Don't worry . . . DVC and Disney will be open this summer

So, to be the Debbie Downer of the thread, the Ohio governor said we will not be back to "normal" for 18 months. Some businesses may reopen in May, but for most the stay home orders will hold. We were also told schools may not be going back in the fall either. Cedar Fair already made passes bought for this year good for next year as well. They anticipate they may not be able to open this summer.

So my July cruise and wdw trip I'm sure will be a no go. I'm happy to be healthy and have a healthy family, but I'm really grieving over losing my "normal" life.

I think your governor is wrong. The US attorney general has announced he will start suing governors who continue lockdowns. Most southern states are starting to open already and have had weaker lockdowns anyway. The death rates are turning out to be much less than the flu, and the entire point of the lockdown anyway was to spread out cases for hospitals. They’ve done that and it turns out there will be many less cases needing hospitalization than originally thought anyway.

And this is why the usa is going to have this virus so much longer than the rest of the world...take the time and the large pain and struggle now..and we will all be safer later.
We will not visit usa for at least a year. I will lose my dvc money before I will lose my families health.
So please explain Sweden then......they have no restrictions and left social distancing to the people to decide, rather than the government to demand. They are doing great!

Serious question here - why no fireworks? We could all totally social distance and mask up to enjoy the show. I would even be 100% down for resort/DS only trip if there would be fireworks (not being real subtle about my favorite part of Disney, eh?).

I’m curious how they are going to limit the amount of visitors? If they reduce daily capacity by a lot, are people going to have to show up hours before park open to get a chance at admission? If I bought tickets ahead of time and couldn’t use them based on reduced capacity, I would be fuming.
And that is where they turn into a resort only theme park.......no reservation at a resort/no ticket or admission

Because people don't listen. Have you seen the news? If people would just listen it wouldn't be an issue but here we are people begging to go out and get there hair cut and not wear any ppe.

I live in Ohio and it is ridiculous. School will start in the Fall. Our unemployment will be bankrupt at the beginning of June. He is just trying to be the "hero" the media has made him out to be but once we start loosening up, it will just steam roll.

Ummmm.....some people in Sweden are not following either. The point was that it was left to the people and it still turned out fine!
Please stop watching FOX. Look at Sweden now. They have admitted they handled it wrong. There rates are some of the highest now in Europe. And they have not peaked yet.

By mid-March, and with wide community spread, Löfven was forced to take a more active role. Since then, the government has been playing catch-up. From March 29, it prohibited public gatherings of more than 50 people, down from 500, and added sanctions for noncompliance. Then, from April 1, it barred visits to nursing homes, after it had become clear that the virus had hit around half of Stockholm’s facilities for the elderly.
Sweden’s approach turned out to be misguided for at least three reasons. However virtuous Swedes may be, there will always be free riders in any society, and when it comes to a highly contagious disease, it doesn’t take many to cause major harm. Moreover, Swedish authorities only gradually became aware of the possibility of asymptomatic transmission, and that infected individuals are most contagious before they start showing symptoms.

So lets keep up on the research

I've never watched or read Fox once in my life. So roll up your jump to conclusions map! As of yesterday their hospitals are running at 80%. The point of stay at home is to lessen the strain on the hospitals. It is not to wait out the virus. The virus is here and it will not go away. You will come in contact with it at some point.

Why not just Disney hotel guests and pass holders that already have one for the time being. All those guests would have paid a premium as they are staying on property and probably would cut down crowds. Maybe not in half. But a sizable portion I would think.

Not just the hospitals, but to reduce the infection rate as a whole. And believe me I am not a 1st responder, I am the last responder. We are half staffed and deaths are up over 20% so this is not something I like seeing. Our morgues cant handle the volume. My fellow funeral directors cant handle the pace, nor do we want to. Please dont rush into "getting back to normal". Disney will be there for another 50 years. Lets make sure we enjoy it when we are all safe.

Love when people say stop watching Fox News. Hahah. U get the same type of news for liberals on msnbc and cnn. They are all just opinion news. People use that as put down. So funny and sad actually

What are you afraid of? A virus that has a death rate lower than the flu? And we have a vaccine for the flu! Come on. Take your head out of the sand and look at the numbers.

Everyone have a mandatory ticket date. Maybe close the gap on the current system. Have a site wide cap. This way you won't be limited to which park. If you use a AP you sign up and see if there is space for the day. This can all be worked out only issue is will it be worth it to Disney to open with the reduced numbers.

Huh? I just said people are not listening to the stay away and use masks. Nothing about death rates and such. My husband is a store pharmacist and has been in contact with people positive for covid. These people had no symptoms and never did get any. Altho people around them did and became very sick. So don't lecture to me. My family is at risk everyday so people can have medicine. Why would you risk that if you can stay home till we get more information ?.

Look at the death rates. Lower than the flu. You can’t lock down an entire country indefinitely for a virus that does so little damage and targets people who are 75+. 7 people have died in our county of 600,000. 6 were over 80!!! This virus isn’t targeting children. We know where the weak link is. Those people stay home. March deaths overall were down from last year. So your hospital may be an outlier, but most hospitals are empty.

Wow....I hope for your and your country sake it stays that way

I agree. Where we live most people haven’t been listening since day one, so we can stop the lockdown pretense. And they haven’t been listening in Sweden either. Death rates are important. Because this virus isn’t half as deadly as we were told.

This cannot be compared to flu and all comparisons to the flu are misguided. This is an entirely different kind of virus with different impact.

People who get acute cases and survive are looking at permanent lung and heart damage, kidney damage, liver issues. Asymptomatic cases may also have neurological impacts - the people with impacts to smell and taste, that is a sign of neuro impact, and we have no idea the long term effect or even how far it goes beyond that presentation.. Kids keep getting held up as limited impact, but we don't know if there will be changes to growth rate, puberty, neurological development.

Death rates are one impact measure. But not the only one worth looking at, and all of the others are in the category of developing science. And some will take literal years to measure.
