Post 577 provides direction for how and what we're keeping track of!

Just returned from the 9/8/07 Western and booked this "double dipper". I'm sure this will be just as awesome as the recent cruise.

I would say welcome back, but I'm sure you would much rather be there than here! :rotfl2:

Checking in for this cruise as well - as hubby above mentioned just got back from the 7 night western which was fantastic. Had an amazing day at Castaway so this double dip was really intriguing to us. We are on deck 2 with a ocean view. Rebooking at least helped a little with the back to reality pain we are feeling :surfweb:

Well I'm so glad you had a great time and want to do it all over again with us!!

I was wondering is there is room for a few more on this thread. We just booked for 9/27/08. There is myself and my partner of 20 years. My sister and her twins (DD10) and our niece (DD 12) are also booked. I will see if I can get her to post. This will be our 6th cruise and my sister's 2nd. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Ahhhh...a very familiar poster! Hey there, Grandma4ever! Just wanted to validate that the ages of the kiddos will be their age at the time of the cruise. Sounds like you will have a great family vacation together! You also represent a new state to our cruise list!! We now have 24 states of the Union DIS-ly represented!

hi: just booked today for me and my dd8(9 on the trip) very excited did a 4 night in may and just not long enough.

Another Canadian family!!! Oh yeah....you DEFINITELY need a 7 nighter! :rotfl: Your daughter will find six other 9 yr old princesses to make friends with!

Thanks Buckeye Gal, but you are right, I would much rather be on the ship than in Texas.:rotfl:

I was feeling somewhat ill the last couple of days since leaving the ship then it dawned on me that it was just the "cruise blues".:rotfl2:

:welcome: to all the new cruisers!! Great to have ya aboard w/us! Wow, going by Kimberly's status (thanks, Kimberly!) the Disers are going to have a really big presence on the double dip. :thumbsup2

Robert Jordan died at the extremely too-young age of 58 of a rare blood disease. This is truly and horrible.

However, the thought that keeps coming to mind is the Star Wars quote, "It's as if a million voices cried out suddenly in fear and were silenced." The evil part is I keep giggling about all the people who were hooked on the Wheel of Time series... and will go unrequited, because that scam artist was never going to finish those books! I read the first book... all, what, 900 pages of it? And realized on the last 5 pages he wasn't actually finishing the book! Oh Nooooooo, I had to keep subscribing to give him money, on the vain hope that one day--ONE DAY!!!--he might condescend to finish a storyline! He was on Book TWELVE, people! He was NEVER going to finish his storylines!

To make this make sense to people who don't read his books... This would be as if JK Rowling keeled over between book 6 and 7, and you actually disliked Harry Potter hysteria.

Brandie:
Wow. When did he pass away? I know there has been concern for a while, but I had not heard anything recently. I've made it through a few of his books, but only a few. For whatever reason, I had a hard time at that point getting into them. Don't rag on him all that much......there are those of us that really enjoy the long storylines. In fact, I ususally look for a series of books to read rather than just stand-alones. (& for the individual books within the series - the bigger, the better IMHO) I've really enjoyed Terry Goodkind's series - many, many books at this point. His last book in the series is actually 3 separate ones. Oy! As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm in the midst of Katharine Kerr's series of books - on # 9 or 10 at this point & there are at least 2 more that I know of! Can ya tell I REALLY enjoy reading this genre?? :lmao:

Kimberly:
Like I said earlier, wow! Lots of folks now. Any idea of the total capacity of the ship? What percentage of the ship are we filling?
Of the folks/cabins that are sailing, do you know how many have expressed an interest in fish extenders? I want to participate w/the FE stuff, but don't want to have to take out an extra mortgage to do so. The total # participating will determine how much we can do w/the FE (hope that makes sense).
Can you refresh my memory how many 5 yr old girls there will be on the cruise? Having trouble keeping track......

OH! Look, I'm at post #100!! :cheer2:

Robert Jordan passed away September 16, 2007. :sad1:

Well, I like Tolkien, the original DragonLance series, Asimov's Foundation, David Geddings, MZB (and the books written with her son), and long storylines, but I like books that wrap up at the end. Anne McCaffrey (at the end) was hacking me off because she no longer -ended- a book. Denouement is not optional, in my opinion. Books that read like a soap opera or an on-going comic book annoy me (no matter what genre). In addition, Robert Jordan was on his 12th book and thought he "might" be able to wrap up the series in a "book or two." :headache: Ok, maybe I should admit... Waiting on an author to release the next book is as annoying for me as watching paint dry. Sherrilyn Kenyon spoiled me with releasing so many books quickly, but now she's just re-releasing the stories with new covers.

Congrats on your posts!

Brandie

Welcome to all our new cruisers! This list is, indeed, growing. I'm working on some logo edits using the stuff Drea sent me....hopefully I'll have a draft later this week to put up quickly for feedback. Based on the feedback we had before, it seems like we like the mickeyhead treasure map and we want to keep it pretty basic...so I was envisioning perhaps putting the mickey head in the center as the focal point...on a colored background (what color do we prefer?). Then beef it up by perhaps putting a red "x marks the spot" on the center island, imprinting a more colorful ship onto the map, and altering the points plotted on the map a little so that they stand out a bit more and maybe even change the course so that it all goes in one direction (right now it's created so it looks like 3 different ships would all converge on one point from 3 different directions) and it simulates making two stops in one place.

I'll hopefully have an image to play with later today.

