GFS model has it hitting closer to Jacksonville and FL/GA border

Not gonna lie, I love this time of year (I wanted to be a hurricane hunter so bad when I went to college), I can nerd out on this all day

If it is a tropical storm flights may be delayed. Last year flying out of MCO there was lightning in the area, flight was delayed. Then we got all clear, was loaded on plane and sat on runway for 45 minutes! If already in air, there usually isn't a problem.

I'm hoping that it stays weak and doesn't strengthen at all. We leave on Friday and arrive Saturday, (we're driving) and hit MK on Monday morning. I'm ok with some rain and wind, I just don't want us to have to deal with a Hurricane while we are there. I'm praying it weakens and/or turns sharply north and continues without hitting any land! Happy travels to all heading to WDW in the next few days!

Uggghh. Now it looks like my flight will beat it but I’m not sure I want to be there during a hurricane.

My local weather team just updated to say it should reach Cat 3 or major hurricane status. Should know more on track tomorrow.

Here is the 11am update fromNHC:
430312

ETA: NHC had to correct the graphic. Expected to be Cat 3 at landfall.

The most likely path for it to take will be side swiping the Florida East coast a bit north of Orlando. But they do take hard turns sometimes so you never know.

I doubt Orlando will take a hit direct, but it's gonna be ugly with a lot of rain and feeder bands bringing gusty winds all day.

Being a native of south Florida, predicting hurricanes and TS have become almost a sport to us down here.

I've lived in this cone of death long enough to realize most of what you hear on the news is highly over blown and rarely very accurate. I used to live right in downtown Ft Lauderdale and would get a kick out of watching the news vans set up to find the perfect shot of wind blowing.

I have a friend at WDW right now. While there she does not watch TV news or look at it on her phone etc.... She asked me to give her occasional updates. I rely on NOAA/National Hurricane Center for realistic updates & predictions and not The Weather Channel etc... who often over dramatize for ratings. Of course it is still weather and not 100% predictable.

Also would like to add tropicaltidbits.com

Tomorrow we should get a clearer path. The GFS and Euro model are still widely disagreeing. We'll see if they start getting closer to each other

it will still be a couple of days before we know for sure. Some airlines are allowing flight changes though.

Can we edit the title of the post? Since it's on the verge of being a hurricane now and well past Tropical Depression

My friend also recommended Mike's Weather Page on Facebook. He is a Florida resident and weather nerd. She won't look at in while on vacation but she sure checks during the days before her trip!

I wish i still felt this way, but I can’t stand it. We lost our home to hurricane Ivan in ‘04 and weren’t able to talk to my father for days after Katrina in ‘05. We didn’t know if he was alive (tugboat capt.) I have horrible memories as a child of days of Florida heat without electricity from Erin and Opal. To be honest I can’t wait to move and leave this anxiety and stress behind.

oh don't get me wrong, I wish none of these hit anywhere. I could track these like this and them just turn out to sea, that'd be perfect. Don't want to make it sound like I want them to come and hit. I'm just amazed by them in general

I'm with you and I am from New Orleans. Been through many a storm, including Katrina.

I find hurricanes fascinating and while the aftermath truly sucks if you get hit, I do feel the thrill of anticipation before they arrive.

Ya, I grew up in FL panhandle, so I've had a few. Hurricane Ivan was our worst. Thankfully I lived 30 miles west of Panama City to just missed Hurricane Michael last year. That was the first one I was truly scared
