Not as much as I hate it when I'm on leave, and everybody knows it, and they call 7 times in a single day to ask me about a situation that they can handle without me... And I'm up on a rooftop installing a skylight, and it's all I can do to NOT shout into the phone "I don't care!!!!" Man, I DON'T miss that job!

Thanks- I'm still bitter, but that's ok. At least I'll get time-and-a-half.... but that also means I'll get more taxes taken out, which means will I REALLY get time-and-a-half? Probably not
At least you get time and a half. Trying being "exempt" and never really having a day off because you have to be "on call" in case of an emergency. Being required to check emails & voice mails while on vacation, etc.
This is when I say "Oh wow, because you said I'd have the time off, I already made plans and have non-refundable XYZ....so sorry."
One of my favorite sayings is "poor planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part" and the above is just a nicer, work-related way to say it.

That normally works, but when tomorrow you are trying to feed your family when you are unemployed since you are insubordinate by not coming into work when they tell you to, it would probably develop into an emergency on your part....

I understand that might be the case for some people. But it's not for me. I believe in the same kind of planning that I expect from them and therefore I have an "emergency" fund. And, honestly, I think the possibility of an employer firing someone for not coming in on a day the employee was told they'd have off is very slim. I'm not talking about being "on call," or "possibly available," but when the person was told they'd have the day off and made other plans.
Everyone is so willing to fall back on the "be thankful you have any job" line these days that we keeping giving these little steps back until the point that we'll be willing to work in horrible conditions... "just to have any job."
