Double dip or concierge?

First time cruising at all. I've been to WDW many, many times, but I'm ready for a relaxing, less planning Disney type of trip. I've been pricing out cruises and out of Miami, on the Disney Magic, we could do a 5 night double dip trip with two verandah rooms in the aft or a 4 night trip in one concierge verandah for almost the same price. If we did concierge, we'd probably try to get a cabana (which would add to the price). We are group of two adults and 18 year old and 5 yr old sons, all cruise newbies.

I have looked at the Wish, but I really wanted the art deco, classic cruise ship feel, if that makes sense. I'm leaning towards the double dip, just because we really like beach trips.

Thoughts?

I would go with the double dip and two rooms. Having two rooms is much more beneficial compared to having an extra area on the ship that provides additional included food. Being a double dip, there may be a chance at scoring a cabana too on one of the trips to castaway without the need of concierge.

We are Concierge regulars. In your situation - price, options, cruise experience, party composition - I would go for the double dip. The enjoyment you would get from a longer cruise with two CC stop, even without a cabana, would far surpass the benefits of sailing Concierge.

DH and I have decided we'll always do Concierge on the larger ships but for the classics (Magic and Wonder), it's not as important. The double dip in 2 cabins sounds great-more beach time, more family time!

If it was any ship other than the magic I’d pick concierge. But since it’s the magic I’d go double dip.

r.e. - bold Magic with 2 verandah cabins = 2 FULL BATHROOMS would a Concierge verandah offer 2 FULL BATHROOMS???

Another vote for the double dip. We did concierge once when the price difference between a cat 4A and cat V on the Fantasy was only about $500 and, while we enjoyed it, it is not something that is necessary for having a great cruise. The extra premium they are currently charging for a concierge room is not something we would pay for the experience, especially since we have no interest in getting a cabana at Castaway Cay. I know you said you were looking at getting 2 verandah rooms for the double dip, but booking only one verandah room for the four of you would save you a lot of money. We are now platinum and have always sailed in a single verandah room with our 3 kids and found it was more than enough space for the five of us. Bank the extra $$, and be sure to book a placeholder while you are on board as there is a really good chance this won’t be a “one and done”.

I'd go for the double dip. A seven day cruise goes by in a flash - that's our minimum length for cruising. To be fair, we've never sailed concierge, because the benefits aren't very interesting to us, and we've never felt like we were missing anything sailing regular rooms. We are very happy with the rooms, service, available food, and public spaces without paying the additional fee. I would easily pick a longer cruise over the concierge upgrade. I'd start there and then do concierge on a later cruise if you really want to try it. I assure you, you will feel very pampered and taken care of without it.

Double Dip. You could try for a Cabana, but go in open-minded to give just time at the beach a try. The island clears out by 3:30 and it is never crowded. Lots if umbrellas and loungers available. Your next cruise can be tweaked based on your experience with this one.

Where I differ is the rooms: one Verandah, one interior - across the hall. We have rarely needed everyone to be on the Verandah at once. And older brother doesn’t have to watch out for the 5 yo climbing on the railing. And saves some money. You do not get the connecting door to access the 5 yo, though.

I say this for bedding reasons; plenty of 18 yos are adult size people and would appreciate having a real bed. While the sofa with its real mattress built in the flip-forward back is a decent sleeping surface, it is also a challenge. The entire sofa is 6’, but it has hard arms that cut into that space. Anyone in the upper 5’ height will have to sleep with bent knees.

Our first Disney cruise was on the Fantasy 7 night and we did concierge We splurged only because of several big milestones we were celebrating. I'd rather do more cruises than pay for concierge.. And that's what we're doing. We're going back on the Fantasy and the end of this year and on the Wish in June 2023. I prefer cruising for as many days as possible. And I think for a first time cruiser that's important. I feel, at least, on shorter cruises that you're just getting used to it and it's time to get off. The reason we're doing the Wish is to check out the new ship, my daughter will be 18 then and I'm looking forward to spending time with her a little differently and because she loves Marvel!

For me that would be the easiest question: Double dip. Concierge is way from worth the money in my opinion. Other cruiselines charges less premium for much more product.

For 5 people I'd prefer two staterooms, so I'd choose the 5-night double dip. Cabanas are nice, but not worth squashing 5 people into one stateroom, and having a shorter cruise to boot.

Similar to this but a little nicer, is that you can select a verandah that is right next to an oceanview (window), and book those next to each other. That way both rooms would have a view, while only you would have an actual verandah.

i thought of that - and wondered if there were any connecting.

Double dip FOR SURE…I get people love concierge but I don’t see it as an alternative to doing two crusies.

This is great info for me as a never cruise before person. But what is double dip? I have been debating what level room to get and it makes me think I don’t necessarily need a concierge room. But is that just true on DCL or most cruise lines?

And what is double dip? Lol
