Well, Disney isn't always about Princesses and Ponies. The marching is what Storm Troopers do!
I was totally entertained by their stage show a couple of years ago. They were up there being friendly and cracking jokes. It made me see Storm Troopers in a different light, although without that I agree they're the bad guys.

But as a previous poster pointed out, The Force Awakens shows that they aren't necessarily evil, they only know what they are taught. Finn actually tuns out to be a good guy who questions what the Empire stands for. Kind of like how ST:TNG humanized Klingons.

Disney has always had scary elements. Pirates of the Caribbean is a good example. The villains come out at the Halloween parties too. Truthfully, no matter what bad things Storm Troopers, Darth Vader, and the Galactic empire have done, they're still not as evil as Cruella DeVille!

Right. I mean she makes her clothes out of dog fur. Now THAT is scary! :scared1:

love Disney and like Star Wars just fine...

But at HS and the parade with the storm troopers coming up the street with pounding aggressive music (scary to young ones) seems very militaristic as they march in sync (similar to our enemies)
They are the bad guys right?

What is the attraction to all this??

Don't get it.

And doesn't seem to fit into what Disney is all about.

Am I just missing something?

I take things as seriously as you did and I agree.

I like SW *and* I question why stormtroopers are the only ones that get to have blasters in the parks now. My son liked it better when he got to have his Han Solo blaster (purchased at Disneyland). Or his Boba Fett blaster (also from Disneyland). Or, heck, even his Stromtrooper blaster (guess where he got it?).

In the movies once they were Stormtroopers they were bad guys (and no, one guy, out of allllllll the others, defecting in FA doesn't count as an example).

The 501st people at the SW Half marathon were my fave part of the run, I think they are funny in person, but there's a chord of dissonance to have them marching at the parks.

Really? The hysteria is just getting ridiculous.

What hysteria?

The Storm Troopers are not trying to emulate the Nazi

Um... Maybe a chat with George Lucas could clear that up. Where do you think the name "stormtrooper" came from?

(Side note: the robes of the Jedi look like samurai robes because he was going from that tradition for them. He took a lot of stuff from a lot of places.)

Not saying the minimum wage people in the parade are, but the concept of them certainly is from Nazis.

love Disney and like Sleeping Beauty just fine...

But at MK and the stage show with Maleficent coming on the stage with pounding aggressive music (scary to young ones) seems very satanic as she appears on stage (similar to the devil)
He is the bad guy right?

I agree with you, too. Even though you are not being real.

There's a LOT of scary stuff at Disney. Boggles my kind sometimes! People talk about taking first time little kids to fantasyland at Disneyland first and I really question that. (FL at MK is lighter now, less scary than at DL)

But I was that sensitive kid. My mom had to leave the theater with me during a reshowing of Cinderella when I was little because the stepsisters were so mean and I was sobbing. I was afraid of all characters at Disneyland. I still don't much like them and have to literally be pulled into pictures with them (except for when I waited to see WIRalph to show him my Tower of Terror medal (and he could not have cared less about it)). Only character I liked was Jack sparrow because he's so nastily funny with guests, but then those guests didn't like *a pirate* being like that.

Oh and we routinely have discussions at home when we watch POTC that jack and crew are BAD guys not good. Norrington and Beckett are the good law and order guys even if we don't like them. (DH and DS are in disagreement with me because Jack etc all are so much cooler...yes because "cooler" is more important than not robbing and killing people, thanks hubby!)

I have always been a person to take things seriously and think a LOT about them. Even if I like them. :)

Guess I'm in the minority. And for the people who enjoy it more power to you.

I like villains too and would love to see a parade of them. But faceless group of 10 or 20 or 30 (wonder at what number is the most joyful) just don't see it.
But aren't villains supposed to be the bad guys too? Don't they do bad things (Cruella de Vil?, Ursula?, Maleficent?, etc). Don't they have Club Villain designed to showcase the villains who are supposed to be bad bad people?

I am terrified of Storm Troopers, and I'm plenty old enough to know fantasy from reality. I haven't seen this march, but I will be aware and avoid it next time we are there.

Yes you are. It's very entertaining and fun to watch. And not at all scary or aggressive. It was very funny actually. Have you not noticed just how funny Storm Troopers are with their interactions?

All matters of perspective and opinion. There have been at least a few people in this thread that said they'd rather not see the march for one reason or another.

My DD (7) LOVED the Stormtroopers. She was so tickled by them being out on patrol - she kept telling everyone how safe the area was because of them. And the march was awesome.

Luckily they are on a schedule that is posted. No one is being required to watch it. Beauty of Disney and it's size and diversity. Plenty for everyone, no one is forced to endure things they don't like

Star Wars is a HUGE property that Disney now owns and it's huge fan base wants that and more! I'd expect them to amp up before they tone it down.

Disney is all about the movies, the fantasy, the immersion - these guys are part of that. When they cancelled Star Wars Weekends many were upset, and Disney has tried to insert pieces of it into the park that will be the home to SW in the future.

Not sure why it should freak you out ..... entertainment (which Disney world is) is full of people cheering on the dark side .... it's like Halloween, the ability to step outside your normal life to embrace the forbidden.

But I am totally about if you don't like something, don't support it. Just skip DHS. No reason to stress yourself on vacation.

It was pretty cool when they blasted that kid that tried to run across the street in front of the parade.

I have not seen this parade yet but based on the posts here... I think I will like it. (53 yr old Star Wars fan) :)

I can see that the imagery might be disturbing, and as a lifelong SW fan I'm well aware of the places and times from which Lucas drew inspiration for his villains and heroes, but really? If all you're seeing are Nazis parading through the streets then you're not really familiar with Star Wars at all. Just look to the people who are enjoying the march. For the most part, they're not cheering because they know that the Stormtroopers are the bad guys. Mostly they're being booed or taunted. People get it, that this is part of the show and we get to be in the show. Leave the real world in the parking lot and just enjoy yourself. Play along - it makes the experience of being in the movies that much more fun. Seriously, do these two look scared to you?

oh my - I am a 44 year old woman and not even "into" Star Wars and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED that march! It was a surprise to me as I haven't been to HS in a very long time and it was amazing! Just fascinating. They march every hour and the rest of the day whenever I heard that music I just got so happy for some reason. :)
Me too! I'm your age and not even a huge SW fan, and I LOVED the march! It was exciting to me, and I got chills watching! My husband is a huge fan and wasn't able to take the trip with us, but if I reacted that way towards it, I can't imagine how awesome it must be for SW fans!
