"Double Dip Delight" 09.27.2008 - Chapter 4!

Hi guys....some bad luck here I was in a nasty car accident tonight. One good thing is I was on the way to work so the kids weren't in the car. It was a hit & run..this is the second hit & run I've been involved in...(and I'm not the one running!)
Funny thing is (or not) that I probably would have got the ticket since I hit them (at over 50 MPH no less)..but they were APPARENTLY just stopped in the road we think with no lights on. Don't know why I didn't see them, as I wasn't distracted, I was just cruisin' Anyway all I know is allof a sudden there was something in front of me and BAM! No time to react.

I am not hurt bad, a little sore and some airbag burn. I have an ugly contusion on my stomach from the steering wheel but I wan't planning on wearing a bikini on the cruise anyway so that doesn't matter.
My car ('08 Altima) is probably totaled. The whole engine compartment was just accordioned in.

The craziest thing was when I finally got out of the car (there was so much smoke and airbag dust I thought the car was on fire!) I collaped into the median....and nobody was around. Not a soul. Not the people I hit, no other cars on the road (and this is a BUSY 6-lane highway!)..it was like the twilight zone. The cops asked me if I just hit an invisible brick wall. Heh. Funny. I did not get cited for the accident at least.
I venture to guess the mystery vehicle or thing I hit contained any combination of the following 1. Illegal Immigrant(s), 2. drunk(s), and/or 3. felons with a warrant. Most likely #2. Hopefully nobody was hurt.

SOOOO..that really puts a wrench in our preparations, only having one vehicle now. Our work schedules don't overlap but I had some appointments this week (like my hair) that I'll probably have to cancel now. (Course I can *always* have my hair done onboard ). Plus the $500 deductible really cuts into our spending money, dangit!

I'm just really glad I had changed my mind last minute and decided to NOT bring the FE gifts with me tonight to finish, they would have been ALL OVER the road...rolling around....

Everybody, be safe out there! We only have 7 more days...let's all have no more DRAMA!

Those of you with 10-11 year olds....

Are you letting them check themselves out of the kids clubs?

We are letting Brendan check himself in & out this time...he is 8 (will be 9 in Oct.) He is a really responsible kid, so I am confident he will be fine and we have very strict rules about where he will go when he does. He knows we will revoke this privelege if we need to. And quickly.

I wonder what that splash area they are putting in will be like? Is that meant for babies/toddlers or ?

Yes, it's for babies/toddlers. I was actually kindof hoping they'd keep the Mickey Ear, so I could stand in the pool and hold Sarah over the edge into the ear, now we will just be sitting ont he ground in the new area. Here is what it looks like on the Wonder:

That date is on our short list too. That dang Oasis cruise is messing up all of our plans. I guess the whole Baltic thing on DCL in '10 made desicions easier for us though. Maybe in '10 we will take our long awaited Disneyland trip instead of a cruise.....

Tonight I get to sleep like a normal person.... "night all.

Oh my goodness - I am so glad you are okay - but it stinks that you will be sore and have drama with your car. Was it raining? That really, really stinks!

No, it wasn't raining.
Conditions were clear, there was no (other) traffic on the road... I wasn't on the phone or playing with the radio or anything. I never saw these people, I don't even know what kind of vehicle it was. All of the HC sheriffs and FHP canvassing the area looking for them, but they were GONE.
I probably had about 15 cops, plus paramedics and firefighters (two engines) out there at the height of it! All that for lil ol me!

Also, I'm still unsure as if we can or can not carry-on liquor (eg.bottled beer). on the ship.

Hello everyone! Not sure if I need to introduce myself, I suppose the screen name gives it away. Chris has been trying to convince me to post for awhile now. I created an account weeks ago but am just now getting around to posting. I have kept up somewhat with trying to read but I am always too tired to start posting after catching up on this chatty bunch.

Things have been very busy around here with both girls starting school, their numerous activities, finishing FE gifts and of course trying to keep Chris in line.
I am definitely ready for this vacation. Guess I should start packing

I don't think we are on the Treasure Map. I hope Chris hasn't scared you all so much that you will be afraid to visit our FE. I wouldn't mind but the girls would be disappointed. There is no reason to fear. Since neither Chris or I are crafty in the sewing area we outsourced the creation of our FE. So no products used in our FE came from our home or more specifically from Chris's "drawers"
We have a really awesome looking FE made by Tiffany (Thank you so much Tiffany, it is better than we had even hoped).

