Hey it's Monday! Time for a new Question of the Week Since there are some people who love DCL who are not otherwise Disney fanatics:rolleyes: and not everyone has sailed on DCL before here is one to get to know each other better which isn't even Disney related (but don't get too used to that!):

What is the last music (CD, download, etc.) you got for yourself and what do you hope to get next?

Have at is an let me virtually browse through your CD collection please! Umm, Kimberly and Erica if Wicked is not your answer to either of those then I do not promise Erik will refrain from throwing you overboard:rotfl2:

Our (admittedly long winded--sorry) answers:

Me(Hadley): I recently finally got Speaking in Tounges by the Talking Heads on CD (There are a lot of things I used to have on cassett:scared: which I just replace as they come available used). I need to buy Melissa Etheridge's newest album (The Awakwening)

Dave: Most recently on CD New Order's Substance and downlaoded the song "Shirt Skirt Long Jacket" by Cake. Up next he'll probably download "The Party" by Flaming Lips.

Marika: Somehow we managed to not have any music in the Easter baskets this year (highly unusual) so her most recent acqusitions were at Christmas/birthday. She got The soundtrack to Hairspray (movie) and also to The Little Mermaid There are two things she really wants: a best of Buddy Holly CD and also Kenny Chesney's No Shoes Nor Shirt No Problems.

Rio got the Wicked and Grease (movie) soundtracks as well as All the Right Reasons by Nickelback for the holidays. He wants Ultimate Santana, Stray Cats self titled album and the Soundtrack to Caberet.

Check this out. I found it on ebay this evening. The seller has generic Disney ones as well. She did a great job with both of them.

Check out the "surprise" on the auction site:

I just have to say "oh how very adorable"

What is the last music (CD, download, etc.) you got for yourself and what do you hope to get next?

The last music that I got was the 7 new tracks by my favorite musician (and friend) Levi Kreis that will be on his new album slated for release later this year. He just finished recording them and they are not available to the public (since the album is still being finalized) but he sent me the 7 tracks that are finished so that I can hear them....and they're amazing.

Jason doesn't really listen to music that much....however, we did just recently buy online at iTunes the audio-book of Wicked (becuase he's never read the book despite having seen the show several times) and we are listening to that together now. Jason wanted to know the book before we see Wicked again (starting in Mid-May...HOORAY!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: ). The book and the play are VASTLY different....but he knew that I loved the book when I read it years ago, too....and so he wanted to "see the show through a different lens" and so we're listening to the book.

Happy Monday everyone!!

Hello - It's a very small world!

Yes, I work in East Windsor at Conair. Where did you work?

Crissi

Hey Crissi - I use to work for the Association of Schools and Agencies for the Handicapped (that was before the word was declared "politically incorrect" - so it has been a while). It was a small non-profit organization that helped schools, parents and teachers who dealt with children and their special needs. It was a lot of fun. When I go back now that whole area is really built up. My best friend used to live in Cranbury. We had a super busy weekend so I am catching up on the reading. Abby and I ran into Animal Kingdom yesterday and rode the Kilimanjaro Safari. My favorite ride! We left right after that. I really love living here. We can run in and run out, but it was difficult to leave. :)

Happy Monday everyone!!

Erik--I am glad you posted about the book. I have been debating rather to read it or not (I did know it is very different from the show) as it as gotten very mixed reviews. I'll give it a try on your recomendation:) But it probably won't be until AFTER Peter Pan closes:rolleyes1

I personally LOVE the book....and I think actually that it has gotten almost exclusively fantastic literary critic reviews.......the general public, however, I can certainly see having a more mixed response. It is very adult themed and very political in nature.....so if you read it hoping for a nice MGM technicolor Wizard of Oz kind of read, then you're probably in for a shock....or if you read it and all of the complex political themes register with you...and they are not in line with your own political views...then you might not really like the book either. I will say that the politics of the book are very transgressive (very feminist...lots of LGBT theming....animal rights...questioning authority...revolution....etc. etc.) and so Jason and I think it's brilliant! :lmao: :lmao: But I know that's not for everyone in the world!

