I have noticed that at the concierge in the Disney resorts the CMS always seem to be in the kitchen, or just away from the guests. I know this is typical for the resorts at WDW but why? We have frequently stayed at other (non-Disney) hotels and there is far more interaction between the staff and the guests. I am definitely not someone who likes, or wants, a lot of attention form the CMS, but it would be rather nice not having to knock (or sometimes even slam) multiple times on the kitchen door to get ice or mineral water. I finally caught on and created my own little stock pile of water to avoid the possibility of breaking down the door.

Don't get me wrong I do love staying at the concierge at WDW, and I had a wonderful time during my last visit, but I just wonder why the CMS don't (or not allowed) to have much interaction. We did have a pleasant experience with a cm, he told us a lot of little unknown facts about WDW (sadly he left two days in to our stay, to work at a different concierge at a non-Disney hotel), and I am sure other CMS have the same interesting information, and others would be hear about it.

I have noticed the lounge area CMs at BC were always invisible. You had to seek them out to ask for something that might be missing from the lounge area. I'm not sure if they have a more unobtrusive policy or whether they are simply busy in the kitchen.

I've never noticed the lounge area CMs at Polynesian being confined to the kitchen. During the specific service hours, they are really hopping there--cleaning tables, wiping counters, refilling items, checking the ice in the drink cooler, etc. Now, they aren't flitting about during the non-service times (specifically between a.m. and afternoon service) but there's always someone about if you need something. Further, the drinks are always fully stocked for the taking.

The lounge CMs are typically very friendly when spoken to although other than an "Aloha", they do not initiate lengthy conversations. Some people do not want to be disturbed and I believe they respect the privacy of their guests. If engaged in conversation, they gladly converse--otherwise they maintain a friendly distance.

We enjoy the interaction with the CMs, I'm sure other people don't. I guess they walk a fine line trying to decide which type the guest might be.

I liked at the Poly how all the drinks were out and available, but at the YC and BC, you had to stand at a window and wait for someone to see you.

At the GF we practically had to beg to get anything from the CM's. At the BW and AKL they were very gracious and attentive.

We found the same thing at yc! maybe cause it takes a while and people give up waiting for that coke, or water they save a little! I felt like I was asking my mom for a pop!:(

It appears, from all your responses, that most of the concierges like to keep the drinks from the guests. Except the Poly. I wonder why they chose to display the drinks there?

Because the Poly is so adept at hospitality. Aloha!!

So let me get this straight, all of the other hotels are mean on purpose?

I guess they should all take lessons from the Poly!

We've done both AKL and Poly. We were told, at AKL, that they thought is was tacky to have the water, etc. in bottles in the middle of the lounge. When our son requested soda, they served it in a glass, he wanted the can. They had no problem refilling it, but preferred the look of the glass in the lounge. I liked the accessiblity of the Poly. If I'm running to a park, I want quick and easy access to the amentities that I paid for...

You are right the look of the cans is not attractive. But when it gets to the point that you are forced to beg for liquid that is a but much. I wish they could place the drinks in some sort of an alcove.

I never have a problem at the YC concierge. the cm's are always out at the desks, if you need something they are easily accesible at the desk! I know they are not always out in the lounge, but they are always within easy reach.

the difference between the Poly and YC, is that the way the lounge is set up at the Poly.,, if the cm's werent out there, it would look like a total mess. it's more like cafeteria style with all those tables, people are not very careful about leaving messes!

that's one reason I like the YC better, the lounge is more quiet and formal, one thing I like about concierge, the luxury, not crowded and cm's having to be cleaning all the time.

Laura :)

14 days til WDW!!! yipeeeeeeeeeeee :) :) :)

The Poly lounge is much bigger than the YC, so they can hold more things and not look stuffed and tacky. The poly has a more playful look to it, whilw the YC is more upscale. I didn't ever want to stay in the YC and eat, but it was nice to eat in the Poly's.
