes
6 8oz ready-made formula bottles
Stroller Tethers (to attach bottles and toys to the stroller, otherwise my kids throw things on the ground when I am not looking)
2 Baby carriers (lets you carry them on your body)
Diaper ointment
Vaseline
Baby Shampoo
Baby Sunscreen max SPF
2 pool floats for babies
Pack n Play (they do not share a bed, I need to get a picture of Alex crawling over Bryan to share. But yeah, we had to give up on the shared bed pretty early on. Alex would not be still and Bryan hates to be disturbed. It just didn’t work. My nephews shared a bed until they were over 1 year old though). I am also considering renting a bed from A Baby’s Best Friend. I am very nervous about Bryan sleeping in a Pack n Play. I don’t think Alex will have a problem and I will put him in the one included from Disney.

Kitchen Stuff
4 to 6 Sippy Cups (mom says they still might not be in these yet. So if not I will just bring some more bottles, they don’t do well with them right now)
8 to 10 bottles
Water Pitcher with Filter
4 baby pouch spoons
6 baby spoons
4 boxes of Baby Mums (organic not available at Walmart so I will bring from home)
2 spill proof snack cups

Touring Bag/Baby Bag
Phone
2 bottles of water
Vinylmation
8 diapers
4 bottles
6 bottles of ready-made formula
6 pouches of food
2 pouch spoons
2 baby spoons
6 packages of Baby Mums
Yogurt drops or puffs – baby snack items
2 changes of clothes
4 bibs
1 pk of wipes

I think the diapers chinch it. I will need about 130 for the trip. If I try to bring them from home they will take up too much space. I looked into ordering them from Garden Grocer and Luvs is .25/diaper. I can do a lot better than that at Wal-mart. I typically buy in bulk from a local warehouse club and only pay .15/diaper. Walmart isn’t that cheap, but it isn’t more than .20/diaper. So a Wal-mart trip day 1 looks like a must.  So in addition to the packing list, here is a shopping list.

Shopping List
110+ Diapers
24 8oz ready-made formula bottles
1 to 2 boxes of formula
Milk
Baby Food
Baby Snacks
Bottled Water
Breakfast items
Gallons of Water (if no water pitcher)

Originally, I was thinking I would go ahead and try to move my children to milk as they will be just a week or so shy of 1 year. However, upon reflection, I am worried about them eating on this trip. When we are feeding them out in restaurants, there are a lot of distractions for us and them. I usually just don’t feed them as much baby food and offer them baby snacks. Which is fine, because they still get a lot of their nutrition from the formula and we get 3 big baby food meals a day. So if one is a little light it is no big deal. However, at Disney, all our meals will be on the go, so I don’t think that is the point to move them to milk. Better to just carry formula. I use the ready-made stuff when we are out anyways. So it is no big deal.

I also need to find a breathable blanket large enough to cover the stroller. Any tips???

I don’t really put shoes on the babies. However, that is because neither can walk right now. Alex has started crawling with his stomach off the ground and pulling up in the last few weeks or so. So I believe he may be able to walk by the trip. But not well enough that he will need much more than the little Mickey shoes. Bryan still pulls himself around on his stomach and cannot get up to a sitting position on his own. So he is much further away from walking.

On a side note: Bryan can now say “Hi” “Mama” and “Dada” and “Ba hu” which we believe is his attempt at Brother. He also chatters constantly and “sings”. Meanwhile, Alex is as silent as a stone. So I am constantly telling Nana we are going to go to Disney World and 1 is going to be talking and the other walking.

After talking to Nana, I am strongly considering a laundry day. I still want 8 separate outfits for the boys. But the adults can repeat. Also, I really don’t want to bring 8 capris, I don’t think I own that many. And it would allow me to repeat shorts and pjs for the boys as well. Does anyone know anything about laundry at AoA? How much does it cost?

Just now reading your PTR and your plans and packing lists look great! Both sets of twins are adorable and I hope you have a magical trip!

Hi! Just joining in... I'm really excited to stumble on your report. I'm just beginning to plan a November trip for my twins (they will be 15 months then). Things I am agonizing about: diapers, stroller, naps, and feeding them! I'm hoping to learn a few tips from you.

Other random thoughts: I, too, don't get the obsession over Illuminations. It's so lame!

Also, Mickey Rice Krispie treats are my all-time favorite. I love to buy them at the Main Street Confectionery (did this get changed to the new Starbucks, though?). At the old bakery, anyway, they used to make them fresh every day. We were married at the Disney Wedding Pavilion 3 years ago and I went to the bakery and ordered 50 RK treats in my wedding colors to pass out to all of my guests. Yes, I love them that much! :yay:

Have a great trip!

:welcome: Glad to have you aboard. I am also glad to see I am not the only Disney fan crazy enough to take twin babies to Disney World. Lately, everytime they get overwhelming I can't help but stop to think, "It is just going to be worse at Disney. Am I crazy?" For example, we started on stage 3 food recently and now they are eating soooo slow. As feeding time was pushing 40 minutes, I couldn't help but think, "Is this going to take even longer in Disney World when there is so much to look at?" :scratchin

Are they boys, girls or one of each?

I am not too worried about diapers, but diaper changes... that is another story. It isn't that it is hard, it is just there are two of them, you know. So there is always a handing off when changing diapers when we are out. You go, change one, come back, get the other, change them, come back, it just eats up alot of precious park time. I need a map with all the mens restrooms with changing tables so my husband can help. :lmao:

Naps are my biggest fear :scared: If I just had Alex, I would be concerned but not overly worried. Bryan has me shaking in my boots. :goodvibes That child gets tired easily and insists on things being just so. He is a thumb sucker but will only put it in his mouth and calm down if he is in his bed, with the lights off and the noise machine on. Nothing else will do. Even if Alex is unhappy, he eventually calms down, accepts where he is, and goes to sleep.

Sounds like I need to try a Mickey rice crispy treat, so I will try to get one.

A Disney wedding sound soooo nice. I wish I could have done a Disney wedding. My mother-in-law messed up my wedding, so my husband has told me we can do a big vow renewal or something in the future for one of our big anniversaries, like the 10th or 15th or something and I want to do it at Disney.
