Hi Everyone,
How does everyone decorate their door? I have ordered from other places before, but I am really interested in making my own decor. Is it cost effective? I have never done it before, so I do not even have the Disney font. On my last cruise, I seem to recall a board being around with designs, but I am not sure if that is part of what is no longer allowed. Any suggestions, within the rules, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

You can decorate your door. Just be sure to use magnets, as no adhesive products are allowed. There is the Creative DISigns board, http://www.disboards.com/forums/creative-disigns.105/ where you can search around to find pictures to print out on you own. Also a couple of posters here on the cruise forum who do them. Here's one of them: http://www.disboards.com/threads/ladyb-cruise-magnets-open-please-read-post-1.3322275/

I used the printouts on "Mickey Stateroom Ears - And Then Some" thread, I printed out a couple, let the kids choose their favourite (Cheshire Cat), then I laminated it and stuck magnetic tape on the back. I think the magnetic tape was about £4 on Amazon including delivery and it will last a long time. I will definitely do more next year!

I actually found the thread via a YouTube clip rather than on here, I liked the lady on there, the link is here:

After researching and getting feedback here, I am just going to do it on card stock. My crazy craft lady mom has a Cricut that will cut the images for me, laminate if I choose, and then glue some magnets on them. Not worth too much effort after seeing videos of people stealing them and reading the thread on people stealing them.

I would not waste too much time and money on them as well. We had a big mickey head with our last name and then smaller mickey and minnie heads with our first names on them and the first night all of our first name heads (the ones we spent more money on off of etsy of course) disappeared. It was such a disappointment. :guilty: We were staying with 5 other families with the same magnets and ours were the only ones that disappeared. Don't put anything out there that will bother you if someone takes it.

Last time I printed out our fave characters on thin card stock, laminated them and then put magnet tape on back. Easy peasy. Most annoying part was cutting them out after laminating them.

Just off our recent cruise on the Wonder to Alaska, not too many people decorated their doors. A real low turn out for the FE as well. We participated in both and had a great time. No one disturbed our door magnets. However, I do want to caution anyone here, the magnet tape that we used to stick our laminated card stock cutouts didn't work very well. For one, the magnets really need to be hot glued as the adhesive isn't very good and you really need a lot of them as they aren't that strong to stick to the door. Maybe, too many layers of paint? I'm not sure. When we let the door close on its own, some of the appliques would fall off. As a side note, our stateroom was not near a high traffic area like near elevators nor were we on the upper decks, deck 2 midship. Mainly, I would download an image of the highest resolution possible, clean them up with PhotoShop and my wife would use her Cricut to cut them out and them apply lamination. Pretty simple.

It's quite possible the magnets were too heavy for the number of coats of paint on the Wonder doors. She's way overdue for her dry dock. Hopefully, that will be fixed.

I find just printing on photo paper and applying the photo directly to a magnetic sheet (so as to cover the entire back of the magnet) works best. With no lamination, it's a little lighter and the larger magnetic field helps to keep them on the door. The only magnets I've had problems coming off the door when it shuts were the smaller ones, less than 3" diameter.

I ordered a really cute Mickey head with our anniversary date and names from Esty. Then I read people were taking them off the doors, I want to keep mine so I probably won't put it on the door!

You could put it on the inside of your door. Next suggestion - take a picture of it and put the picture on a magnetic back to put on the outside of the door.

GREAT idea! That's what I'll do! It's a really neat magnet and I'd hate to "lose" it.

We were on the Dream about 4 years ago and I didn't have any issues. I may have used a glue gun to secure the magnet tape on back but I don't remember for sure. We def didn't have any problems with them falling off the door. That could have been a few coats of paint ago I suppose.