I think you'll like the book, Hadley....maybe if you read it before we get to the world in Sept. then you and I will have yet another fascinating topic to talk about and analyze all the great political themes.

That said, it is VERY different from the show. The show doesn't even necessarily follow some of the major plot points of the book....but just draws on some of the important themes and then retells the story. (For instance the show is clearly about Elphaba and Galinda/Glinda---they are the stars. In the book Glinda is more of a supporting character and almost a bit part.) BUT.....even though the show kind of completely rewrites the book...it does it well and both are fantastic! :)

(Where is the WICKED thread?! I feel bad monopolizing this one and turning it into the Wicked talking group! hehehe)

Hadley, my last CD was probably New Order's Substance, too... Small world! I rarely buy or listen to music, but I got that one in the past year to listen to again. Probably got Info Soc's remix before that. And Oingo Boingo before that... :rotfl: No, I promise I'm not raiding their CD racks!

Fiona: The Princess CDs at Costco. She'll only listen to Aurora singing, though. I like Ariel's songs, but they aren't allowed.

Huber: There is nooooo telling. He listens to weird stuff. He really loves Eddie Murphy's stand-up... And Bill Engval, because he recognizes himself... and his wife and daughter. :scared1:

Hadley, I know we discussed malaria in the last thread, and I posted the CDC map excluding Costa Maya from their malarial worries. With the specific species of mosquitoes being nocturnal, we should be fine. I know I said it before, but there's no way I want to take anti-malarial meds again in my life.

:lmao: Too funny.

I THOUGHT we discussed the CDC watch list change, etc. but sometimes I think about posting and then don't and then I am not sure IF I really did or not--and I was far too lazy to do a search through the thread:rolleyes1

SO, do you have a place to stay when they boot you off that ship in a couple of weeks?;)

Ok, I confess......it is not Wicked. :duck:
HOWEVER, I did go and listen to the snippets they had on iTunes and it sounded great!

The last SONG I downloaded, for sure, was Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, because it is one of my favorites to sing AND to drum on Rock Band. The last album I downloaded, as far as I can recall, was Confessions on a Dance Floor by Madonna. Other than that, people give me music or I listen to talk radio :rolleyes1

I need to get back to iTunes, that is so sad!

Should be a quiet posting week for me, the family is visiting from CT so we will be out at Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Aquatica. Oh, and outlet shopping. We have a whole day set aside for that. Eeek!

Talking about forgetting if you told someone something or not... I thought I had emailed you. So All Star Movies for the first night, Beach Club (via Expedia, which was MUCH cheaper) for the 2nd (and last) night, which will also be Mother's Day. I'm thinking of dragging DH to Beaches and Cream on the Boardwalk for my Mother's Day present. He liked your ideas, so thank you very much! It really helped to have you kick me out of my brain freeze. No park tickets, just lazing around the resorts. :thumbsup2

Thanks again for all the great ideas!

Oh oh oh!!! I almost forgot... I successfully hemmed DH's Tux pants, and didn't use thread! Woohoo!!! I love the no sew hem stuff on a roll! Now hopefully I did it -right-, but worst case I just iron it again and stick it back together!

Most recent music purchases:

Me: A re-buy of Tracy Chapman's first album (my old CD finally bit the dust)

DH Harold: something by the White Stripes

Dexter: Not a purchase, but his most recent CD is a compilation he asked me to burn him from my iTunes of all his favorite U2 songs - he titled it "Dexter's Rock Out U2 CD". :rotfl: Vertigo, Elevation, Bullet the Blue Sky, God Part II, Beautiful Day, that sort of thing. Oh, and his very-very-very favorite song, Desire.

Celeste: "Annie" soundtrack

I think this is an excellent review. :thumbsup2 I appreciated the book as a work of literature and thought most of it was very well-written. But while I liked the book and would recommend it, it didn't resonate with me as it does with some because the political views are vastly different from my own.

Answer to this weeks question:

Myself: The last CD that I bought was Panic At The Disco, I don't buy them very often................

