Because you folks here are so knowledgable I thought I would ask if anyone has heard of double buckeling in car seat belts? I know folks who do it all the time when they have more kids than seat belts. They put two kids in the same seat belt. I feels this is dangerous but I'm having trouble articulating why. I know as an ER nurse I saw devastating injuries when a little boy was buckeled in with his mother and they crashed. Her weight against him almost killed him. My friend says with kids about the same size its okay. Any thoughts? I worry the solution to not enough seat belts may be worse than no seat belt.

It is not safe. There is no way the belt would lie properly on the body of either person.

If it was safe to do this the auto companies would just have one long belt to buckle everybody together in the back seat, instead of individual buckles.

Definately not safe. I have only done it in emergencies, like having to pick up one extra kid at school that I don't usually get (their mom had an emergency). I don't like to do it. After seeing my 5yo sons classmate die in a wreck two weeks ago, I just put my dd7 back into a booster. Mine will stay in boosters until they are big enough to safely wear a car belt.
