OK...here are some mock ups. First of all I'll post the last draft of it everyone saw:

Now here are two slightly revised versions. You will see below that I have tried to take some of the feedback offered by playing with the tone of the red a bit, changing the font at hte bottom to something that is still fun but a bit more readable, adding a double scoop of ice cream icon, playing with adding somethign into the dead space at the bottom right of the map, and also with incorporating the port names. Take a look:

So what are people's thoughts now? Let's decide what we do and do not like from each of the versions and start to bring it all together into a unified image. And would people like to see the icon with other color backgrounds? I was playing with it here and I think that a blue background is interesting...here's what that might look like with one of the versions above:

I welcome your thoughts and feedback. If we can get a decision/concensus we can get it all done by the weekend and then maybe we can create a cafepress store and people can start ordering stuff with the logo on it!

Erik, you are just AMAZING!! I really appreciate seeing the laynard view with your name, too. Very exciting....and to think we could be on target for the 1 year countdown! WOO HOO!!!

Here are my humble opinions:

• Background: The cherry red (blue-red) background is my favorite. To me, it's more pleasing on the eye & looks more like Mickey Red. To me anyways.
• Bottom Right: Adding something down there on the Mickey cheek is PERFECT! I think it made a HUGE difference! The treasure chest is a gem (haha) as it really seems to bring out the pirate ship even more (it could be a little smaller though). I realy love that idea best. With that being said, I'm not particularly fond of the striking cartoonish (and/or maybe the brighness of the color palette) appearance as it doesn't quite gel with the rustic map. However, I absolutely understand that there are limited resources. Therefore, I think the scroll itinerary would work very nicely. Have you validated that once it's reduced down to lanyard size/siggy size that the text on the scroll will be legible?
• Mickey Head Map: If we stick with the treasure chest, I'm a keeper for the island names on there. Very nice touch!!
• Ice Cream Cones: I like the double scoops!

Oh...and thanks for putting my birthday date on there! It looks soooo familar it makes me pause for a moment! More importantly, thank you SO much for taking up all your time when you're so busy to get this out to us!

I am sooo computer Anti-friendly I don't think I could be more clueless when it comes to Graphics, Clip Art and making Signs.. DS tried to show me MS Paint... what a "Dis"aster!!!

Erik, that looks awesome! I really like the treasure chest.....would it be possible to put the scroll AND the treasure chest on, (maybe a slightly smaller scroll?) because I can't pick between the two?!

Thank you so much - they look great.
I prefer the original red background under the mickey head with the scroll. (it is a choice with the lighter red now). It looks clean and classy! I love them all and would be happy with any of them but I think the treasure chest isn't exactly right.

I haven't posted for a while but I have been lurking and watching the logo designs.

Eric - What a great job you've done.

I like the blue best (my favourite colour) but I also like the darker red.
I like both the treasure chest and the scroll. If I had to choose one it would be the scroll as it is a reminder of where we've been. The treasure chest seems a little big to me.
I'm not so keen on the ice cream cones.

Erik--Wow. Great work Here is my two cents worth while I have afew minutes (we are learning that RIo has asthma--spent time in the ER and hte docotr's office and have been wanred we may well need to go back in for a breathing treatment tonight ) Thanks for giving me soemthing fun to think about in between stressing about my little guy

I like the red backgrounds best (eitehr shade)
I like the treasure chest IDEA but the actual chest looks far to cartoon like for my taste. The scroll looks fabulous. So I vote for the scroll unless you can find a much more "calssy" chest.
As you posted them, I see no need to list the ports on the map if we keep the scroll.
The double scoops of ice cream and lettering and what not look great.

Rio and Mom, DS has asthma, he uses Flovent twice a day and Albuteral if needed, he has "coughing" asthma, it gets back from now thru March, hope Rio feels better.

Here is what Dh and I like about the shirts:
We both like Red
He likes the stops on teh Mickey ears
I like the scroll but agree with NHdisneylover, would like a classier treasure chest!

WOW!! Lots of great discussion and feedback on the logos...and some good questions, too.

I did, indeed, print it out at lanyard size with the scroll...and the ports are legible. I did NOT try printing it with the names on the map itself (because, honestly, that was kind of an afterthought at the last minute...but I'm glad people like it). Now that I look at it, it's very possible that once the image gets shrunk to go in our lanyards that those port names will not be readable. I'll test it out tmw.

It sounds like the darker red is the clear winner....and honestly I printed a test in color at work and I think it looks really good printed out.

Now, Zwiehund, greedy greedy!!! I really don't think we're going to be able to get both the scroll AND the chest!!

Is the primary issue with the treasure chest the colors? Is that what makes it cartoonish? I might be able to adjust the colors on it so that they stand out less and look a little less crayola and a little more natural. I will also keep looking for another chest altogether. I didn't search THAT hard to find that one...it was just the best one i found fast...and I wanted to put something in there so that people could see what it might look like. So I'll keep looking.

My other question/reservation is about putting the ports on the logo itself...since it's not completely clear if we'll be able to go to Costa Maya. Do people have thoughts about that?

Ummm, what happens if they change the itinerary because of hurricane damage? This year's "season" isn't over yet and something could happen next year. We don't know if Costa Maya will have recovered by our cruise. Maybe we shouldn't put the names of the ports on the logo. Aside from that, I like the original red, the treasure chest idea (but not necessarily that one), I'm not sure about the ice cream cones, (not sure if they "go" with the antique map)

I think it's the idea for both....although I guess that's open for discussion, too. Based on my previous experiences with DIS cruises (although, admittedly, that has been only cruise ) is that we got shirts and lanyards (and magnets and whatever else!!) with the same basic logo so that it was easily recognizable and created a common theme. WE could really do whatever we want...that's the fun part!

This started as a "mild cold" and turned into a monster cough followed by seriosly scary rapid breathing with wheezing, etc by 3 am. He's on albuteral now and I don't even know what the other thing you mentioned is. But the doctor seemed to think this is not just going to go away with the cold (or ragweed allergy--not sure which) so I may well find out at some point. We have a follow up with the doctor Friday to see where to go and what to do once the immediate problem has settled down. So far he is doing okay (not great but not too scary) tonight. I'm sorry to know your DS (and you) has to deal with this but it is nice to know of someone I could PM with crazy questions if I get all confused later on

Erik--I honestly don't know if changing the colours on the current chest would make it better or not--I am having trouble visaulizing and would need to see it on the mock up to tell. Good point about listing the port names with the uncertainty about Costa Maya. I don't know how I feel about that (wicked helpful comment I know)

OK, more opinions on the logo:

I like the darker red better that the lighter one.....
Not sure about the ports though.......maybe just the cataway cay twice, cozumel and "??" who knows or should we just leave them off?? But I really like the scroll better than the treasure chest but I think it definitely needs something else if we are going to leave off the ports.........

Anyone have any other ideas?

First off, Hadley: to you and to Rio. Have you tried the trick with the warm humid bathroom and then cold air? I ended up sleeping in the bathroom with Fiona when she had croup. I ran the shower on straight hot for a good 10-15 minutes to get it warm and humid down to the lineoleum floor where we were curled up.

Erik: here's the family's reaction...
DH: Dark red, don't get the cones (yes, I explained them), and doesn't care for the scroll.
Fiona: Treaaaa-sure! Red! (meaning dark red)
Me: Treasure, dark red, no port names.