So great to finally "meet" the woman strong enough to take on FatCat!!! I'm sure you have even more stories than he does!!!! Looking forward to meeting both of you and your family.

So I spent (with Alex, aka Medical Disaster Boy) another night in the ER. Apparently his drain was a little prematurely removed, and he's draining through the hole. He also had a 102.5 F fever this evening, and the uro on call said, "take him to the ER".So off I trotted (in my own car,thankfully, power steering now repaired, but now we have that pesky "check engine" light- time for a new van, I think).

A new prescription for antibiotics later (since they couldn't find anything wrong with him besides the obvious), we're home. Stopped at the 24 hour pharmacy. Pharmacist says he never dispensed the antibiotic in question in his career. I better call around tomorrow.

So one more trip to see his doctor (who I like less and less each time we have contact), and then by hook or by crook, I'm herding those kidlings onto the 6:55 AM Southwest flight on Wednesday. Of course they only gave me a 10 day script for the new medication.

Have a great trip all that are leaving!

If there's a total screw up and we can't make it, I'll email the Palo brunch info to a few people and maybe someone will take it over.

I am sorry for any glitches getting the maps out to everyone - my computer was a disaster yesterday. Plus, with so many spam controls, I think a lot of emails we send just get sucked into the netherword.

I think my other email addy is the problem. So, here's the map rundown:

1. If you had a problem with all or part of the map and have PMed me, emailed me or posted here - I probably did not get the message. Please resend your email addy to me at the above email addy.

2. If you were not on the map, you were not sent a map.

3. I can't add anyone to the map.

4. When we first discussed doing the map, it was decided that only those who chose to be on the map would get the map. I do not spend enough time on the boards to be familiar with everyone - so I am not comfortable emailing out maps with people's information to people with whom I've not had previous contact. I hope you all understand. If others who have been reading and posting here are comfortable giving the map out to fellow posters I haven't "met" yet, it's fine with me.

5. I will do my darndest to get copies out. I will have extra copies with me for those who have already left for the world. It's a GREAT idea for anyone who is not on the map but participating with the F/E to print out deck maps off disneycruiseline dot com and highlight all the staterooms.

6. For anyone who posted on the boards that they wanted to be included and weren't, I am sorry. I asked everyone to email me, because I absolutely knew I would not have time to keep up with all you chatterboxes.

OMG!!! I'm so glad that except for some bumps and bruises (and probably alot of soreness today and tomorrow) that you are okay. Very weird!!

Several years ago my Mom had a similar type accident. She was going that fast but she came around a corner and suddenly there was a car stopped right in the lane (one a four lane highway). She hit him but not that hard. They were actually test driving a car from a car lot around the corner. There was so little damage that they actually sold the car to someone else the next day. However, the two guys test driving the car apparently checked out the address my Mom gave and they were trying to sue her for $$$$. What they didn't know is that my Mom lives with my sister and since she has her own insurance and no real assets to speak of, there really was no $$$ to get. Turns out they were from the city (about 1 hour away). Smelled of a set-up to us! The creep still got $5K from the insurance company though.

I know you have a lot of issues with replacing the car, paying the deductible, etc.; but you also know it could have been alot worse. You are save! And, you won't have to worry about the other car trying to gouge you and your insurance for everything you own!

First-- I am so sorry about your accident. VERY glad you didn't break anything...how very, very odd that the people left the scene. You are absolutely right about them either being drunk or illegal or criminal. Someone who definitely did NOT want to see a police officer. Who else would have left the scene of such a serious accident when it wasn't even their fault? Hope you don't find yourself in more pain today..

Nenner - sorry for the accident - how scary! Did they find pieces of what you hit? You would think there might be something there to let them know what was stopped in the road. They wouldn't have driven away if they weren't doing something they shouldn't have. Thanks for the Mickey splash picks - that looks like a nice area for the younger set. I think my 6 year old will like it - unless there are 50 babies sitting there - LOL! He likes "splash" areas and still won't dunk his head under the water.

Glad you're okay! It seems our bad luck is spreading.

And then the storm on the horizon.

Any word on the deployed dh's due back? We talked about dh trying to get leave now, for the trip, but decided the stress would be too much, and seeing how we're the family of bad luck, he'd miss it.

Alex is just waking up now, the other kids are at the neighbors (they were talking about admitting him when I talked to the MD on the phone last evening), so off to check the baby.

Oh- we're also on the 9/12 next year. Kids don't know. We're going to surprise them.