(and thanks to Hadley for my "boo")

OK here are some VERY ROUGH DRAFTS bringing together some of the ideas we generated. Just to remind everyone...here is the mickey image that Drea found first. This is the image that many people seemed to liek best so we decided to use it as the foundation for our logo:
mickeyheadtreausremapoutlined-1.jpg

Here is a rough draft of what I've been working on so that we might do to make it work as a logo:
lanyard.jpg

This is a very rough image. I know it's pixelized a bit but before I start working on creating a super clean detailed image, i want to make sure I'm editing the final image....and not an endless series of drafts.

You can see some of the changes I made to image and outlined in my post above:
1.) I put boat in the image that is a little more colorful and fun (which, giving credit where credit is due, is also an image that Drea sent me and I did some editing and modifying with).
2.) I also changed the "route" on the map. Now the whole route follows the same direction and is created in a bolder color so it stands out more. I also changed the route itself to kind of hit at our itinerary (in a very loose interpretation since the boat is coming from south even though we'd come from the north ;) ). The path stops at "Castaway" (the large center island that I marked with a red X) then does two other land stops before going back to Castaway and then sailing off into the sunset. :thumbsup2
3.) I made the X red to stand out.

I also chose in this to go with ice cream cone graphics that kind of match the text...but I'm open to feedback on whether we'd rather go with more realistic ice creams or colorful images instead.

I intentionally left space under the mickey head because on the lanyards I want space to put people's names for their nametags. As a file to use as a tshirt or in our signatures online here I can close that gap so there isn't any blank space.

So what are people's thoughts?
Do the ice cream graphics work for people?
What do we want to add?
What do we want to delete?
Do the fonts work?
Do we like the layout with no printing over the actual map image? Or woudl we rather overlay some of it as in past incarnations?
What color should the background be? (I made it a lime-ish green b/c that is, supposedly, the official DIS color and because we were planning on buying green lanyards).
Is this TOO basic? (We said we wanted to make it less detailed but I don't want it to look so simple that people don't like it).

I anxiously await your input as we get it pulled together.

The only criticism I can come up with is that the right Mickey ear lost some curve between edit one and edit two.

I'd be proud to wear it, even if it is lime green! *grin* :thumbsup2

It gives us room for the names (as you said) and also is interesting enough to hold your eye, without running afoul of trademark issues.

Good eye! :) Yeah that ear cut off is one of the things that in final editing I have to fix (like the pixelizing of the font at the top of the image). I was just too lazy to do it for this draft :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ok, what about changing the bottom text to Andy or Showcard Gothic or Tristan, in order to make it a bit more legible? I like Waltograph, but when it is squished like it needs to be there, it loses a little distinctiveness.

:duck:

Brandie

OK I lied....I figured out a way to more easily make small edits as we go...so here is the draft of the logo with cleaned up fonts a bit and with the ear fixed....further comments/input? (of course if anyone doesn't like this new logo format at all....I will not be offended if you say "Scrap it and let's start over").

Hmm....oddly enough it's not waltograph font at the bottom, it's a font called "You Are What you Eat" :lmao: :lmao:

I am definitely open to changing the font at the bottom....unfortunatley I don't have any of hte 3 fonts you mentioned :sad2: I am somewhat limited fontwise because I am having to work on this stuff using my work desktop computer (my home computer is an apple laptop and I don't have any of the software in it that woudl be necessary to do this kind of stuff). I can try to play with some other fonts and post them and we can decide which font we like best of the fonts I have available.

Never mind the font post--I can read the bottom line just fine from this image. :confused3

Thanks, Erik! :thumbsup2

Hey Erik, I like it! The stylized map of our itenerary is great. I also like this ship graphic much better (go Drea for finding all these graphics). So, this is totally out there and NOT what we have previously talked about AT ALL so everyone feel free to dismiss the comment, but I think a RED background (or red shirt then as the case would be) would be nice and help draw attention to and tie in with the red X which marks Castaway Cay.

Grandma4ever--Welcome. I have seen a number of your posts on the main board. I nearly always like what you have to say and HOW you say it. It will be a pleasure to have you join us:thumbsup2

Kimberly--I am always amazed at how quickly you gather together stats for everyone. It is always so much fun to read those:)

Well, we went dance shoe shopping today so I am now officially broke! Rio needed new jazz and ballet shoes and I needed character shoes :sad2: . At least Rio still fits his taps as those are the really pricey ones.

I can email them, if you'd like them, too. I think it is right-click, install Font.

That font name is still cracking me up. "You are what you eat"....

Unfortunately I do not have permission/clearance to install files and fonts on my work computer....so we will have to work with the fonts I have (I do have lots of fonts, just not the ones you named). Or maybe we don't need to do anything wiht it since you said in the second edit that it reads easier.

I started playing with a red background....the issue would be that the lettering and the ice cream cones do not stand out as well against a darker color background like red.....so if we went with a darker color like a red or a primary blue we would probably have to have it be white lettering. I'll try to work on creating a file like that as a sample adn see what it looks like.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone working on the Logo's. Everything's really looking great. I've been a little quiet on the boards but i am reading everything and really like what our logo's developed into :)

*twinkling eyes* But you look purty! *grin* What type of shoes are "character shoes"?

Jazz are soft-soled shoes like what Gregory Hines wore in "White Nights", right? And Mikhail... oh, lovely Mikhail... *drool*

Brandie

OK....I did a mock-up taking Hadley's suggestion about a red background. Here it goes:

lanyardwhitetext.jpg

So we have two options here....we could create the logo using a light colored background and black text/cones (like the original) or we could choose a dark background color with white text/cones (like this edit)....of course then we also have every color under the rainbow basically to use...and I might even be able to play with effects like a pattern or a fading effect or something.
