I'm leaving for college this Saturday (Northeastern starts late) and I am soooo crazy about having everything matching. I'm a art nerd :) (art major actually) and I'm obsessive about making my room look pretty. My comforter is baby blue and a light turquoise with white flowers, and my desk set is silver wire, and the wire twists into the shapes of flowers. Everything is either baby blue and the TV, computer, and everything else is silver.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to decorate? You know, how I should display things or extra stuff I can buy. The rolling carts with 5 draws that are see through...I already sponge painted that with all the blues in my comforter, and I did the same thing to my bullitan board. I bought scrapbook paper that matches my comforter and started making boarders for some of my pictures with accenting ribbons.

Any other ideas? I just moved my boyfriend in, and his plain room drove me nuts! I know the other kids will be like that, but I love being creative and having everything match.

Thanks, thats actually where I got my comforter :) I'm looking for a more personal touch though, something I can make, ideas on how I can hang pictures. Bed Bath and Beyond, along with Linnens and Things, has NOTHING left now that everyone else has gone to college already. Thank goodness I did my basic shopping in July!!!

I'm also a bit girlier than those basic dark red and blue stuff.

I was looking for hints for decorating my apartment because I can never seem to get it homey feeling!! I am awful at this stuff.... I can clean though but it never feels personal! I found this site and thought it might help!!http://rentaldecorating.com/dormdos.htm

Good Luck

Evilprincess, check out Digs Magazine. Their forums and articles have a wealth of great information on decorating -- especially in dorms and on a budget!! Check the Lounge section of the website and in the forums.

Here is a great thread on Dorm Decor, andhere is another one on dorm essentials.

As for me, the best thing I had was fabric on my walls. I used self-stick velcro to get it up there (we had cinderblock walls, so it was just about impossible to nail things in!), and sewed velcro to the back of the sheets so that I could wash them. It added a lot of warmth and color to the room, which was nice. Also, if you can loft your bed and put your desk underneath it -- do it! It frees up a ton of room.