DH: Loves all kinds of music, but really only listens to Sirius Satellite Radio, and it is usually talk radio (Hower Stern......:rolleyes1 )

DD: The last CD's she got were for christmas and they were the Hairspary soundtrack and the Jonas Brothers. She wants Rascall Flatts for her birthday in June.

DS: I just bought him Alvin and the Chipmunks soundtrack and will be buying the cars soundtrack next for his 3rd birthday on the 26th.

Well, I guess DM's not going to post. She sent me an email with her answer. :) Her favorite is Minnie Mouse.

Happy Monday!

Question of the week:

Me: I downloaded Seasons of Love from Rent soundtrace, I plan to add somemore to my Ipod tonight!

Dh: NEVER busy music, if I am not in the car he listens to Sports Radio

Rachel: Hannah Montana OF COURSE

Matthew: Not a big fan of his own CD's, will listen to stuff Rachel and I listen too!

Not Wicked, but in 2 weeks, I am going to see Young Frankenstein on Broadway. My SIL plans a trip every year, last year we saw Avenue Q, which was AWESOME and SO funny! Its a nice girls day, NO KIDS and lots to eat and drink;)

Quick payoff question: is there ANY reason NOT to pay off my cruise TODAY?

Thanks

Quick payoff question: is there ANY reason NOT to pay off my cruise TODAY?

Thanks

My understanding is that the deposit is 100% refundable 75 days out.
Castaway Club members can start to book excursions and Palo 90 days out but once paid in full.

Depending on the Trip insurance you get some have requirements to buy the insurance within 24 hours after final payment is made to qualify for pre-existing condition exemption.

My plan for what it is worth.

Pay 91 Days out. I believe there is some odd timing thing when Disney processes payments and allows you to start booking excursions.
Then After paying the full depsoit I am purchasing Trip Insurance via www.insuremytrip.com and select the CSA FreestyleLuxe package. This ones gives pre-existing condition waiver if bought within 24 hours of final payment.

So I believe my statements are accurate for the logistics. It is up to each individual how they care to handle money management of course.

Hope my plan helps. Works for me. Always looking for tips though.

Thanks Julie, Hadley, Heather for the coments on the ruins, I will definitely think about how we are going to do that. I don't really do heat well myself, so maybe I will forgo that one too...

And thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and hugs! Things went very well today. Though Sarah is still mildly anemic she is still to the lower end of the range and I will not need the amnio or the transfusion...this week. They will watch very closely every week and the goal is to get to 37 weeks when they will just deliver her. They say she has a ton of hair, I did not see that but I did see her chillin out blinking her eyes and sucking on her hand. Too cool!

As far as music:
The last physical CD bought in this house was Dave Matthews Band Live in Piedmont Park.
Jen: My last download was "I'm Yours"(new version) by Jason Mraz.
Ron: Though, Like Arin's DH he mostly also listens to Howard Stern and Bubba on Sirius his last download was the new Jack Johnson CD "Static and Silence"
Brendan:His last would have to be "Leave It All To Me" by Miranda Cosgrove (Theme song from iCarly)
Savannnah: "The Sweet Escape" by Gwen Stefani (woooooo-hew-woooooo-hoo!)

I hope this questions is not too personal...

how much spending money is everyone bringing? Obviously we dont know exactly how much is needed, Anyone with crusing experience care to share their thougths and budget?

Thanks

On all my past cruises I (we) have taken about $50.00 per person for general spending. Money for coffee and light snack Sat. morn at the airport, lunch the following Sat. at the Orlando Airport, & money for something to drink at the ports. One year I brought money for stamps at Castaway Cay, but unfortunately it took two months for my post cards to reach the people I sent them to. Now I buy my stamps before I leave and sent them from the ship. I (we)also take about $90.00 in cash per person for gratuities that I seperate and put in a seperate envelope for each crew member (dining room team & host/hostess) before I leave home. Since the service has been so excellent in the past I (we) give more than what the cruise line suggests. Everything else I use my credit card and have a heart attack when the bill comes in.
